EB2 I765 and i-485 at NBC since biometrics. Visa expiring soon. Anyone in similar situation?

Timeline:

I-485 RD: 04/01/2026

Biometrics: 04/20/2026

Had 3 FTAs on same day of biometrics

1 silent updates on May 11

Asked Emma and they confirmed the case is still at NBC

PD is current. My visa and stem opt expiring soon in 1st week of July. should i wait or put Congressional inquiry ?

Anyone else in the same boat with NBC? Especially employment-based cases with no movement after biometrics.

Do i485 yourself or go with a lawyer?

I recently had my I-140 approved with Chen (ROW) and am currently preparing my I-485. My case is straightforward: no dependents and no criminal background. I want to retain Chen for the I-485, but I know they will take their sweet time because the ROW is current.

So what do you recommend? I'd rather not do it alone, for I know I will miss some signature somewhere.

Travel on H1B and AOS approved

If I travel with a valid H1B and have been approved for a GC, can I enter with a valid H1B?

I am worried about what will happen if I don't have a GC on hand, and I heard that an H-1 B will be invalid if I get my green card.

Interview was Scheduled

Hello, my interview was scheduled for I-485 in June 2026. I am wondering if I can rescheduled it on an earlier date than what USCIS did initially. I need to visit urgently to my home. If anyone has any feedback, I would appreciate your input. I know the number I am supposed to call. I just want to know if it would have negative impact if I call. Also, did anyone get lucky in this matter?

Got silent update when my 140 got approved

Hi everybody,
I will appreciate if you can help me understand this:

I got silent update exactly when my 140 got approved, I filed both 140 and 485 together. So, is this the silent update people are talking about here or it is a different one?

Also if you can help me predicting the timeline that will be extremely helpful. I filed both EB-2 I-140 and 485 form on March 20 and got approval email May 16. The same time I got this silent update on 485.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I-485: Primary applicant case at NBC but Derivative applicant case transferred to Field office

Our case details:

EB2 NIW I-140: PD: 09/29/2025

I-485 Receipt Date: 03/20/2026

Biometrics completed: 04/22/2026

Today (05/15/2026), I contacted the USCIS live agents & they confirmed that my case (primary) is at NBC while my wife's case (derivative) has moved to our local Field office (CLEVELAND). Both of our interviews are marked as waived. Are the different locations of the cases normal? Did anyone has similar experience? Would be very happy to discuss. Thank you.

Finally Approved! PD 2012, RD Feb 2026

Approved today.

Sharing my full EB2 NIW I-485 timeline/data point for others tracking NY FO cases and FTA patterns.

EB2 NIW-based I-485
Block: IOE09357*****

A few observations since I know many people are closely tracking FTAs and silent updates:

  • I never received FTA1.
  • 3rd FTA0 came on 5/13.
  • The 5/13 FTA0 had the event timestamp/date matching the same pattern as the earlier biometrics FTA0 updates.
  • After the 5/13 FTA0, I received repeated silent updates until approval.
  • Primary applicant never received EAD/AP approval before GC approval

The silent updates were mentally exhausting to track, but in my case they did appear to indicate active movement.

Full timeline:

  • RD: 2/25/2026
  • Biometrics completed: 3/18/2026
  • 2x FTA0: 3/16/2026
  • Silent update on I-485: 3/24, 3/30, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13, 5/14, 5/15
  • Silent update on I-765 and I-131: 4/21/2026
  • Derivative EAD/AP approved: 4/2026
  • Case transferred to NY FO: ~4/29/2026 (emma said "New York" so I am assuming its NYC)
  • 3rd FTA0: 5/13/2026
  • Approved: 5/16/2026

Its been a long journey to get here tbh. Elated that its finally over. Wish you all the very best. The process does work but its not as predictable as you would think. I pondered a lot over these events, silent updates etc. only to realize there isn't much of a pattern to derive here. ChatGPT and Gemini can provide modest help at best.

April 20-21 filers. Did anyone get biometrics?

My I-485 has a receipt date on April 21. I have not received any biometrics notice and nothing in the document so far. I was expecting the document to show up on a Saturday morning because that is what I heard the documents are populated. Has anybody from the April 20-23 receipt date got biometrics. Please update.

Biometrics

Hello all,

My husband (primary) and I (derivative) submitted our I-485s with RD on April 6th. He completed his biometrics appointment on April 20 and I have not received my biometrics notice yet. Is this normal? I also received my receipt of payment for I-485 2 weeks after he received his receipt.

Please let me know if any of you have experienced this.

Thank you!

Birth certificate translator signature

Hi all,

I already submitted AoS, but today I read about new rules about signatures on forms and it made me think about birth/marriage certificate translations I submitted. I used one of translation agencies here in the US. Translation itself is good and person who did translation is obviously from my home country. But certificate was signed with one of those generic signatures from word/pdf readers, whatever they used. There is a full name, address, phone, agency info and everything, but now I wonder if there will be problems with this kind of signature. Should I reach out to agency to ask, as I found recommendation for them here on reddit and they did advertise as uscis friendly? I would appreciate advice. All other forms we signed with our wet signatures.

I-485 Details:

  • ROW, non 75 country
  • DIY Application
  • No EAD or AP application
  • I-140 PD: 9/25/2024
  • I-485 Received: 2/25/2026

  • All silent updates: 4/9, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13

  • 3rd FTA0 on 5/6
  • FTA1 on 5/6

  • Dependent was also approved exactly 1 hour later

Thank you everyone for this long and tiring journey. I’m wishing everyone a quick approval. Good luck, everybody!
