Anyone else feel like the all the food safety outbreaks sound like the 3rd horseman?

It’s been a while since I’ve read revelations but I worked in food safety for a long time and it’s very intentional what they’re doing. The government should care about providing safe food to people. A lot of food safety laws were updated in 2011 and they’re not being enforced. Badly run companies are getting away with murder bc theyre huge trump donors. It’s all so sad.

Seeming inspiration for relaxing behaviors that aren’t being on my phone?

I have pretty high functioning adhd. I’ve gotten a lot of therapy for it and it’s improved a lot. But it takes a lot of brain power and pushing to get everything done. I love being on my phone too much honestly just bc my brain is tired and I wanna be a vegetable. Especially when I’m in stressful seasons of life.

Id like to be on my phone less and would love some positive inspiration for habits to replace it with when your brain is tired.

I do normally walk a lot but it’s a billion degrees rn and my dog is very old so we walk less these days.

New to area - looking for speciality vet.

I’m looking to move to the pine plains area for work. I’ve lived in NY several times but never Hudson valley area. I have an older sick dog who requires speciality vet visits. Does anyone have a specialty vet in the area they love and would recommend?

Thanks!

Update on an old dog and thank you to this sub

About a year ago my 13 year old Bernese mix got bronchitis and it never really went away. We went to fancy vets and got fancy test and nothing really worked. Misdiagnosed with a few things along the way. He had allergies, chronic rhinitis, chronic bronchitis, and a wack-a-mole of side effects from varying meds. We worked with a local vet and a university with a great vet school. It was financially and emotionally exhausting. Old dogs take a lot of time especially when you’re trialing solutions or even just working constantly to make them more comfortable.

After all this, a vet friend recommended I see a new vet she knew and he got diagnosed with GOLPP, a progressive genetic disease. His back legs, airways, and digestive system will slowly paralyze. Timelines varies but my guy is luckily in good shape, all things considered. Probably a few more years but must be carefully managed. I have the means to take him to physical therapy and maybe a few more palliative options. There’s a surgery but I’m not sure he’s a candidate. While it sad to know my baby is towards the end, having answers gives me immense relief. It’s been a hell of a year lol.

During this time, this sub and a few other ones have been immensely helpful. Vets only know much and not all vets are as detailed as others. Don’t get me wrong, vets absolutely were critical to his well being through this and they were all incredibly kind to my nervous boy. I cannot thank them enough. Rural vets can be quite generalized in treatment and that did slow the process a bit despite the fancy university testing. it sometimes takes research and advocating for your pet to get the right diagnosis. But if you’re in the same situation, definitely do research and ask questions. Half the battle is knowing what they don’t have.

Someone here recommended a FB group for his condition and they had great lifestyle tips that have immediately improved his quality of life. His allergies/inflammation were actually acid reflux. For the first time in nearly a year I feel like I can breathe. I’m glad I can keep him comfortable and am ready to make the call when I need. I know not everyone gets this peace when their pets passes so thank you to everyone for your help.

This was Goose in his Prime. He’s traveled all over with me from NYC to Seattle. I’ve had him since I was 20. Our time together has been a blessing.

Helping with temporary diet for dog with bad teeth.

My dog is quite old and has some bad teeth. He had a dental 2 years ago but our previous vet was pretty awful. His teeth are so bad now it affects his sinuses. All that to say, eating is pretty hard for him atm.

We have a dental scheduled in 2 weeks with a new vet. But in the mean time, hes largely stopped eating until it’s just plain meat. He won’t touch canned food or kibble even if I leave it and won’t give him other options. He’s also on meds so I have to make sure he eats every few hours. What additionally can I give him in the meantime to make sure he’s still eating? I want to make sure he’s got good nutrition prior to surgery.

Please be nice about my dogs teeth. His dental issues were misdiagnosed as respiratory issues by the previous vet. It’s been a journey. I’m doing my best.

ISO sublet for July-August

I have mold in my current home and an immune compromised, old dog who’s continuously sick from it. So last minute, I’m looking for a sublet for July and August. I am a working professional in their 30s with good credit. Hoping for somewhere in Athens, comer, or in between.

The dog is generally good health other than these respiratory infections. Hes mobile, alert, and bathroom trained. He’s also always with me and goes to work with me. So he’s never left unattended. Just if he keeps getting sick, I will need to put him down. I’m hoping changing my housing allows him a healthy place to recover.

I know it’s a long shot but figured maybe it didn’t hurt to ask.

Looking for tips to go out with a bang

I have a wonderful old dog whose health has been declining these past few months. He’s still quite mobile and alert but he’s been getting reoccurring infections. I’m starting to have the conversation that maybe at the end of the summer it’s his time to go if he doesn’t improve.

What can I do between now and then that makes things special and good for him? He’s a farm dog but definitely more lethargic these days. Also there’s a massive heat wave where I live this summer. He doesn’t really enjoy cuddling. His weight is good and diet generally isn’t an issue.

Any advice is appreciated!

Won’t let me watch playlists?

There’s a few creators whose playlists I love and watch often. But in recent days, I can’t watch any playlists.

Everything else in the app works fine. But it tells me I’m offline when I go to watch a playlist. My WiFi and data are fine. The app is updated and so is my phone. I restarted my phone. This has been going on a few days and it’s super annoying.

Does anyone know what could be causing this issue?

Dog with dust mite allergies avoids beds

My dog is allergic to dust mites. We recently found out so I’m still learning. I vacuumed everything with a hepa vacuum and put all bedding in dust mite covers. He seems a lot more comfortable but still avoids his beds. He’s always loved his beds til he developed an autoimmune condition that flared his allergies. I even bought him a new bed, put it in a dust mite cover, and keep a crib sheet on top that I wash regularly.

He will lay on my bed with me but won’t lay on his. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Looking for best way to seal these old walls

I live in a gorgeous old loft. I love the patina on these walls but it does leave my house super dusty. Which is annoying and probably unhealthy. Is there a way to seal them and keep the weathered look?

I’ve been researching it and from what I can tell, the seal varies based on the materials. These walls are mixed materials so I’m uncertain what products to use. Separately, it says to remove all dust and loose debris first. I’ve vacuumed areas and it can be a little endless. I don’t want to remove too much before sealing if I don’t have to.

Thanks!

Did I ruin my light strip?

I recently tried to attach a 3ft extension to my 10ft but solo light strip. I ignorantly thought I could just cut on the line and match A to B and use a connector. Turns out it had a 6 pin connector. I connected it with the cut end to cut end connector. It lit up briefly and turned off. Won’t turn back on.

Am I cooked? Is there any saving this strip?

Please recommend your fav episodes

I’ve been a Trueanon listener for about a year or so but am obsessed. I salivate for my week dose. I am chipping away at the back catalog. Not every episode hits just right bc many are current events and listening retroactively just doesn’t quite scratch the itch. I do love the biography and multi part episodes. I have listens to the JFK, 9/11, NATO, and lamest show on earth collections. I would love some recommendations of your favorite past episodes please!!!!

Is anyone else getting embezzlement vibes?

Between the ballroom and the reflecting pool costs skyrocketing and seeing little to no progress on either one, I can’t help but wonder where our tax dollars are going.

The ballroom was supposedly gonna be $400 million in private donations. Separately the senate proposed $1 billion in upgrades to the east wing that includes the ballroom. I’m pretty sure it’s still just rubble?

The Lincoln memorial reflecting pool repairs were supposed to cost $1.8 mil but now it’s gonna cost 7x that. For a fresh coat of poorly done blue paint? It’s not even the same blue.

This is not to mention the BILLIONS the trump family has made in bitcoin or the suspicious large winnings on prediction markets after any big government event or truth social post.

I’m starting to think something’s up! Anyone else getting that vibe??

(Mostly) healthy dog suddenly urinating in the house

I have a 13 year old dog who is suddenly having accidents in the house. He has been quite healthy his whole life til last year he developed some severe allergies and asthma after a parasite (he’s normally on meds but I was moving and lost them in the move. Didn’t know it was parasites til after 2 months. I feel awful about it so please don’t come 4 me). After spending 1000s, turns out he’s totally fine other than the asthma/allergies. No tumors, no cancer, no growth, normal blood work. Went to a fancy university vet and they did a thorough work up. Just chronic rhinitis.

He was on steroids for a few months to treat his allergies and he has horrible incontinence on steroids. But months after we fully finished the steroids, he’s continued to have accidents in the house. He does not have a UTI and his kidneys are totally fine. Vet says he has the bloodwork of a 4 year old dog. He acts happy and playful otherwise. Still asks to go out like normal and no urgency. He’s only on gabapentin and a steroid inhaler. He has literally NEVER done this in the 13 years I’ve owned this dog.

Since all the tests were negative, my local vet said it probably behavioral and just some residual urgency from the steroids. I don’t mind putting him some Prozac and seeing if it helps - we did that when he was much younger for anxiety and it worked great. BUT it’s very out of character for him and he licks his weenie a lot too like it bugs him. He’s very thirsty still too, which isn’t totally out of character, but he still drinks til the waters gone so I cut him off now.

I thought it was just the steroids but he recently peed on my bed when I was home which he’s NEVER done. Only on steroids or from separation anxiety he had when he was younger. He had literally just been outside maybe an hour before and wasn’t heavily drinking water.

Anyway, welcome to my old dog saga, if anyone has any experience with this, that would rule. It just feels like it’s a deeper medical issue but I don’t wanna spend anymore time being veterinary Dr. House. He might just be crazy, that wouldn’t be new.
