Mawn Puck and See

I somehow snagged a puck and see reservation just by randomly refreshing the website when I was practicing to try to book a table. I'm very excited but unsure of what to expect... i saw somewhere that you could let them know ahead of time dishes that you would be excited to have? has anyone done that? Are there any dishes we should ask for?

Birthday dinner recs

hiii everyone,
I’m planning on treating myself to a fancy dinner by myself next week, does anyone have any recommendations for restaurants that don’t feel super intimidating when alone and have good food? I’m open to any cuisine!!

Best Charcuterie in the city

Title says it all! I’m looking for everyone’s favorite charcuterie in the city. Meat and cheese preferred! No recs that are reliant on nut forward boards, as I am allergic. Extra points for boards with great pâté!! 🤭

Thus far I’ve only had the boards at The Mulberry and Harpers Garden. They were— meh.

Best dinner delivery near convention center

If you were in from NYC, staying near the convention center, and were bone tired, where would you order dinner from?

All cuisines welcome as long as they travel well. Bonus points for Philly’s best restaurants that happen to deliver.

Alpen Rose

Had a fantastic dinner at Alpen Rose the other day with my SO. Really good fancy date night if anyone is looking for one. For a weekend I would book as far in advance as you can, it filled up almost as instantly the resy became available. Expensive, but that was our own fault. If I were going again, I would load up on apps and skip/split an entrée. Entree's were a little unremarkable compared to the amazing sides.

From start to finish: Bone marrow toast (LOVE) -> Potato Pave -> Tartare -> Branzino -> Duck (A little disappointing)

Yes, I didn't get a steak at the steakhouse (off of this subs recommendation) so maybe I am off base a little.

Servers: I am moving to Philly - trying to transition from one fine dining job into another. How is that done?

I am currently employed at a spot with a Michelin recommendation. Been there for almost three years. It is fine dining and menu interrogations and wine knowledge are part of my day-to-day. Is that enough to be competitive right away or should I expect to spend some time in more casual restaurants before I can break through?

Bike messenger lunch

This is one of my favorite lunches if I’m on the streets all day and I catch a run to the U of P Hospital / CHOP area. The Korean bbq beef shortrib and kimchi burrito from the Tyson Bees food truck at 33rd and Spruce. They do a Korean and Mexican fusion menu.

Delicious Korean bbq beef, kimchi with nice crunchy red cabbage in it, some kind of crack sauce, and rice. All wrapped up in a giant burrito.

Also there’s big sprigs of cilantro in it, like banh mi style. And every time I’ve ever gotten this burrito, the cilantro is very fresh. Not one wilty sprig in like 20 years of going there. To me that’s an important indication of pride and quality.

It’s a box truck with graffiti style bees painted on it. They’re always there. They’re always friendly. It never takes too long. I can’t say enough about them, honestly. On a busy courier workday I can be running a serious calorie deficit and this thing sets me right up.

I vaguely remember that the edamame tacos are also good. But the burrito is my lady.

That’s the post.

EMei owner has bought the long-shuttered Irish Pub in Rittenhouse

"Dan Tsao, co-owner of Chinatown’s Sichuan destination EMei, has bought the landmark Rittenhouse property that housed the Irish Pub — his third major real estate acquisition in less than a year — as he pushes to expand the fast-growing restaurant beyond Chinatown."

"Tsao, who owns EMei and the nearby TingTing’s Cafe, said the Rittenhouse property could become a flagship location for EMei, which his mother-in-law, Jinwen Yu, and chef Yongcheng Zhao opened in 2011. Tsao and his wife, TingTing, took over EMei in 2019. EMei appeared on The Inquirer’s inaugural list of essential restaurants, The 76, in 2024."

Lunch options near Independence Hall

We will be in Philly for the classic educational tourist tour of Independence Hall and surrounding historical sites. I’m looking for suggestions for not to be missed lunch options for a family of 6 ages range from 9 to mid 60s. Not too picky.

Also, taking suggestions on sites to see. :) Thanks!

🎁: New York Bagels’ owner vows to reopen after two explosions, but questions remain

The oven caused both explosions, the fire department said, and L&I has since deemed New York Bagels unsafe to occupy. If repairs are not made within 30 days, L&I warned that it could move to vacate or demolish the property.

Again, always happy to answer any questions y'all may have since I know the initial news of the second explosion left a lot of people (myself included!) very heartbroken.

Maybe it’s bc I’m nostalgic but after eating Del Rosi’s…

I’m just craving a deli steak w amoroso roll. This bread has no oil, no grease, and as a result it’s dry, I needed ketchup. The new age steak is so overrated

Also nearly $20 for a steak is insane

Edit: Del Rossis didn’t miss w my specific steak. This isn’t anti Del Rossi it’s anti this genre

Old city recommendations

My boyfriend and I are staying in old city for two nights. Looking for some cool local spots- rooftop bars/ nice restaurant for the first night. During the day we love coffee shops, vintage stores, thrift stores, unique artsy finds. We’ll have a car but would prefer walking.

Thanks!
