nature.comRant: Labour would've fared better if they didn't double down on the privacy-intrusive age verification laws in the first place
There are obviously alternative methods to address Big Tech enshittification and its harms to children by for example making addictive algorithms opt-in only, trusted flagger programs on major platforms and getting ICANN to set up a .kid domain for kid-safe services only, but all they had done is to insist on intruding on people's digital privacy by keep pushing for age verification laws that will force users to submit their faces and ID for checks.
Even if age verification laws are inevitable, all they should do is to carve out a possibility for privacy-safe verification methods like Needemand's BorderAge so that the laws won't result in a panopticon. If Labour was sensible in all that instead of going to the extremes they would've fared better in the elections a few days ago.
