my late uncle was a low-key hoarder and his old house in richfield is... a lot. is it possible to sell without clearing it first?

so I am dealing with my late uncle's estate in Richfield, Minnesota and it is incredibly overwhelming. He wasn't quite like the extreme people you see on reality TV, but he was definitely a low-key hoarder. the house is completely packed with old newspapers, broken furniture, boxes of random junk, and decades of clutter.

I am completely embarrassed by the state of it and honestly, the thought of spending my weekends filling up multiple dumpsters makes me want to cry.

can you actually sell a house with literal mountains of junk still inside? I noticed that local investors say they will buy houses exactly as they sit, meaning we can just take the family photos and leave the rest behind

does anyone have real experience with this? do they actually handle the cleanout themselves without charging you crazy fees later on?

How do you even break this f loop?

How do you stop. Me 29F. Broke off a long-term engagement a few years back. Started out as just a glass of wine to fall asleep, now it's a bottle or two every single night. Cannot break the pattern. It's destroying my health and my looks, everything I care about. I play off the whole high-functioning thing. Work a solid corporate job, get my tasks done, but the second 5:00 PM hits, I drink until midnight. Easily a 12-pack of seltzers or heavy pours of liquor. Every. Single. Day.

I want out so bad. I just got promoted too, a major step up with incredible money. But I can't put the glass down. My record sober streak in three years is maybe three days. Tried going cold turkey last Tuesday. Total disaster. Zero sleep. Woke up shaking, heart pounding out of my chest, soaked in sweat from nightmares. It scared me.

Every night I sit on the couch wasted, looking up detox timelines, workout routines, promises to make tomorrow Day 1. Then morning comes, stress hits, and I just think "what's the point anyway? everything is a mess."

[free] cleaning out the garage and found my old homelab

decided to clean out my garage this weekend. been putting it off for like 2 years. found my old homelab setup sitting in the corner collecting dust. dell r720, couple of cisco switches, some random hp servers. honestly forgot i even had them.

they still power on and everything but honestly i just dont have the time or energy to mess with them anymore. life gets busy and i barely even touch my current lab.

tried listing a few things on facebook marketplace but holy crap the amount of lowball messages is insane. like no i will not take 20 for a fully functional server with 128gb ram. people are wild.

kinda torn though. part of me wants to keep one server just for nostalgia. but realistically its just taking up space and my wife keeps asking when im going to get rid of that junk.

what do you guys do with your old gear when you upgrade. do you sell it off piece by piece or just bulk it out.

Spent 4 days backpacking around Sydney, here is how we avoided the boring tourist traps

We just finished a short 4-day stopover in Sydney before heading up the East Coast. Getting into the city from the airport was super easy via the train, and luckily the winter weather was perfect, around 18°C and clear skies every day. However, after the first two days of walking across the Harbour Bridge and staring at the Opera House from the pavement, things started to feel a bit repetitive. Plus, those massive, slow commuter ferries were always packed and felt kind of boring.

To break the routine, we shifted our itinerary to a few distinct local experiences. We did the coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee early in the morning. The views were incredible and it didn't cost a cent. For sunset, we skipped the expensive rooftop bars, grabbed some cheap takeaway, and headed down to Mrs Macquarie's Chair; the view of the skyline from there is unbeatable.

On our final afternoon, we wanted to get out on the water but wanted something with real energy instead of a slow cruise. A few guys from our hostel were debating between the two main jet boat companies at Circular Quay: Oz Jet (the red boats) and Thunder Jet (the orange ones). They both do wild spins and tricks, but Oz Jet offers a slightly shorter 30-minute ride, whereas a few of us decided to go with Thunder Jet Boating because their main adrenaline slot gives you 45 minutes on the water for a similar price. They blast music and do high-speed 360-degree spins right in front of the main landmarks. You will get completely drenched on either one, so definitely bring a dry change of clothes and a plastic bag for your wet gear.

I would 100% go back again next time I'm in NSW. For anyone planning a trip soon, just make sure to book your harbor activities online in advance, as most spots around Circular Quay offer decent web discounts compared to walk-in rates.

ai tools recs

Been trying to step up my meme game lately and honestly struggling to find something that actually works well. I need something that can take a concept or short text prompt and turn it into a decent meme fast, not just slap text on a stock image. Ideally something that understands context and can generate the image too, not just the caption.

I found an AI meme generator recently that did a decent job but I want to see what else is out there before I commit to anything. Also been going down a rabbit hole of random AI tools this week.

Anyway, if you're actively using something for meme creation that's not just the basic stuff, drop it below. Is there anything that handles niche or technical humor well or is that still too much to ask from these tools?

this whole legal thing in Scarborough is kinda overwhelming

my uncle got himself into a situation couple months back, nothing crazy but still serious enough to need a lawyer. and lemme tell you, trying to find someone decent in Scarborough who doesnt charge you an arm and leg just for a consultation was way harder than i thought. everyone we called either had this attitude like they were doing us a favor or straight up quoted us numbers that made my head spin.

we're not rich by any means, like my uncle works at a warehouse, i do delivery gigs, so dropping thousands on a retainer wasnt even an option. went to a few places near STC area and one guy literally just googled something in front of us and called it "research." like bro i couldve done that myself.

its wild how hard it is to get proper legal help here without feeling like youre getting ripped off. anyone else have this experience or did we just get unlucky with the ones we called

does every dentist try to sell invisalign now?

i literally booked a cleaning and somehow ended up getting a whole presentation about my bite . i'm not even against invisalign, but i wasn't there for that. i wanted someone to tell me if i had a cavity and send me on my way. it feels like every new office i try has before/after photos, payment plans, scans, "here's what your smile could look like..." and i'm just standing there thinking my teeth are fine, i promise. does anyone have a recommendation for an atlanta dentist that's just a normal dentist? someone who isn't trying to turn every appointment into a consultation for something else.

Do patients ever give up on PT right when the treatment is actually working?

Had a random thought after a skin consultation I went to recently. The clinician made a point of saying real improvement in skin takes months, not weeks, and people often stop before results actually show.

It got me thinking about physical therapy.

A few friends have gone through PT and most of them got frustrated early on because nothing felt different day to day. One quit after six weeks, and honestly I think he was making progress at that point, just couldn't see it yet.

From a PT's perspective, how common is this? Patients dropping out or getting discouraged right around the time things are actually starting to turn around?

And is there a good way to help them see the gradual progress without just telling them to trust the process? Curious what actually works in practice.

my feet are screaming by the time my break finally comes

been at publix about 6 months now. front service clerk. lot of walking, lot of standing. i thought i'd get used to it but honestly my feet hurt worse now than when i started.

tried a few different shoes. some cheap ones from walmart, some new balances. the cheap ones died in like 3 weeks. the new balances felt okay for a month and now the foam is flat.

been icing my feet every night and taking ibuprofen before shifts. it helps a little but not enough.

i'm just tired of being in pain every day. anyone found shoes that work for 8hr shifts on concrete

Creepy reality check at a coworking space this week... How do you guys protect your personal info from strangers on the road?

Hey guys, wanted to share a weird experience I had a few days ago that completely changed how I think about my privacy while traveling. I was working from a local cafe/coworking spot and struck up a conversation with another expat. We chatted for maybe 20 minutes, exchanged WhatsApp numbers, and that was it. Later that night, he sends me a "joking" text with my old US phone number, my last three addresses, and my sister's name. He thought he was being funny/clever showing off his "OSINT skills," but you know? It freaked me out.

It made me realize how insanely vulnerable we are as digital nomads. We join local WhatsApp groups, use dating apps in new cities, and network constantly. We think we're anonymous because we're on the other side of the world, but if anyone gets your phone number or full name, they can look you up on US data brokers in minutes if they want.

Do you guys audit your digital footprint before traveling, or am I just overreacting here? How do you keep your personal life private when you're constantly putting yourself out there in new communities?

Building a solid baseline stack for men’s overall health (30s). What am I missing?

Hey everyone, turned 33 recently and I’m trying to stop just randomly buying whatever bottles look good on Amazon and actually build a proper, long-term supplement stack. My main goals right now are just baseline longevity, consistent daily energy (no afternoon slumps), better recovery after weight training, and keeping my brain sharp for work.

Right now, my daily lineup is pretty basic: vitamin D3 (5000 IU) + K2, magnesium glycinate (right before bed, absolutely saved my sleep), omega-3 fsh oil, zinc and copper balance

It’s a decent start I hope, but I feel like I'm leaving some gaps on the table... especially when it comes to long-term cellular health and metabolic support. For the guys in their 30s and 40s who feel a noticeable difference in their vitality, focus, and joints-what is your absolute go-to (please tell me your secret)? should I just stick to the essentials and not overcomplicate it Would love to hear what your daily baselines look like. Thanks!

ERP contractor ghosted our deadline. Do I fire them or ride it out?

Okay, I need to vent. And maybe get some advice before I lose my mind completely

We hired a firm to implement NetSuite for us. They promised delivery in four months. That was six months ago. Now they're hitting us with the classic like oh, it's more complicated than we expected… and …customizations take time… excuses. Every time we get close to a deadline, they push it back another two weeks

My boss is breathing down my neck. Daily. I'm waking up at 3 AM staring at the ceiling, running through spreadsheets in my head

I've started shopping around for a backup plan. Found one company as they claim 22 years of experience, which sounds solid on paper. But I'm terrified of making things worse

What if I pull the plug on our current guys and the new team needs three months just to untangle whatever mess the old team left behind? What if we end up even further behind, with even less budget, and I'm the one holding the bag?

Part of me wants to keep yelling at our current contractor until they finally deliver something. Another part wants to cut our losses and bring in fresh eyes

Has anyone actually been through a mid-project swap like this? How did it go? Was it the best decision or a total disaster?

I honestly don't know which path leads to less pain. If you've survived an ERP implementation nightmare, please tell me your story. I need to know I'm not alone in this

Kind of amazed at how bad my spatial awareness is when planning a backyard layout

We had some people over last night for a cookout and I finally saw how horribly laid out our backyard patio is. Literally every time someone wanted a drink they had to squeeze past the hot grill, and it just felt incredibly cramped even though our yard itself is huge.

So I spent all morning pacing around with a tape measure trying to figure out how people map out outdoor spaces so they actually flow right. Also looked at professional "hardscape" portfolios just to get a realistic sense of scale and how you're supposed to separate cooking zones from seating areas, and yeah, you need WAY more square footage than you think.

Definitely scrapping my plan to just throw down cheap DIY stones next weekend. Without planning for foot traffic it is just a waste.

How do you actually know when your game is "fun enough" to show people?

This is something I keep running into and I genuinely don't know how other indie devs handle it.

I've been working on my game for about eight months now. It's playable, it has a core loop, and I can spend time in it without getting bored. But every time I think about posting a clip or sending it to friends for feedback, I talk myself out of it because some part of me says it's not ready yet.

The thing is, I don't know what "ready" even means at this stage. Is it when the art is polished enough? When there are no placeholder assets? When the UI stops looking like a programmer made it? All of the above?

I've read that you should get feedback early and often, but there's a real fear that showing something too rough will kill enthusiasm before the game has a chance to find its identity. At the same time, I know sitting in a vacuum for too long is how you end up building something nobody actually wanted.

How did you figure out the right moment to start showing your game to people? Was there a specific milestone, or was it more of a gut feeling? And did early feedback actually change the direction of what you were making?

Would love to hear from people at different stages of development.

When is the best time to see the northern lights?

I really want to see the northern lights in person this year. I have been thinking about different spots but I am opting more for Iceland because the location gives you a solid shot with long dark nights and you can mix in glaciers and hot springs without much extra travel.

Has anyone caught them there recently? What period works best in your experience?

Where are you guys getting welding gas from around Geelong? BOC has been doing my head in

Been with BOC out near Grovedale for about 6 years but I'm done. Price on a D-size argon/CO2 mix went from $38 to nearly $52 since the start of the year and the last few times I've shown up they either had the wrong stock or I waited 40+ mins, not good enough tbh. So where are people going these days? I do mostly mild steel MIG at home, bit of TIG on ally occasionally, not a tradie or anything, just hobby stuff but I go through maybe 2-3 cylinders every couple months so it adds up over time. Thinking of just trying coregas next, they've got a depot not too far. Also do most places do cylinder hire or is it all swap systems now? always confuses me when I move suppliers 👍

How often do VIN APIs get trim levels and factory options wrong?

I've been comparing vehicle data from different sources recently, and one thing that keeps surprising me is how much trim information can vary from one lookup to another. In some cases, the engine and model year match perfectly, but things like premium packages, technology packages, wheel options, or even the exact trim seem inconsistent.

That got me wondering how much trust people actually put in VIN decoding data when working with vehicle listings, valuations, or inventory management.

I came across Vincario while researching VIN lookup tools, but I have not used it enough to know how it compares with other providers.

For those who work with VIN data regularly, how accurate have VIN APIs been when it comes to trims and factory options? Do you verify the results manually, or have you found a provider that is reliable enough to trust on its own?

How do you even measure "AI search visibility"? My CMO is asking and I have no good answer

We rank well on Google. Traffic is fine. But our CMO keeps asking about AI search and I genuinely don't have a clean answer for how youtrack whether you're appearing in ChatGPT/Gemini/Perplexity responses

I've been doing manual prompt testing which is obviously not scalable. Some agencies are apparently building dashboards for this.

Is anyone doing this properly? What does "appearing in AI answers" even mean as a KPI, is it just running 100 relevant prompts a week and counting hits? Feels like we're in 2011 "how do we measure social media ROI" territory again.

what salary in aus makes you actually feel like you've made it?

I'm not talking about private jets or luxury sports cars. Not even close.

I just mean that baseline number where you can finally stop calculating the total in your head while tapping your card at the petrol station or ordering dinner. The point where booking a week away doesn't mean eating instant noodles for the next three months, and a sudden $800 mechanic bill is just a massive annoyance rather than a budget-destroying emergency.

What does that figure look like for you in Australia these days?

I know the goalposts move depending on your situation, renting a tiny apartment solo in the city is a completely different world compared to a family of four in the suburbs juggling a hefty mortgage, childcare, and grocery bills that have gone completely off the rails lately.

Honestly, I used to think hitting a $100k salary meant you'd officially made it. But I finally reached that milestone and it didn't feel like a relief at all. Between inflation and everyday expenses, the money just vanished, and the security I expected wasn't there.

So, what is the actual "comfortable" number in 2026? How much has that threshold jumped for you over the last couple of years?

Is anyone actually finding a consensus on this, or is everyone's version of financial peace completely miles apart?
