I’m honestly feeling overwhelmed and don’t know what to do anymore.
Last year, I became the victim of a scam. Someone impersonated a government authority and convinced me to give them access to my phone through AnyDesk. Unauthorized transactions were then made from my Dubai Islamic Bank account.
I immediately reported everything to the police, filed a complaint with the bank, and also complained to the Central Bank. Unfortunately, the bank rejected my claim, saying the transactions were authorized because OTPs were used.
Now I have an execution case against me for a returned cheque. The amount being claimed is AED 66,359.60, and a travel ban has already been placed on me.
I genuinely don’t have the money to pay this amount in full, and I’m scared about what will happen next. I’ve been trying to deal with this for over a year, and I feel like I’ve run out of options.
If anyone has been through something similar in the UAE or knows what I should do next, I would be incredibly grateful for your advice.
Has anyone managed to resolve a similar case?
Is it possible to request installments through Dubai Courts?
Is it worth hiring a lawyer at this stage?
Are there any organizations or legal aid services that might be able to help?
Please be kind. I’m under a lot of stress and I’m just looking for guidance from anyone who has experience with this.
