Nasty smell coming from sink and washing machine ?

Hi,

I have nasty sewer-like smell, coming only from kitchen sink and washing machine. Can someone help me to at least get an idea what this could be ? I am looking for a professional plumber but still want to understand what it might be and how much it would potentially cost.

It was fine before, then all of a sudden it started to smell. I tried putting some drain cleaner down, didn't help.

I don't think it's the trap as I took it apart and cleaned it.

Thanks.

By the way if you're a plumber in Lincoln, and available at some point next week please let me know.

Suit or business casual?

Got a final round case interview with EY (Canada) in person. I already had a suit and tie ready to go but then got the confirmation email and it specifically says "Business Casual" attire. Now I'm second guessing myself. Is it weird to just wear the suit anyway or should I actually dress it down since they wrote it out explicitly? Don't want to look like I ignored the instructions but also don't want to be the underdressed.

Client was unsure where I was from ?

Usually people don't ask me where I'm from but this client has, it surprised me a little, this is the video I sent them. Where do you think I'm from ? I work for a US company and our clients are usually from USA.

Has anyone in the UK managed to sleep properly tonight ?

This is ridiculous. It’s 5am, I’ve slept for about two hours, it’s 27 degrees in the bedroom.

The UK should not have weather like this. We’re a country designed for drizzle and mild disappointment, not temperatures normally reserved for rotisserie chickens.

Bath tap gives hot water but shower only runs cold?

Just moved into a new house and I’ve got a strange issue with the bath/shower mixer tap.
If I run the bath tap, I get hot water no problem. However, when I pull up the little diverter switch to send the water to the shower head, the water comes out cold.

Any advice please ?

Cheers

Building a Voyager-inspired OS less emulator for my MSc dissertation, struggling to shape it into proper research questions

Hi,

I'm doing my MSc in Computer Science and I've been a bit of a Voyager geek for years. The probe that's been running since 1977 on 70KB of memory, no operating system, FORTRAN and Assembly, and NASA still managed to patch it from 14 billion miles away a couple of years back.

Anyway I want to base my dissertation around it. The rough idea is to build a simple emulator that reflects how Voyager handled things like task scheduling, memory management, and software updates, using a cooperative main control loop with no OS underneath. Written in C++, maybe a bit of Assembly for comparison. The point isn't to recreate the hardware, more to implement the same software principles and see how they hold up.

What I'm struggling with is shaping it into proper research questions that are actually testable.

Would love to hear from anyone who works in embedded systems or has done research in this space.

Cheers

Hey folks,

Moving from the UK to Canada in August and trying to match my current car.

I’ve got a Toyota RAV4 Dynamic (2019) and absolutely love it. I’d like to get the exactly the same colour and spec again in Canada, maybe a tad newer, but I know the trim names are different over there.

What’s the closest Canadian equivalent to the UK “Dynamic” spec?

Thanks !
