In search of a French film and/or a music personality to shadow and learn the language

A bit of story:

I used to learn English from movies and music. I've been a huge fan of the The Weeknd, and I used to try to sing every song of his word-by-word. Over time, I started pronouncing things the way he does too. I never knew that I was learning English while all of this, but I did. Now, I speak it fluently like a native, to the point where I have been asked multiple times if I was born in the country that I was living in, which is an English-speaking country. I was always confused about how I had the accent, which I never practiced or tried to learn. But I've been doing that without even knowing for years.

Why that story is relevant to me now:

Now that I'm learning French, I want to do the exact same thing. I want to sing French songs, repeat French lines from movies and shows, etc. I'm in search of charismatic and interesting personalities in the French entertainment and art scene. I love good cinema and great R&B music from any time period. Old or new. I want to find some artists and filmmakers and actors that I can follow along and learn this beautiful language the way I learned English!

Looking for jobs and fields that I can self-learn and pivot to

*apologies if you already saw this in a different subreddit.*

Took a bit of courage and getting over embarrassment to write this. I graduated with a design degree few months agoand i have experience in 3D animation before that so I can do a couple of things like design, motion graphics, anything with cameras and etc. also learned basics of front end development in college.

But because of the way things are right now and because of how bleak and uncertain the future is, I've been thinking about pivoting to tech or any other field. something that I can self-learn for a year or a year and a half. not particularly fascinated about trades and also can't go to college in any realm of possibility due to being broke.

When I first thought of it, the first thing that came to my mind was to become a full-stack developer because we did learn a lot of front-end development in college even though the program was more design focused. But as I started researching, all I saw was how people who went to college and universities to become a full-stack developer were not finding any jobs. As with the case with many other tech fields. I found out that not a lot of people are hiring juniors in the current market. That killed any of my remaining hopes I had, because why would anybody hire a self-taught junior, while there are people who actually went to college for that?

So yeah, I feel like I hit the dead end again and don't know what to do. which way to go. how to approach this incomprehensible maze of life. And being a 25-year-old, I feel stupid because the world says that I have plenty of time, but somehow, I feel like I'm running out of it.

Focusing issues in The Odyssey, could it be because how huge the cameras are?

Had a fantastic experience at an IMAX GT show yesterday. Movie itself was great and it looked amazing too.

Only thing I found a bit jarring is how there were a lot of scenes when the actor who was speaking is not at all in focus. They were switching back and forth between actors during conversations and sometimes, the character who is speaking is not at all in focus. Idk if it’s just me or if anyone else felt the same.

Could it be because of how huge the cameras are and the difficulties in placing the actors around it and focal length issues? Or could it be that the cost of a retake is too high due to how expensive the 65mm stock is and they just okayed those shots despite the actors being not in focus?

Not bashing the film, just curious!

How do I track this shot in Syntheyes and then take it to blender?

I've been following tutorials where they explain how to track on syntheyes and then export to blender.

The process goes like track, solve till a low error, then ground plane coordinates and then export. Things seem to work okayish until I try to place the ground plane and things fall apart. The grid ends up wonky and rotated in all kinds of directions and I don't have enough expertise to fix it. Anyone can guide me through steps of how I can track properly?

Thank you

Are these lights always on?

Was watching Masters of Universe yesterday at yonge and dundas and these were on throughout the show.

While these didn’t really bother me that much yesterday because the movie wasn’t that serious in the first place, I had a similar experience while watching Top Gun Maverick in 4dx at the same theater. Even though that was a phenomenal experience, the only thing that kinda annoyed me is these lights that were on the whole time and it was really hard to feel the immersion.

I would love to know what’s up with these lights.

I hope one day, keeravani releases Magadheera OST on streaming platforms

I love Magadheera soundtrack so much. I always believed that Rajamouli and Keeravani’s work go hand in hand and neither of them can exist without each other.

They both fit each other so well that I can barely imagine anyone that can score Rajamouli’s movie or bring out that facet of music from keeravani’s within.

When Keeravani got his Oscar for RRR, I was absolutely proud, but also chuckled. Because what I felt as a 9 year old watching Magadheera with the sonically and atmospherically huge background score that plays during the royal scenes, the racy soundtrack when the hero gets on to the horse in the middle of the road and especially the female solo track that goes like “Dheeraa…..” during the end of the 100soldier fight when the hero is almost dead, could never be replicated. I didn’t know anything about awards but my 9 year old self gave him the highest of the highest awards to keeravani that day in his head.

Magadheera’s soundtrack is yet another example of Keeravani creating the huge atmosphere and scale sonically, that Rajamouli created visually. He makes it feel grand. Larger than life.

It’s just so fucking good man. So good.

Anyway, I hope one day they release the OST. That would be a blessing.

Got my diploma on the day I was working. Am I in trouble?

Hello everyone. I completed my two year program and a field placement on may 21st. I received an email congratulating and basically confirming that I’m graduating on may 28th. In addition, on may 29th, I got my diploma via email.

It was a prescheduled shift, and so I was working on may 28th and 29th. I was not anticipating that I was going to get my diploma that day. I got paid on the biweekly schedule until may 29th.

I immediately stopped working after that and since I felt that I’m in trouble, I applied for a celpip and wrote it in two days and got my results. I’m going to apply for pgwp in two or three days.

My question is, am I in trouble for working on the day I got my diploma? Do I attach an explanation letter mentioning an honest apology that i wasn’t anticipating to get my diploma during my shift? How do I approach this situation?

Also, what are all the things that I need to make sure if before applying for pgwp? I saw people posting about getting a reduced pgwp due to biometrics expiring and etc. So I just wanted to know what are all the things that I have to take note of before applying for pgwp.

Please help me out! Thank you!

How do I place a 3D object in this untrackable footage?

Hello! I wanted to a very ambitious 3D project where I want to put some sort of a futuristic vehicle coming out on to the tracks where the subway usualy comes out.

The idea is that the vehicle comes and goes as suggested by the camera panning.

Now, I'm very naive and stupid and shot the footage with really heavy motion blur. I tried tracking this in after effects and it just failed at every attempt.

What can I do? How do i approach it? I would really appreciate a breakdown of how to approach this shot.

My uneducated guess for how to do this shot would be:

  1. Manual track in blender (idk how to do this)

  2. Match move the surrounding environment and build it in 3D

  3. Animated the vehicle

  4. Texture, light and render out the vehicle

  5. Render out the shadow and reflection passes on the tunnel and surroundings

  6. Composite it all in after effects

I probably butchered it with a lot of nonsense. Please guide me through this!

Am I doing them right?

Started going to the gym for the first time since a month and a half. This is the most number of pull ups I can do right now. Trying to get better everyday.

But I wanted to know if I’m doing them right because I feel like there’s no point of doing something wrong very well. Please let me know!

Dear Cineplex app UI/UX Designers and Developers...

I used to like the app when I could scroll all the way to the last and see all the movies that are currently playing across all theaters. It was easy to just see what's up and find out what I liked.

Now, I have to press on "show all," which takes me to a screen with all the movies that are playing, including the upcoming ones. advanced tickets, international movies, event cinema, etc. with no option to filter through those categories. It's like a dump of clothes in a thrift store where we have to go through everything to pick what we like.

the older system, while it didn't have any filtering option on the main screen, only showed the movies that were currently playing. I didn't have to scroll past a bunch of upcoming releases that I wasn't really interested in at that moment.

I absolutely understand the need to revamp the design once in a while or the need to opt for a modern and sleek design. But if that decision results in unnecessary cognitive load in the end users during the simplest tasks, I don't think it's a good move.

My suggestion would be to either go back to the old layout OR introduce a filtering option in all movie screens where you can filter through the different categories of movies so that it's much easier to filter and pick what the user likes.

Bonus: My gf and I are design students who are about to graduate soon, and we would love to send in a few sketches, wireframes or anything and chip in some help for shits and giggles. But nonetheless, this post is a genuine concern from me, who often goes to cineplex but has developed some issues with the updates in the app.
