Let go from prestigious cybersecurity role right before planned relocation to remote-only area. Will I be able to find remote work again?
I'm 25 and have 5 years of cybersecurity analyst experience. Two years of which were “senior level”. I have an Associate's degree and a Security+.
Things were amazing a few months ago, I was making a ton of money at a prestigious company and amassed about $185,000 in savings. I was hired from the mountains of rural Tennessee, and moved to Maryland last year to try working hybrid and enjoy living in a metropolitan area. I had my fill and was planning to return at the end of this year and continue working remotely, but I was let go back in May.
The problem is I don't want to stay here in the DMV, I need to go back to my hometown in the mountains.
That said, I understand that it'll be extremely hard for me to find remote work, let alone remote work that'll let me work from the middle of nowhere. I'm prepared to blow through savings for a whole year to try to make it work. I don't have family so I'm all on my own in whatever path I choose.
I'm wondering if I need to prepare for a career change or if there's hope for me to find new work, and what advice any more senior people may have.
