medical advice for my mother

This often used to happen that when she took certain medicine or anti biotic she would get a reaction. We would take her to ER where they would give her a reverse drip I guess.

Now, few weeks back she visited a psychiatrist, (she has a depression and anxiety bg), she took the medicines and felt like a reaction. Something was going from her stomach to her heart. She was cold and felt hard to breath and unable to speak or walk. She was taken to heart they checked the BP it was 150/90 they took ecg eco everything was normal they gave her sleeping pills and sent home.

At home again she felt the same feeling. Sleeping pills weren't helping her sleep.

Tablets were Sert and Nervin.

Then we took her to OMI karachi physician where she was examined properly. Was given the same sert and nervin but different doses and some stomach meds (stomocol and ulsanic)

It's been almost 4 weeks, her anxiety is fixed to some extent. Dr has advised her to sleep all day and not do anything. But her stomach isn't doing well. She's feeling nauseous and constipated and not having appetite.

Today again she went cold and naseous and we took her to ER there they've given vomit drip and something. But what's going wrong?

She's 48.

Is someone a medical professional here? Who can help or guide please.

Going to the hospital alone for the first time, what to expect?

I'm 16f and have had bad bloating and pelvic cramps that are untypical for me for about 2 weeks. I've been incredibly anxious and nervous all the time because i have health anxiety and worry a lot that it might be something bad. On top of it all, I'll be going on a one week vacation on a rather remote island 800km from where I live in a few days. So basically there wouldn't be any access to a good healthcare for a week if something were to worsen or happen. I'm considering going to the hospital in the next few days before the vacation just to make sure everything is alright, but I'm very anxious at the idea of going since I've never been there alone and my guardians can't accompany me. I'm scared they might perform examinations on me that I've never done before. I know this is very dumb lol but I'm feeling so unsure and scared

Update

I haven’t posted here in a while because I’ve been trying different avenues on getting better. My main symptoms was I felt off in a little bit weak in March 2025. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s from there. I started levothyroxine August 2025 I started noticing muscle twitches and even more weakness. I ended up getting a clean EMG in October 2025 and then in November 2025 from two separate neurologist, the first one showed fasciculations in my lower extremities. The second one was normal. Both nerve conductive studies were normal. I’ve been dealing with full body weakness since September 2025 we are now in August 2026. I’m so weak I’ve been out of work because of it my legs get super stiff. My quads are very weak. My shoulders are weak, and I experience on and off like muscle twitching, flareups flare, and I’ll notice more weakness in that area. When these twitches initially happened, they were my thighs. My legs have overall gotten a lot weaker in a year. I’ve been less mobile. I feel like my knees are always collapsing. My neurologist have been trying to treat me for a variant of unknown significance in the SC4NA Gene, which is a form of Periodic Paralysis which he thought was paramyotonia finding out from a genetics specialist that this variant is only 5% pathogenic and I’ve been treated with Diamox and doesn’t really seem to show any advantages. I went to the university of Penn med and saw a Dr Lauren Elman who is the MDA clinic chairperson and was the head of the ALS clinic for a while at the university of Pennsylvania along with a professor of neurology . We had about an 80 minute chat about everything going on. I passed a clinical. I was able to squat get back up walk on my heels and toes strengthen my hands she said my muscle bulk was normal. My reflexes were normal little brisk on my knees my walk was normal. My tongue was strong. Showed her the two previous EMGs that were done and she told me hand to God. She does not think I have ALS. That I do not have ALS after a year I would show worse symptoms or at least a clinical weakness or clinical failure. She said I had peripheral nerve hyperexcitability syndrome. With a root cause of possibly from Hashimoto’s back in March 2025, causing an idiopathic syndrome. She really only prescribed tonic water at night about 7 ounces and to try to start PT. Since then, I have felt extreme amount of weakness definitely in my legs if I start driving, and I hold my arm up too long on a steering wheel, my arm can hurt for a week the shoulder could feel weak for a week. She didn’t think it was medically necessary for another EMG. She said I show no signs of atrophy and my CK levels have always been in a low normal like 60 or 70. I’m very limited on what I can do. I’m just tired easily walking and I feel internal vibrations. I get tremors sometimes, but the biggest thing is the weakness mainly in like the biceps and in the thighs I’ve had work ups like you wouldn’t believe I’ve seen every single doctor. You can imagine besides a gynecologist and I’m a male. How do I get this fear out of my head I feel like I’m just waiting for a clinical failure. I’m completely exhausted almost all the time. Should I demand another EMG? I’ve noticed a lot of younger males especially that were physically active Seem to progress a lot slower, and don’t show clinical weakness for a while. Please if anyone has any insight, please let me know.

I need some advice

I'm not sure how to start this, but I think I should introduce myself first, I'm sorry if this is long and more of a rant but I really need help, I don't use reddit much so bare with me.

Hi, I'm a 16yr old girl, I have a healthy weight (120-140lbs) and bmi, I don't have any diagnosed physical conditions (unless an innocent heart murmer counts), a pharmacist told me she believes I may have orthopedic hypotension based on a few blood pressure tests. I seem to have some problems with my GI tract but no one seems to know what is wrong, I guess all I'm looking for here is some reassurance and help with navigating all of this.

When I was younger (below 12) I constantly had infections, ear infections, tonsillitis, simple colds, etc. I was sick often. it was never a big problem because I could get antibiotics and it would eventually pass, I only feel like this is relevant because some of my newer symptoms may be related with my immune system (I have no idea how accurate that is, it's just something I've heard)

I'm not sure how or if this can be connected, but I would also complain about struggling to breathe when I was laying on my back, it wasn't super intense, but it bothered me.

Around age 12-13 I became weaker, my mental health depleted around this time and I had some big life changes. During this time I was feeling lightheaded and dizzy when walking up and down stairs, it wasn't extremely bad, and never caused me to faint. It was just a scary thing that I was experiencing.

I was able to finish my meals at this time, but I felt full every time I ate.

Through ages 13-16 everything has seemed to have gotten worse. Now when I eat, I feel full very early on. I get severely nauseous after I eat, then a while after eating I'll have pain, there is no specific spot though, anywhere in my abdomen really. It has gotten so incredibly difficult to enjoy life like this.

I have also dealt with blood in my stool as well, I went to the ER a few times but every single time I have been dismissed, all of my tests come back normal (ultrasounds, x-rays and physical). it's never the same, ranging in color and other variables (black and tar like, bright red, dark red, etc)

I went to my family doctor and she said she wanted to do a stool test and blood work, both of those came back clean, I went to the ER two times after I saw her, finding blood in my stool again, once again, the ER didn't find anything.

My doctor sent me to a GI, sadly, she has done little to none to help in this process. I told her everything, and the doctor gave her my files. She gave me acid reflux medication, it didn't help at all. I asked her about an endoscopy, she said I don't need it since all of my other tests have come back normal.

Eventually I ended up in the ER again, for the same reason as all of the other times, I already knew they weren't going to find anything or do anything about it, and I was right. The ER doctor told me I needed to see a GI, I told her I already had one, she told me I had to ask her for an endoscopy.

So the following week, I contacted my GI, I told her what happened at the ER and she said she needed to debrief with her team and she would get back to me, then I got a call about 1-2 weeks later, once again she said she wasn't going to do it.

I'm just so tired of of going to these appointments if they aren't going to find or do anything. I don't want to feel sick anymore. I don't know what's wrong with me.

Any personal stories or advice or literally anything will help, I'm desperate for answers.

If you have any questions, please ask.

Why Do I Get A Headrush When Drinking Water In Front Of A Fan?

When I drink water, whether it's a sip or a gulp in front of a fan I get a very big, genuine headrush that makes me not breathe for a second. I've tried to explain this to some of my friends/coworkers, but nobody relates and says they don't know what I'm talking about.

Does anyone know what this is? It happens literally every time. At work I have a small fan on my station, and I have to turn away from it when I sip water or I'll be gasping and get that light headed feeling.

Why is my PTH high?

What reason would I have high PTH, normal calcium, vitamin D and bone density if not hyperparathyrodism? PCP says I don't have it because my calcium is normal. I have a follow up with an endocrinologist next month, just trying to do as much research as possible so I can advocate for myself properly. I'm getting my kidneys checked out next week.

PTH: 109
Calcium: 8.7
Corrected Calcium: 9.2
Vitmain D: 60.1

Idk what I’m experiencing??

Hi everyone,

Sometimes when I eat, particularly savory and/or heavy food like dairy or greasy stuff, I get a sudden feeling of disgust and nausea (last time his was triggered I was eating greasy Brussels sprouts with bacon). A couple of times I have started gagging and almost thrown up. Any food around me or the thought of it just becomes gross and the thought of eating makes me more nauseous. I don’t think it’s acid reflux, because I don’t have any pain. Not sure if it’s food aversion or what. Just seeing if anyone else also experiences this? Or what you think it might possibly be? Anytime I look on Google all that comes up is acid reflux. This also doesn’t happen super often, maybe once every couple of months, if that.

Moved 3000km away from home and no idea how to do doctors here, any advice if this is worth trying to get an appointment here yet?

hi all - I have no idea how medical works here and obviously my regular doctor isn’t here, so I need a hand working out of this is serious and I should figure out the doctors here or if I’m in my head again.

19 female

- notpregnant (no way, unless it’s Jesus)

- no period 2 months. usually it’s 28-52 days, but this is very late and out of my cycle. it’s irregular but predictable if that makes sense? had spotting after one month which is weird

- dry cough for the past week feels like I’m coughing up a lung

- hormonal seeming acne that I normally get around my period (that I don’t have still)

- I donated blood and passed out. I think it was low blood sugar but. maybe? but I have stats for that 125/70 blood pressure and Haemoglobin (I didn’t do med I have no idea the spelling here) 144 g/l.

- very tried and general cold symptoms

im pretty fit (try and walk 6km a day) I swim, run and cycle. I’m mentally active too.

just it’s been worrying me. especially the lack of period. I’ve had change and stress but not nearly as much as I’ve had in the past and I’ve never missed a period then…

thanks so much for any help!!

Should I get tonsillectomy?

I’m a 23 year old male. I’ve had my fair share of strep growing up, probably about once a year or at least some type of severe illness every year. Never had a major issue with my throat or tonsils even when I had strep the pain was manageable and I could still swallow and talk. However, that all changed this year. First episode happened in March with strep and it was so severe I couldn’t talk/swallow. Luckily I didn’t have a fever or really any other symptoms than my throat pain and just feeling run down. But, Tonsils were almost touching they were so large and had to go to the ER to get IV antibiotic and steroids. After about a week I was better.

The next episode was in July. Same symptoms with throat but the sickness was much worse (103 fever, severe body aches, throwing up). Throwing up was so difficult because my tonsils/uvula were so swollen so I had a narrow airway and I really had to strain to get it out. This was terrifying and the thought of going through that again scares me. The only reason I didn’t go to ER is because our family friend doctor helped get me into his practice and gave me steroids/antibiotics and a IV of fluids because I was so dehydrated. He saw my tonsils and immediately said “you should probably get those out”. I want to note this doctor didn’t have to tools to test me for flu/strep/covid or anything so he just treated me for strep. Which I believe it was because after a few rounds of antibiotics I felt much better very fast.

Once I recovered from that I talked with an ENT and he said he’d be happy to take them out and said it was honestly up to me. Which doesn’t make me feel better because I was hoping he’d give me a definite answer of whether I should do it or not. He said I’m on the lighter side of throat infections as it’s only been 2 but he said 2 ER visits in one year is pretty intense (yes I know technically I didn’t go to the ER the second time, but I would’ve if that doctor didn’t help me).

So here I come to Reddit to ask your thoughts. I know how terrible recovery is, especially at my age, but the thought of never having a severe throat infection like those again seems so worth it. And like I said earlier, I get strep about once a year anyways but only this year has it been this bad.

Recovery from dehydration

I got dehydrated day before yesterday and experienced dizziness and unsteady walking.

And even though I rested all day and drank a lot of water yesterday,  and slept well last night,

I am not still feeling “ok” again yet and my walking is still unsteady. My BP was high yesterday and again this morning. Normally. It’s LOW. I’m a senior…and it’s been so hot.

Not asking for medical advice - just wanting to know other seniors' experiences.

22F — sudden extreme bloating, cramping, nausea, headaches, and gas for a week

I’m 22F, generally healthy and fit. For the past week, I’ve suddenly been extremely bloated, to the point that my stomach feels painfully distended. I haven’t changed anything about my diet, exercise routine, or lifestyle that I can think of.

Along with the bloating, I’ve been having:
- Abdominal cramping/pain
- A lot of gas
- Nausea
- Headaches
- A general feeling that something is off

I went to a clinic, but they basically just confirmed that I was bloated, said they could hear movement in my stomach, and recommended Tums. They didn’t really ask me any questions about my menstrual cycle, birth control, bowel movements, etc., which left me feeling like it wasn’t really investigated.

I’m on birth control and normally don’t get a period. I did have some breakthrough bleeding recently. I took a home pregnancy test, and it was negative, so I don’t think I’m pregnant.

The bloating is the biggest concern because it’s much more severe than normal and actually hurts. It's been going on for about a week with no obvious explanation.

Has anyone experienced something similar? I’m not looking for a diagnosis from Reddit, but I’d especially appreciate hearing what ended up causing it for you or what kind of doctor/tests helped you figure it out.

Sleep problems + Weakness consistently triggered by exercise — looking for advice

I’m an 18-year-old male (180cm, 65kg) and have had recurring sleep problems for around 1.5–2 years. They started after an illness, but they come in phases rather than being constant.

The main issue is staying asleep. I usually fall asleep normally, but during bad phases I wake up 2–5+ times per night and sometimes struggle to fall back asleep. The sleep is also not really refreshing. I can also get brain fog, fatigue and dizziness after several nights of poor sleep. Valerian helps a bit, other supplements do not help.

The really strange part is the connection to exercise:

Running, football and strength training consistently make my sleep worse.

The effect can be delayed by 1–3 days and gets worse over time as i push through.

After 2–3 weeks without sports, my sleep improves significantly (usually 7–8 hours though still wake up once or twice per night).

Walking, hiking and very light activity don't seem to cause the same problem.

When I start exercising regularly again, I initially feel fine, but after several sessions my sleep deteriorates and fatigue/performance get worse.

My performance is also effected, only at the beginning i feel fit, then i'm weak and slow despite actually being athletic

I sometimes also experience prolonged muscle soreness, a tense/restless feeling, dizziness when standing and increased nighttime heart rate.

Bloodwork has shown relatively low ferritin, relatively low TRT (probably caused by bad sleep), and elevated eosinophils/monocytes.

It just doesn't make sense to exercise for me since i feel worse, don't make progress despite correct form and nutrition and sleep like shit. (Btw: I eat ~ 2400kcal without exercising and while exercising i eat ~ 2800 kcal per day)

Has anyone experienced something similar, where exercise consistently causes delayed worsening of sleep, while prolonged rest improves it? I’m really frustrated because after a year of trying everything, i quit sports because i feel better and can enjoy everday life again. But i can't play football with my friends anymore as it leaves me in a state of tireness, insomnia and weakness over time.

Looking for advice on stomach issues

18f, 5”2, known gallbladder polyp, PoTS

For the past maybe 2 months (approx) I have been having all over abdominal pain. I have also been experiencing a mix of constipation lasting 2 weeks at a time and diarrhoea afterwards. I’ve also been getting random bruises without explanation all over my body and rashes everywhere aswell. I don’t know if it’s something that I’m eating but I’ve also been waking up in the middle of the night absolutely covered in sweat and having to change my pyjamas. I’m starting to get concerned just because of the duration of this, chrones disease and ceoliac disease were both previously mentioned to me but nothing was ever diagnosed.

Sudden health issues

I am a 25-year-old female dealing with lingering right-sided physical symptoms that started over two specific days in May. On May 4th while working, I was feeling very tired and took a few deep yawns; during the last yawn, it felt like something pulled or popped in my throat, leaving a continuous tight, lump-like sensation. This lump sensation was so intense that I was unable to eat solid food for a whole month, relying entirely on liquids. After about a month, I was slowly able to start eating solids again and can eat solid foods now. However, I hyperfixate on my throat so much that I get discouraged while eating, often feeling like my jaw function is about to stop working mid-chew and making me panic that I am going to choke. The very next day after the throat event, May 5th, while sitting in my car, things cascaded into a sudden wave of heaviness, density, and fatigue down the right side of my neck, shoulder, and arm.
Leading up to this, I had been engaging in intense daily strength training before and after work, taking 5 to 10 grams of creatine daily with heavy water intake. My health baseline includes uncontrolled high cholesterol for about five years, along with hypothyroidism that went untreated for five years and a recent diagnosis of Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI), both of which I have just recently started treating with levothyroxine and an estradiol patch. I also had a major right-sided dental issue: tooth #4 had an old root canal with an infection and fracture that eventually required a deep cleaning, extraction, and bone graft on July 18th. I noticed that my right-sided facial stiffness flared up severely right before my dental visits and actually improved notably after the tooth was extracted.
The sudden onset on May 5th triggered severe fear that I was experiencing a stroke or TIA. I deal with very bad health anxiety, so I know that my right-sided facial differences feel completely real and authentic to me. However, when it comes to my right leg and arm, I feel a bit iffy because there are days when I can go through my routine, focus on things only lightly, and not really notice anything at all. Because of the constant fear, I find myself compulsively checking and testing the right side of my body throughout the day.
To investigate the throat and neck issues, I saw an ENT who put a camera down my nose and found nothing abnormal. A CT scan of my neck was completely fine, and both my Modified Barium Swallow study and Barium Esophagram came back entirely normal, showing clear swallowing mechanics, no aspiration, and normal esophageal motility. On July 28th, I also had non-contrast 3-Tesla MRI scans of my brain and cervical spine. The 3T Brain MRI was unremarkable, showing normal brain tissue with no evidence of stroke, old ischemic scars, or demyelination. My Cervical Spine MRI revealed a straightening of the normal cervical curvature with no subluxation, indicating severe muscle spasms pulling my neck straight. The spinal cord was normal, but the scan identified disc bulges at C4-C5 and C5-C6 without central spinal canal or foraminal stenosis, meaning the discs are bulged but not causing severe, dangerous nerve root compression.
I am preparing for an upcoming neurology appointment to review these results. Since my brain MRI confirmed no structural damage, I am planning to ask my doctor about objective electrical and nerve tests—such as a Facial Nerve Conduction Study, Blink Reflex test, or EMG—to directly measure nerve signaling on my right side. Has anyone here dealt with something similar, known anyone who has gone through this, or can offer any advice on managing these physical symptoms alongside severe health anxiety?

Are there medications to clear up blocked ejaculatory ducts in men?

I'll be 61 in a few days and recently, I've been producing maybe 1/4th of the usual volume when I have an orgasm. I've been taking a Flowmax med for the past few years but this is a new development. I still have full sensation but I don't feel as if I'm clearing the decks, so to speak.
I couldn't care less about my sperm count or being fertile but if there's a non-surgical option to treat this problem and clear things up, I'd consider it.

Need help figuring out what’s wrong with me and what to do lol

(tw for ed talk.)
16F (cis female). Around 5’6”-5’7”ish, my weight is around 100-101lbs most likely. I take no medication, just supplements but due to ADHD and recovering depression I’m quite inconsistent with them, haven’t taken them all at once in a while. Don’t smoke, don’t drink either save the occasional sip. Here’s the situation:
\- I’m recovering from two things: disordered eating and depression. I’ve bedrotted for ages barely moving out of my bed. I’ve tried eating more recently. (I never ate too much to begin with)
\- First and foremost I’ve been experiencing a lot of pain these past few days and it’s driving me nuts. Most prominent area is directly in my stomach (like the stomach sack part) in my left hand side rib area. It’s a stabbing pain that hasn’t fully gone away and I just want it to stop. Often times these days I’ve woke up with a really bad stomach ache. I get stomach cramping a lot. This is all within the past few days. Another place that’s hurting is my left calf. The outer side mainly. And it feels like I’m losing weight despite making an effort to eat more which is really concerning. My heart/rib around my heart is popping out more than ever and my heart has like… mini palpitations sometimes (I’m a hypochondriac so take this with a pinch of salt) only sometimes though this is a stretch lol but just in case. Pain in the lower part of my ribs. That really hurts, burns almost. Just a lot of pain for no reason. My whole body aches sometimes.
\- I’m on my period and it’s extremely light, and it’s really really dark. Almost purple. Mostly brown black. There’s still red blood but that’s mostly what I see. Maybe I don’t change my pad enough lol because when I changed it in a shorter amount of time it was red. But earlier on in my period it was purple brown, literally some of it I swear looked black and like… slushy like almost (this is very tmi sorry).
\- CONSTANT twitching. My eyes (I also have lots of floaters and random lights in my eye vision), and all around my body but Idk.
\- Due to me being a hypochondriac (I’m also autistic if that helps with anything) I constantly fear I’m dying ESPECIALLY at night. I’m scared to go to sleep in case I die in my sleep. Last night I was shaking and feeling so weak and light headed. When I was walking my calves felt like stilts. So thin and weak. They weren’t this weak even when I was at the height of my disordered eating. I was so scared. I took my iron since I might be (slightly) anemic. I ended up going to sleep. But I feel very groggy and crappy a lot of the time when I wake up. I feel crappy all around these days.
\- Trouble digesting. Feeling like I’m gonna throw up a lot of the time.
Idk these are the main things. So frustrating and scary. Idk what to do lol. Thanks for reading this is the gist of it

Hypersalivation will make me k*ll myself

For the last month, I have been experiencing hypersalivation, and it is driving me insane!

I should mention that I am a very healthy 20-year-old. I train a lot in martial arts and generally eat healthy. It first started about a month ago when my friends talked me into trying weed for the first time. I tried it and had a bad first experience. My vision was blurry, I didn’t feel well in general, and that’s when the hypersalivation first started.

Before this, I had never experienced anything like it. I had so much saliva in my mouth, but I couldn’t vomit. My stomach and everything else generally feels normal. I just have this constant buildup of saliva in my mouth, and it’s really difficult to stay focused. It also feels like it’s causing me to have brain fog.

When it first started, the first 2–3 times, it would go away after about 30–40 minutes. However, the last two times, it has lasted for an entire week.

idk if its because of weed or something. Something else might be causing it but one thing I know is it all started after I tried it.

The only thing I find relieving is pure ginger tea or simply eating ginger. Other than that, nothing seems to help—not even medications.

!!! Couple days ago the saliva stopped after being there for 1 week but now after a couple days it came back. I just woke up I didn't eat or drink anything went outside got in a train and the hyper salvation came back.

I should also mention that I generally don’t have trouble eating while experiencing the excessive saliva. However, sometimes, especially in the morning, eating something feels unpleasant, almost as if I’m actually going to throw up. Once I start eating, though, I usually have no further trouble finishing my meal.

I’ve also noticed that the hypersalivation gets worse during train or car rides.

If anyone even has a slight clue about what the hell is wrong with me please help.

EDIT: whenever I have Hypersalivation my neck and jaw area is tensed up really bad.
