Im presenting my first poster!

I made a post a few weeks ago about wanting to do my first poster session, and I am happy to say that my abstract got accepted today :) Super excited but super nervous. Thank you all for giving me the confidence to propose this idea to my pi and then actually submit it!

Baby bird (starling?) found on ground

My mom found a baby bird that fell on the ground, and we arent sure what to do with it until wildlife centers open in the evening. We have a dog at home, and our neighbors let their cats out often so neither of those options seem great. Suggestions?

So far, she is planning to leave the box on a bush or tree near where it fell in case the parents come back and monitor it from afar and if by the end of the evening the parents dont come back, bring it into our garage for the night away from the dog and outdoor cats. We do not own a heating pad

Update: we found a private exotics rehaber who is able to take the starling!

Difference between dating anxiety and genuinely not wanting to date

Im in my 20s and have never been in the relationship stage of dating before, but have dated and have been seeing someone. The idea of a relationship is kinda scary to me, but I can't tell if its genuine dread of a relationship or being scared of a new thing. Is it a dick move to keep seeing this person while not being sure?

Spending tracking apps

Does anyone have any suggestions for free apps that will track how much money you've spent in a set category? ie: I set a budget of $150 for groceries and I imput how much I spend per grocery trip. I would prefer for the app to not require me to use it to make a budget within the app. I was going to use a spreadsheet, but figured that there theres probably an existing app that would be better.

Area around Hua Xing

Hi! Im considering moving to a place near the Hua Xing asian market, and was wondering about the general safety of the area, especially at night. I commute by bus to ann arbor, and sometimes get home pretty late when its getting dark, espcially in the winter. While I know there are street lamps along main roads, the neighborhood I was interested in has minimal lighting and also no sidewalks. Is this a major concern, from both a harassment and a crazy driver angle?

Is shaving my sides and growing out a mullet a bad idea for my type of hair?

Every few months a voice in my ear tells me to shave my sides and grow out the back of my hair. Right now, I'm just kinda sick of having to trim my hair all the time to maintain a short cut. As is the tradition for all trans guys, I'm now seriously considering a mullet again.

However, my hair is pin straight, thin follicle east asian hair. It's also extremely resistant to any modification such as perming or ironing, and I style it in my short cut with eco gel and g2b hairspray. Is there a way to do a mullet and make it look good with my hair type? Additionally, does anyone have any suggestions for masc styles that can be legt to grow out a bit more with my hair type?

S23 autocorrect getting worse recently?

Ive been noticing with the most recent few updates that my phone's autocorrect has been "correcting" perfectly correct spellings into completely different words. I notice it especially when I'm using more technical words - for example, "fmri" -> "friends". Is this due to AI? Is there a way to fix this without turning off autocorrect fully?

Having no income during law school is kinda scary

I think it's just now hitting me that I'm not going to have any streams of income in law school, and as someone whos worked at least part time pretty continuously since 18, it's a daunting thought. Like, was my part time undergrad job income a living wage? Not at all. But having it felt like a mental safety net and the 0 in my budgeting spreadsheet for income is haunting me lol

Emphasizing research communication on application

I recently got feedback on my PhD app statements that I should emphasize research communication experience more, such as publications or poster presentations. Unfortunately, the lab I was primarily in during undergrad wasn't a good mentorship enviornment and didn't really offer these opportunities to me, and I didn't think to find a better lab until it was too late for to me feasibly publish anything with my remaining time.

I plan to ask my current PI if he would support me doing a poster presentation to get more communication experience as I have data for projects I'm currently doing, but otherwise, how can I emphasize this skill given that I don't have any publications? I have experience as a science communicator to the general public, but the vibes I get is that programs only really care about academia experience?

Was curious because I've met a lot more hockey and beach volleyball (????) people than I thought I would. Also met less tennis players than I hoped lol. What do the sports demographics look like?
