Headphones

So my boss has made it very clear that going forward, no headphones, even when we are closed or it’s final warning.

I literally cannot get through the morning without a podcast, I’ve done it for 5 years now. Every morning.
Playing music through a speaker is allowed but I’m not gonna blare my true crime podcasts for everyone to hear. So I’m wondering

Is there anything I can do or any product I can buy that will make it so I can ? I know it’s a stupid issue to harp on but I hate the silence, I don’t wanna be in my thoughts all day. At the end of the day it’s not really worth my job to be wearing headphones and stuff. I’m just kinda pissed off about it bc I’m always aware, it never has affected my performance.

New Start Time

My store recently began our new start time of 7:30a last week. We’ve all been LOVING it (I say sarcastically). I’m so tired of our hours being cut and I want Aldi to stop putting a store in every damn city. Most of the Aldi’s in my area are 10-15 minutes apart. What’s the point? They opened another 10 minutes down the road from us late last year and it cut our business in half. The new store also isn’t as busy as they thought they’d be. We’re down to two people closing which sucks and the third opener leaves at 11:30a most of the time now.

Just wanted to rant honestly. A lot of my coworkers are also frustrated. I barely get over 30 hours most weeks now. Anyone else having similar issues with hours and business being slow?

Average warehouse brain

Why can warehouse get away with literally anything as long as the pallets are done. I’d be fired if I caused over $100 a day in damages

I do not understand why DSM'S are so far behind on thinking and logic

I'm an RSM and today another RSM was in charge for the first time in the morning, so it was decided for me to be there just to help them out and guide them. Now since it's the day before snow season (here in Australia it gets weirdly hectic) and on Thursday, we managed to build all the snow stuff beforehand. Incredibly easy. Now luckily we had 5 people so we got everything done before 8 (Freezer, Bread etc).

A pet peeve of mine is everytime there's 5 people, the logic of the managers is to send someone home, but this week shouldn't be an issue for the OE, mainly because it can be explained as "oh we have alot of stuff to prepare", it also helps us fix and tidy and condense specials so EASILY. and we did do that. Around 25 tables condensed, our old specials reduced/write off etc. And it's all so clean flat out done in 2 hours.

low and behold the most lazy and power hungry dsm in history walks in and says " nah this ruins our plans" like whatchu mean?? At night there's going to be 4 managers (YES MANAGERS, 2 DSM'S, 1 asm and 1 RSM rostered) so the easiest thing for them to do is to, rerun anything else like alcohol, other items, date checking and all that. I built the damn tables yesterday. it was supposed to be my week off, preparing for my uni stuff and the logic is astounding. DMS'S and even ASM'S don't think ahead at all. The OE is fine, hours are good. and the RSM who is in charge had the idea and worked her butt off for it.

That DSM is currently on like a watch out list because the way he works and overall professionalism is bleh and the asm is something else.

Cashier vs Associate tasks

Context: I have recently transferred to an ALDI store in a different state. I have noticed that part time cashiers at my new store are required to work curbside, pull/refill product, basically performing associate tasks. I am confused by this because I thought cashiers were only responsible for cashiering and having their area clean/organized. I believe they are paid less than associates, (correct me if I am wrong, at my old store they were paid a $1 less).

My question is, how is this allowed? Or is this allowed? I have never worked or helped out at a store that had cashiers performing those tasks. If you’re going to make them work like an associate, they should be paid as an associate.

Note: Not every ALDI has a cashier position, certain regions do, others don’t, but out here and my previous state they did.

Has anyone seen these yet?

I saw this in the customer subreddit and am worried. This only works at stores like Costco and Sam’s where customers literally PAY to shop there. No fkin way is George the local steak thief going to get caught by scanning his bubble gum receipt. All the steaks are in his pants!

Is this a bad sign???

So for context, I am a part time cashier and I started at the beginning of February. I had consistently been getting 15-20 hour shifts, but the past 6 weeks I have been getting no more than 10 hours a week. My availability is wide open with no restrictions. My question is what should I do?

Smart Vision on SCOs

Does anyone know what the "Smart Vision" or "Smart View" option on the SCO does or is supposed to do? Saw it was added a few weeks before my last day and clicking it just said the function wasn't supported. I was just curious what it does.

Can I use my sick pto hours towards my vacation

I have almost 40 hours of sick time and about 2 hours left of vacation. I was wondering if it would be okay to ask my manager to input those sick hours into the days I requested off . I’m just not sure if it’s in policy or just depends on your manager.

customers with children

Like is it just me tha gets frustrated???? I swear some customers with children act like they’re above else. They’ll have two kids sitting in the cart, leaving barely any room for me to put their groceries, and won’t even acknowledge it. Half the time I’m scared I’ll accidentally hit their kid while trying to do my job.

Then there are the parents with babies who take forever to load their stuff onto the belt while the entire line backs up. I finally started using a separate basket instead of their cart if they’re still unloading groceries because it slows everything down, but somehow they still get attitude with me for it — even though they’re the ones holding up the line. I had one guy get so mad at me for using a different cart that he called me an asshole and threw a whole hissy fit, like I’m somehow responsible for his children. I just stared at him blankly because what even was I supposed to say to that?

What also irritates me is when people put their newborn babies in the large cart section where groceries are being loaded. I’m not comfortable with that at all because accidents can happen so easily. Another thing that drives me crazy is when people bring a stroller with no bags, no box, nothing, and expect me to load all their groceries from the stroller while holding up the entire line. I’ve started making them stay by the cart and put the groceries into the stroller themselves because it’s honestly ridiculous when they could’ve just brought a bag or box to make things easier and faster for everyone.

I don’t know, that’s just my little rant for today. It stresses me out how entitled some parents act. And don’t get me wrong — I love children. They aren’t the issue at all. It’s the parents themselves. I also want to add the parents that let there kids do whatever 🫩 one time this kid started running on the bags of soil and you can hear the mom screaming at him and gives up because he keeps running on the soil I just couldn’t believe it

If your opening manager calls off, can you leave?

My opening manager called off and the SM won’t be there for an extra hour. Is there any policy about being able to leave if nobody shows up?
