I’m honestly getting pretty burnt out with this industry.

I got into video because I love filmmaking, cameras, storytelling, lighting, editing, all of it. But the longer I do this professionally, the more it feels like the actual video work is the easy part.

If i sell too hard and sell crazy offers etc that i know will get bites. I’ll still have to do the work on the back end so it feels like I can sell myself into a corner just for the sake of making a sale.

The exhausting part is constantly selling yourself.
Finding clients. Following up. Writing proposals. Negotiating. Even wealthy clients are doing it now.. i’m pretty sure we’re in a recession.

Explaining to someone why they should spend on video but being outbid by some “content creator” filming on their phone. AI while it is kinda low key ass makes people THINK AI can do it which is just as dangerous.

2 things will happen on this thread btw.

1. Someone will comment: THIS IS MY BEST YEAR EVER NONE STOP SALES. If thats you.. i’m very happy for you but this doesn’t seem to be the average experience.

2. Sell retainers! You’re not doing good enough sales. Yes but that doesn’t really take away how much the sales aspect plays into it.

I feel like other industries don’t have to try nearly as hard to sell. For example an impact window company. Do you live near hurricane territory? Well you probably need them. Boom sold.

Your toilets broken? I’m a plumber Boom sold.

You need your house painted because you want to sell it? I’m a painter boom sold.

Sure theres more that goes into it but yes you can sell a product people need faster and easier.

Hi, i originally wanted to potentially get a CS degree but with how cooked tech seems to be I'm not sure you can get the degree and shortly after that make money. Any one have experience/advice? I'd love to hear stories.

I came across this video essay about why YouTube and the internet don’t feel the same anymore, and it actually put into words something I’ve been feeling for a while.

It talks about algorithms, creators becoming brands, Shorts, ads, monetization, and how the old internet slowly turned into a content machine.

I’m curious if other people feel this too. Did YouTube actually get worse, or are we just nostalgic for the version of the internet we grew up with?

Hey y’all i make long form content about businesses. It feels to me like the second i stop posting shorts the channel looses all traction in the algo. Is this in my head or are others experiencing the same thing? My channel is very small

I have a long form based channel about finance and social issues. It seems to me like YouTube is doubling down on shorts so when i don’t post any shorts my traction takes a nose dive. Whenever you search any topic these days the first thing that comes up is shorts! Even if you’re looking for a tutorial shorts comes up first.

Anyways i really want my long form to do well but not sure if shorts hurts or helps it’s super mixed for me.. oh the shorts are basically chopped up clips of long.

What are your experiences so far?
