Justifying the Monthly Price for DirecTV

If I lived by myself, I wouldn't even have DirecTV. I would be satisfied with an OTR HDTV antenna. However, I am married. My spouse is retired and loves to watch TV. The TV is on at least 12-16 hours a day, and she is in control. We pay $116 a month for the DirecTV Select package. We also pay about another $25 a month for separate streaming packages, or $141 a month. Even though I don't watch any of it, I gladly justify the expense. Why? Simply because if my spouse is NOT watching TV, then she is out doing discretionary shopping. Any shopping trip is going to be at least $200. If DirecTV prevents her from shopping even once a month, I am money ahead. /s

I served the Divorce Papers to USAA Today

It took me 30 minutes on hold to reach someone to tell them that I won't be renewing my policy. The CSR wanted to know why. I mentioned my long hold time just to reach someone - for starters. I mentioned that the double digit yearly price increases have gotten out of hand, and I found a much better rate with better coverage. She wanted to know who I went with and how much I will be paying. I declined to tell her.

Roku Ultra 4660X Will Not Connect To Tablo 4th Generation

A few weeks ago, our Roku Ultra 4660X suddenly stopped connecting to our Tablo 4th generation device. It continually says "Connecting to your Tablo," but won't get past that screen. We can watch the same Tablo on other Roku devices in our house, but not with the 4660X. I did system resets on the Tablo and Roku, removed the app and reinstalled it, and did a factory reset on the Roku. It still won't connect. This is not a legacy Tablo, and Roku doesn't classify the 4660X as legacy.

Jury Duty

Both my spouse and I have voted in Tennessee for over 30 years. We are registered voters and have always voted in the Democrat primary. Neither of us have ever been called for jury duty. If it is truly random, what are the chances of not getting called? Or, is there some conspiracy bias going on in our red county?

USAA HO Insurance & NFIP Flood Insurance

I have both an HO policy from USAA and a NFIP Flood Policy administered through USAA. I am thinking of getting my HO insurance through a different carrier. If I drop my USAA HO policy (due to exorbitant annual rate increases), will USAA still renew and administer the NFIP policy (which is what I want)? The flood policy renews one month later than the HO policy. Or will USAA tell me to find someone else to handle the flood policy, since I no longer have HO with them? If so, and I have to get the flood policy through a new carrier, will I be subject to the 30 day wait period?

Expatriate Visiting & Other Drivers

Visiting this week. In less than 24 hours being here: 1) Going south on Union and waiting at the light to turn left onto Main St. I get the green arrow to turn left, and proceed to make my turn until the octogenarian going north on Union decides to turn right onto Main St. 2) Going south on Transit and get the light at the entrance to Walmart near the Delta Sonic. The light turns green and by the time I reach where the light is, there is still another driver coming out of Walmart against a red light and sheepishly trying to turn left onto Transit. Y'all need road tests for seniors, and I'm a senior saying that!!!

Accident Forgiveness

As I was reviewing my policy on the internet, Geico offered accident forgiveness for an additional $85 every 6 months. This is for 3 vehicles and 2 drivers. I decided to take it, but I am wondering if I didn't take it, and one of us had a serious, chargeable accident, how much would my rates increase? Is $170 a year worth it?

AWD Performance

For AWD owners that drive in city that gets lots of snow (for example, Buffalo), how did your Camry with AWD perform? Did you experience any clearance issues? Did you stick with the stock tires?

Your Vices While Watching a Bills Game

Be honest. Have you ever watched a Bills game without drinking at least one alcoholic beverage, smoking/vaping, doing any other drugs, gambling on the outcome of the game, getting pulled-over or arrested, or destroying/vandalizing property? I'm sure I forgot a few.

iOS Mail App Not Working

If you start getting an error when accessing Comcast/Xfinity email on the iOS repeatedly asking you for a password, try doing so with VPN turned off. Worked for me.

In the lyrics to Manana, Jimmy Buffett sings:

"The new album's old and I'm fresh out of tunes
But I know that I'll get 'em, I know that they'll come..."

In all honesty, did he ever have any fresh tunes after this album?

For example:

Do you provide your contact information on their website and wait for them to respond?

Do you wander around the lot waiting for a sales person to approach you?

Do you enter the showroom and wait for a sales person to approach you?

Do you call ahead, explain that you're in the market, and ask to make an appointment?

What's your process?
