Do the top doctors usually let you book a hair transplant without first paying for a consultation?

Long waitlists are a big concern for me, but I still want to go to an excellent doctor. With that in mind, do you think this plan would work?

I want to create a shortlist of 10 or so great doctors from around the world (thankfully I do have the flexibility to travel anywhere at any date).

Then, I'd message them every week or every two weeks, hoping that someday they'll have just had a cancellation, at which point I'd snatch it and book the surgery and pay a deposit or whatever.

My only concern is, am I allowed to book a transplant without paying for a consultation first? Paying for one consultation would be fine, but paying for ten would become problematic.

Quem vocês consideram tipo o top 10 dos brasileiros mais competentes em transplante capilar?

O top 3 pra mim me parece meio óbvio. Dr. Pittela em Vitória, e Dr. Thiago Leal e Dr. Alan Wells em SP. Nessa ordem.

Mas eu não faço ideia quem que deveria vir depois em termos de talento/conhecimento/etc.

How do waitlists work for the top doctors?

Like the doctors in the list people in this sub have gracefully curated. Specifically the more affordable ones in Southern Europe, Latin America, Thailand and Turkiye.

  • What's like the average/median wait time? Like the time between first reaching out to the clinic and finally doing the transplant?

  • Are there any reliable tricks to decreasing the wait time? Can you keep calling in every week and asking if there was a cancellation, or is that not a thing that people do? Or does it rarely work?

  • Can you book a transplant with multiple surgeons, to give yourself multiple shots at an early cancellation? Or is this a bad idea because all the good doctors have large unrefundable deposits?

Do we have solid stats on regret vs satisfaction?

Like what % of hair transplant patients after 12 or 18 months regret vs would recommend the surgery.

Would be interesting to break it down by country too, like what the % is if they had it done in the US vs in Europe vs in Turkiye.

Since hair mills by definition deal with a very high volume of patients, and most patients don't do their due diligence, one would expect the % to be much worse in Turkiye, but who knows.

How different should my Hair Transplant considerations be if I'm NW 2 - 2.5 as opposed to high NW like many of us?

As you can see here, I don't really have any serious bald spots, just a serious receding hairline that I'd love to get rid of. I've also been on fin for like 18 months, which seems to have stabilized my hair loss, but as you can tell I sadly started it too late. Oh, and I'm about to 35 btw for what it's worth.

So anyways, I'm wondering, as I research more and more about HTs on this sub and elsewhere, is there anything I should keep in mind that will be different for me than it would be for the NW 4, 5, 6+ men whose stories I'm reading about? For example:

  • Would an HT be much cheaper for me? From what I can tell HT prices are usually per graft, as opposed to having a high fixed cost. Excluding of course travel/anesthesia/hospital fees/etc.

  • I'm guessing I pretty much need to go with FUE/DHI, and FUT is out of the question? Do you agree?

  • Are there doctors that specialize in low NW vs high NW? Is this something I should keep in mind as I research doctors? One example I read about is Dr. Pittela, who's apparently one of the best surgeons in the world, but I read multiple comments saying that he's excellent for high NW and it's a bit of a waste to go with for him if you have low NW.

  • Along those same lines, is my case technically easier from the surgeon's perspective? In other words, harder to mess up? In which case it would be less worthwhile for me than it is for other men to pay up for a top 20 surgeon, and I'll most likely be fine choosing a top 200 surgeon instead?

  • Would recovery be easier for me? Maybe I won't need to learn to sleep on my stomach, or maybe a domestic or even international flight soon after the HT will be much less risky for me than they are for many patients? Maybe I won't even need to shave my head at all? Maybe it will be much quicker for me to stop looking ugly and start looking decent?

  • Anything else that isn't coming to mind but that you think I should know about?

Bonus: how many grafts would you guesstimate I'll need? Just so I can have some idea of how much I'll end up paying.

How good is ISHRS vs ABHRS vs Both vs Neither?

I live in the US but I'm debating getting a hair transplant in Brazil (where I'm from, and visit yearly) vs Turkiye (for obvious reasons).

I was wondering exactly how good/reassuring it is for your surgeon to be a diplomat with the American Board vs a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery.

Do you think one is much better than the other, or they're about equally as good?

Do you think being in both is much better than just one?

Or do you think these are only small benefits, and there are other more important factors to research when choosing your surgeon?

Is there a good guide or primer that you know of?

I'm planning to get a hair transplant and I'm wondering what's the best place to start reading and learning about the procedure.
