Anyone running Sydney Marathon alone? We’ll be there cheering! 🏃‍♂️

Hey everyone! My wife and I will be coming along to spectate and cheer for the Sydney Marathon runners.
If anyone is running alone, travelling to Sydney solo, or simply wouldn’t mind some extra support, we’d love to cheer for you! 🙌

I’m an amateur Ironman triathlete myself, so I know how much a bit of encouragement can help when the legs start hurting 😅

We’re thinking of making some fun personalised signs too, so if you’d like us to cheer for you, or be of any help or support, drop a comment or DM me!

Also, any experienced spectators here, what are the best spectator spots/zones?

Looking forward to seeing you all cross that finish line! Cheers!

What’s the weather?

To Sydney locals and ppl there..

How’s the weather?
Just doing last minute packing.. do I need a jacket/windbreaker? Or am I good with tshirts?

Running weather I think I’m ok. But non running weather don’t want to risk a cold.

TIA

Changing start times

Hello, it’s my first marathon and my friend and I are allocated in different groups (our fault for putting different estimated finish times) but we wanted to try run the marathon together. Historically, do they allow you to change your start to a later group for Sydney mara/world majors?

Early Start - Race Day

How to people prepare for the early start? For context I am running Sydney on 30 August, estimated start time is about 7:00 (I think), best practice recommends to get there 90 mins before. I also spend about 1.5 hours before any long run doing basic leg exercises, coffee breakfast etc. I am probably going to have to get up around 3:30am I think. Is this normal? Sleep is integral to everything, so do people do a circuit breaker the week of marathon prep? I.e. force the early rise and reset the body clock so you go to sleep earlier? First marathon, appreciate the advice.

Custom Bibs

Hi peeps, is there a way to check if I got a custom bib? I don’t remember if I registered for a custom one. Is it also still possible to request for a custom one?

Phone not in bag grop

Just read on the website that a race day bag drop is not possible, only at the expo up to the day before.

How do any of you take your phone on race day? Just leave it at home or store it safely somewhere else?
Won't wear my phone on me as I get irritated by it.

Where I'm staying is an hour away using public transport and guess that getting home after the finish will take a good 2-2.5 hours

Sydney Marathon Pop-ups, Shakeouts and more

Hi all,

was waiting a bit for the post and I am expecting a couple more announcements over the next few days. Namely, a popup by Furies Running in collaboration with Nike and Pace Athletic x Asics Pop-up.

Find all the details of everything happening here: http://marathon-weekend.com/sydney/2026/

I update the site continuously and whenever we find new events. I also just launched favorites so you can build your own calendar.

Let me know if I missed an event and I shall add it.

Traveling from US

I am traveling abroad for the first time in my life and wanted some help with packing. How do I travel with protein powder, salt stick capsules, and creatine? Do I have to pack the entire bottles? Does the same apply to vitamins and rx meds?

Any travel/packing tips would be extremely helpful!

Race day forecast looking amazing!

The 30th is showing 14C at the start with a light breeze. That's about as good as marathon weather gets.

I ran Sydney last year, so if it helps anyone: the climb at 12K that everyone worries about is smaller than the elevation chart makes it look, and the part that actually got me was the flat out-and-back after it. Happy to answer any course questions, two weeks out is when I start overthinking everything.

Also I pace for the NYC Marathon and I built a free tool that turns your goal time into km-by-km splits for this course with the forecast factored in. Can't post the link (the filter removed my last attempt) but it's called RITMO and it's in my profile.

Blessed with a sinus infection 2 weeks out 🫠

As the title says, I had a cold at the end of July that’s turned into a sinus infection. Symptoms have been for the last 7 days - blocked nose, nasal drip, facial pain, earache, a cough that has gone from dry to phlegm (sorry for the visual). A bit bummed as my training has gone really well, and am trying to reassure myself that nothing can be gained by pushing through in these last 2 weeks but so many things can go wrong.

I haven’t ran for the last week and am off to the Dr tomorrow. My hopes is I’ll be cleared to run, my goal was 5h 30 using a run/walk strategy 3:1 (I’m a slow girlie) so I’m certainly not going to be really pushing the limits on the day. But keen to hear if anyone has some advice, or can just manifest that this goes away ASAP so I’m fresh and healthy by Aug 30 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Difference between 2024 and 2026 course

Hi there!

I ran the Sydney Marathon in 2024 and enjoyed it a lot, but I remember it being hilly, especially around the 30th km where a lot of people were walking up a certain point. But I hear the course has gotten a little easier now. Any idea which part changed?

What happens if you can’t go on?

What actually happens if you need to be a DNF?

Like, let’s say your knee or ankle gives out, pull a hammy, calf etc and can’t go on, can’t walk the rest.

Do you just sit down on the track and someone comes to you?
