Rowhouse homeowners: how are you insulating your second/top floor between your ceiling and the roof?

Just bought a place that is otherwise pretty nice, but the AC is always less-great on the 2nd floor. The thermostat is located on the 2nd floor and it's a new, properly-sized HVAC system, so I suspect inadequate or nonexistent insulation on the top is likely to blame.

My initial research suggested the best way to do this is a kind of insulation that goes under the roof, and requires a roof replacement. The roof is brand new, so I don't really want to do that.

Has anyone done something like this without ripping the roof off?

I did it! All by myself - S Philly, $359k, 6.5%, 20 yr

Not a damn thing was ever given to me and I did it all *despite* the cards I was dealt in life. I busted my ass and clawed my way out of poverty and it feels surreal to be sitting in my own home.

Trying to pay for my package and update a name on an AP, Universal wont honor 15 month AP promotion

I got my friend a 15 month annual pass as a gift so we can go together.

I call in to pay for the Vacation Package as well as update her legal name. I didn't know the name my friend goes by is not her legal name.

The rep is telling me that they have to remove and re-add the annual pass, and that since the 15 month promotion is no longer available, she will only get the 12 month.

It is 44 days until our trip, and I was told I have up to 45 days to modify.
I'm not even modifying anything I'm actually buying. I just want the name on my friend's annual pass to match her ID...

People get married, change their names for all kinds of reasons. Because of a technical limitation with Universal's own software resulting in them not being able to change a name on an Annual Pass without completely deleting and re-adding it, I should have to concede three months of an Annual Pass??

Most ~relaxing~ things to do at UOR?

My partner and I are coming in early December for a quick 3-night getaway. Passholder rates for rooms were pretty cheap. We usually come for HHN and JAM PACK a week in. We have never been around during the holidays, when it's not 100 degrees, and for the purpose of a little fun quick vacation.

What are your favorite things to do around the resorts to ~chill~?
We're staying at Aventura and my only "must do" is see Wizarding World Christmas lights.

Buying a house solo, but live w my partner of 4 years, do I become his "landlord"??

The house is all mine, I've put all the money in, down, around, and he is supportive and "loves to be with a successful woman" lol.
-------

I make about 5xs as much as him, and our arrangement in the past has been that I pay for the rent and vacations, and he pays for utilities and our vehicle. We split the cost of our pets.

He's started mentioning that since it is my house, the utilities should be in my name. He even mentioned I should write a LEASE for him because he will need to proof of residence for various things.

I do love this guy and we are not breaking up any time soon, but that being said marriage is not in our future either. I'm already divorced and he doesn't "believe" in it (marriage), so I dont really know like, how to handle all this and dont have a lot of examples to look to.

Do I really become my partner's "landlord" and write him a lease for $0 rent?
Is there a reason that I should keep all the utilities in my name and just charge him??

I wasn't prepared for this weird dynamic change lol.

I'm YOLO buying my first ever house.

The condo I rent is for sale. I saw a credit karma notification that I have "outstanding" approval odds for a mortgage. I clicked the thing and got a call from a loan officer.

I've tried to see about buying a place before, but I never got in touch with anyone who would take the time to explain everything to me and help me see what my options were. This loan officer was really nice, so I went for it!

Turns out, the condo I live in is a bad buy, but while I had the pre-approval, I put my wants and wishes into Zillow.

There was a property listed THAT DAY that looked great!
I clicked the 'Contact' button on Zillow and it connected me with an agent who had answered random questions from me over the past few years. I told her I was just casually looking and if she knew of any upcoming open houses, I'd love to go.

She replied by saying she'd love to show it to me THAT day, and she had time. She understood I was super early in the process and just looking but she was glad to help.

I brought my partner along just for fun. The place was great! It has a unique parcel layout that makes it desirable in a city. It's a flip, but it's really nice quality work. The builder was there when we went and he proudly showed us around all the massive work they had done.

On my bike ride home I stopped and texted the agent that I want to make an offer! I figured, It's just the first house. If I don't get it, no big deal at all and I'll get some practice with offers. If it works out, well, great! It's a great house and I felt it was undervalued.

I was the first person to view the house.

I submitted the first offer.

My offer was accepted!
It appraised for $20k higher than I offered!

The financing people have not burned me at the stake!
It seems like everything is going to work out!
I'm in underwriting now, but I had a "desktop" approval so unless I lied or something changed, I think it's actually going to work.
I hired the best inspector money can buy, a plumber, and a radon guy, and overall the inspector loved the house. He spent over three hours looking in every single nook and cranny and gave me a detailed report.

My agent sent my punch list and the sellers said "no worries we will fix it all" -- and they did! I climbed myself up on a ladder to the roof to confirm!

I really wasn't planning for this so I don't have a plan for my rental. My landlord agreed to let me find a subleaser for the rest of my lease.

Anyways, that's how I'm YOLO buying a house.

I saw a sign in a bar recently that I think was a message just for me:
"Know what you want and have your money ready."

Y'all must be lucky to have never dealt with addiction in your life.

Whether it was you or someone you loved, you will *never* know what it is like to deal with crippling active addiction on a daily basis and some of y'all sound NASTY.

To not get it and sit on your judgement is a PRIVILEGE.
If someone taught you how health care works and a dentist doesn't trigger TF out of you, that's a PRIVILEGE.

Tana isn't FOR YOU if that's your attitude.
Why TF are y'all here??

She NEVER claimed to be anything but she is. What is this pollyanna-ass standard you guys are expecting her to uphold???

Fighting AI burnout w cute artifacts

I've been SOOOOOO burnt out on reading terminal and chat output, and my worth is measured in my token spend, so I've been having ai generate cute and fun html artifacts for me to interact with, and then send back some outputted report based on my interaction with the artifact.

10/10.

For example, I'm researching some approaches to event name ci guardrails, and i told it to make me a fun cute dopamine html artifact to display me some various details and capture my feedback

Have any strategies for dealing with a time obsession?

All by myself, I am fine. I know what time things are happening, how long it will take to get ready to go somewhere.

HOWEVER, almost everyone else in my life DRIVES ME FREAKING CRAZY, and I am starting to see that I may lose my relationship of 4 years over this - It's not just my partner tho - friends and family are also not very precise or considerate to me about time.

Like, if we are supposed to leave at 5, and at 4:45 it doesn't seem like we are going to leave at 5, if I ask "hey guys we were supposed to leave at 5 and we seem behind. What is our updated time we think we will leave", I am accused of rushing and being impatient, when I dont care what time we actually do leave, I just want to know what time it is and if it changes I want to update that.

IDK, I'm almost in tears typing this. It sounds so dumb but it's really getting in the way of my life. I get by in most other areas pretty well but this time thing has been something that drives me and those around me crazy since I was a kid.

if I can't figure this out I don't think I can be in a relationship anymore because I just can't physically and emotionally deal with the time uncertainty that comes with having a partner who doesn't understand.

Help. =[

What can I do to not come off so smart and "know it all" to people?

This is coming up a lot as I'm trying to start to build up a consulting/freelance career in my field, software engineering.

I'm also just one of those people who knows an endless amount of "fun facts" and I often share them and with friends who know me, they appreciate it (i think) but with gen pop, I come off like a complete nerd dork weirdo. I have been called "wikipedia" multiple times in my life.

Now, working on my consulting/freelance career:
I've been "making websites" 25 years. I dont mind making websites for friends who ask -- I can do it with my eyes closed!

Lately, when a friend asks me to make a website, I challenge myself to build a product that makes the website for them.

For example, my friend owns a print shop, and he wanted a website to capture leads and generate quotes. While there are numerous other products that exist to do this, I saw a need for busy business owners, especially print shops, to have somewhat complicated lead catching forms.

I made a website that is a website-maker to make your own lead generation pages. I set up his page on it, and shared the link.

He didn't answer me for a while, and I realize, I think it's because he thinks I just made him some page on "lead-form-generator".com, meanwhile, I made "lead-form-generator.com" , and set up his account on it. Not charging, obviously.

I was discussing this with my partner, and he asked if I liked to build websites. I told him I don't, but that it is very easy for me.

He told he he just hears me complaining about helping my friends and that I consider the work beneath me.

I wasn't trying to complain about the work, I was just trying to get another perspective about how my communication or approach could have gone wrong.

I'm not sure exactly what my question is, but for my fellow super smart ladies: how do you "moderate", "filter", "simplify" yourself to be a bit easier to understand for others?

Although it was not my intention, I can see how my proclivity to like, be too technical could come off wrong to people.

Also, if you have any insight into my specific type of situation, do you have any phrases to share with me for when a friend asks me to make them a website?

The full truth is "yes, I would love to make you a website! Your need is inspiring to make so I will make a whole generator of websites like yours and give you a free account on it for life?" But for some reason, I think that would be received really weirdly if I said it just like that.

This sub is not for people who actually like Kendall Rae

I joined this sub a few months ago, expecting to talk with ppl about the episodes, chit chat about people in the videos, stories, etc.

I didn't know a majority of people are like, REALLY mad at KR, and the rest and like hate the shows now.

It's WILD how closely you guys watch her, fact check her, know SO much stuff about her etc. I seriously just put this on in the background while I work, and sometimes on long drives.

This seems like a phenomena in other youtuber subs too. It'll literally be called like 'X Podcast Fan Club' and it's just the most toxic obsessed like weirdly hateful people all in one place lmao.

Booked a premier hotel specifically for Express Hagrid's... now what?

Bringing 2 people who have never ridden the ride because we're too old and tired to stand in line for 3 hours. I booked Hard Rock specifically for express for this reason. I'm not going to debate whether it's good or bad but it is bummer for those who were willing to pay.

I chatted customer service really nice and they told me:

"We are very sorry for the sudden change in Express policies for Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. You may speak with Guest Services upon arrival to voice your concerns, but we cannot guarantee that any accommodations will be made at this time. You may keep the current hotel selection to include Express access at all other participating attractions/experiences, or you may contact our Vacation Sales team at 1-855-763-8192 to discuss changing the hotel and adjusting the package rate.I am well and hope the same for you! It took less than 5 minutes to set up deepseek in Copilot CLI

Literally just switch for now y'all. Deepseek-v4-pro is so far pretty much on par with claude opus models and it's thousands of dollars less.
Save us daddy china.

I'm running deepseek as the model in my github copilot CLI. I asked chat GPT how to set it up. it was very easy.

I work for a startup on a small team. About a month ago the CEO told us all to be vibe coders, so we did.

EOD update: we used our entire monthly allocation on day 1

😎

We laid off the testing guy, we laid off the security guy. The C-suite and marketing people have been instructed to use AI as much as possible.

A few weeks ago I asked for a CLI tool recommendation, and I was told to "use claude" as in, "why are you even bothering to manually run CLI commands?" and also, our company is so naiive they just call all AI "Claude" even though we're using GH copilot w/ claude models lol.

We've built some useful skills, plugin, and in general I think have automated a lot more than most teams have. We have set up what I think is pretty sophisticated orchestration across the entire org.

Welp,

I think we are going to sh*t a fricking brick at our copilot bill this month.

No one *seems* to care but me. I mentioned last week if we are going to do anything different after unlimited ends, and the senior guy's attitude was that they truly believe github copilot is going to roll out their own model and go back to unlimited "because they own their own compute", he said.

I'm employee <#10, and we have managed to hang on for FOUR years now, but I'm kind of shook at leadership's lack of care/concern for this situation.

Maybe we really don't care? Maybe these tokens we shall burn will propel our startup engines to acquisition and exit???

Should I buy the condo I rent?

I am aware I am going to be downvoted and yelled at, but I'm genuinely looking for advice.

I rent a condo. The condo is one of the last units in the building still owned by the developer. It was rehabbed in like 2004 I think, and built in 1901.

Big building, great location, on the surface, in good condition. That being said, I don't know the details or financials.

I pay in rent quite under market rate for my apartment. I moved in 6 months ago.

I make 170k, have for the last 3 years.
I'm basically just barely caught up from being broke/poor/destitute for 15 years.
I dont have much emergency fund, but I moved here so I could get cracking on that.

I get a text from my landlord, that they want to sell the place and wanted to know if I wanted to make an offer, "would be glad to help me submit an offer"

The asking price is top of the market for this building.
Honestly, I'm not really in a position to get a conventional loan.

Boomer parents think I should buy the apartment because "equity".
I really don't have the money realistically, but I don't want to move either. I do like this place a lot and it actually has some room for improvement I could build my "equity" on,

but, besides that, owning it would drastically increase my cost of living. Between HOA, taxes, PMI, interest, I would come in WAY higher than I'm paying for rent.

So, should I move heaven and earth to buy the condo unit that I live in?
Accept someone else might buy it and I might have to move again when I really don't want to?

What should I do? I obviously haven't made smart financial decisions in the past so I'm hoping for some input here 😅

Edit: thanks for the input y'all. I think I'll make a lowball offer. I've gotten lucky in life before. The offer will be the most I can realistically afford, which ain't much. Worst case scenario, I just have to move again when my lease is up but maybe the new buyers will just let me keep living here 🤷‍♀️

edit: i genuinely appreciate all of the replies and insight. I have a lot to think about. thank you. 🙏

It's... strange? I've been a Senior SWE the whole time. They hired me at HIGHER than the salary I requested. I've never bothered to ask for a raise or promotion.

The first couple years my role was well-defined. As was the startup, lol. We have since morphed and mutated multiple times while finding PMF.

I was employee #7, we grew to ~35, and are now back down to ~14.

I have previous startup and corresponding layoff experience, so i work really hard and do specific things to avoid layoffs.

I think I have been an IC for probably a year or so now completely. I have some things I maintain and am in charge of, but I am never assigned like "frontend" or "backend" tickets on projects, I literally always do my own projects. 🤷‍♀️ I just find problems and areas to optimize and ways to help and do whatever is needed.

My boss, DOE, told me him and the CEO kept me through last round of layoffs because "he can just give me any problem and ill figure it out even if I have never used the technology before", which is true. I have a strong ownership mindset and like, I wanna see that equity pay off one of these days!

I guess idk a weird feeling creeps up on me sometimes.... why am i constantly an outsider in every area of life? Do i not get put on specific features because i suck?... am I "quiet fired" like that guy in silicon Valley where the most shameful thing they can do is pay you to do nothing?? Am I the personality hire???

is there any point in asking for a role change at this point?

Anyone have any thoughts or advice?

Update: I went and talked to the "strikers" today. They dont even work for the hotel. They work for some "Hotel Unite" organization group or some shit. I was really nice and asked how to help and they told me to buy higher quality windows. I told them I rent and one told me I should call the cops and file noise complains. SHE said that. So, next day that is not May Day I guess I will try filing a noise complaint.

Other update: They most likely are legally allowed to use the megaphone.

The workers are (rightfully) protesting with their union with drums and megaphones. It is affecting peace in my home and my quality of life. Management of the hotel doesn't seem to care. Why doesn't this hotel care there is a literal protest in front of it everyday??? I have called and email corporate to let them know. But alas, these union strikers are still without contracts. Anyone have suggestions on how I can get the attention of someone at Hilton?

They cant possibly know there is a giant inflatable rat and people with megaphones screaming at their guests, right?

Help me help myself by helping the union get to the negotiation table at least. Ty.
