Does drinking alcohol cause cancer?

I've been researching a lot lately and wanted to bring something up that doesn't get enough time in wellness conversations: does drinking alcohol cause cancer? The short answer, according to major health organizations like the WHO and American Cancer Society, is yes, alcohol is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen, meaning there's strong evidence it causes cancer in humans.
I work with clients who are generally health conscious, they exercise, eat well, manage stress, but many of them still drink without thinking twice about it. So when the topic of does drinking alcohol cause cancer comes up in our sessions, there's often genuine surprise. People associate cancer risk with smoking or processed foods, but alcohol doesn't get the same cultural scrutiny, even though the evidence is pretty clear.
The cancers most strongly linked to alcohol consumption include mouth, throat, esophagus, liver, colon, and breast cancer. And the risk isn't limited to heavy drinkers. Even moderate and light drinking has been associated with increased risk for certain cancers, particularly breast cancer.
As wellness coaches, I think that we have a responsibility to have these conversations openly. Not to shame anyone's choices, but because informed clients make better decisions. Does drinking alcohol cause cancer in every person who drinks? No, the risk doesn't equal certainty. But it's a risk worth understanding..

Would love to hear how others in this community approach this topic with clients. Is it something you bring up proactively, or do you wait for clients to ask?

best fitness trackers 2026

got into fitness this year and started looking for a fitness tracker to track my workouts, sleep, stress levels, weight changes and health insights. Was searching for something accurate, comfortable and aesthetic.

tbh I got overwhelmed by so many options starting with smart rings ending up checking smart scales and pulse monitors. decided to divide everything into groups and check pros and cons of each device

Bands

Hume band

Pros:

-longevity-first design built to last years, not replaced annually

-no subscription required, all metrics and history included with purchase

-five-day battery with fast charge that tops up in under an hour

-minimal, screenless design that's lightweight and distraction-free

Cons:

-users report shorter-than-advertised battery life

WHOOP

Pros:

-battery lasts over 14 days, with a slide-on pack that charges it on-wrist

-wearable on wrist, bicep, or in WHOOP-compatible sleeves and apparel

-performance-tuned strain, recovery, and sleep metrics calibrated for athletes

Cons:

-membership only - the hardware stops working without an active subscription

-users criticize forced membership extensions on upgrades and rising prices

Smart rings

Oura Ring

Pros:

-high quality titanium build that survives daily wear, gym, and showers

-clean, well organized app with readable readiness, sleep, and activity scores

-chlorine-safe in pools, hot tubs, and salt water unlike some competitors

-sleep and HRV algorithms validated in peer-reviewed studies against lab equipment

Cons:

-membership required to unlock trends, tags, and most coaching features

-flat inner sensors can dig in and cause indentations or irritation during sleep

Ringconn

Pros:

-medical grade epoxy resin coating that's hypoallergenic and smooth on skin

-ultra-thin ~2 mm profile that fits under gloves and stacks with other rings

-waterproof to 100 m, safe for swimming, snorkeling, and showering

-long battery life of 7-12 days plus a charging case for multiple top-ups

Cons:

-most workouts must be started and stopped manually since auto-detection is limited

Smart scales

Body pod

Pros:

-detailed breakdown of muscle, fat, water, and bone instead of just body fat

-clean, modern app with trend charts, goal setting, and easy data export

-multi-user recognition automatically routes weigh-ins to the right profile

Cons:

-costs roughly 2-3 times more than a basic bluetooth scale, hard to justify for weight-only users

-advanced metrics need the app open during weigh-in for full accuracy

Withings

Pros:

-syncs effortlessly with apple health, google fit, strava, and most fitness apps

-pregnancy, athlete, and baby modes adjust the scale for special use cases

-reliable wi-fii sync that uploads readings instantly without a phone nearby

Cons:

-body composition readings swings day-to-day with hydration and time of day

-Premium features like heart health reports are accessible only if you have Withings+ subscription

Oxiline scale x pro

Pros:

-tracks 17+ metrics including visceral fat, metabolic age, and protein

-no subscription needed - you can use all the features without additional cost

-Lifetime warranty with indefinite replacement if the scale fails

Cons:

-app is functional but not as polished as Withings or Body Pod

Blood pressure and pulse oximeters

Oxiline pressure XS pro

Pros:

-clinically validated to ESH/AAMI protocols for doctor-office-level accuracy

-stores readings for multiple users with separate household profiles

-syncs cleanly to the Oxiline app with automatic timestamped uploads

-lifetime warranty with indefinite replacement

Cons:

-cuff size needs to be ordered correctly since wrong size affects accuracy

-app handles basics but lacks advanced trend analysis or deep integrations

Oxiline pulse XS pro

Pros:

-fast, accurate SpO₂ and pulse readings in about 8 seconds

-bright auto-rotating OLED display readable from any angle

-compact enough to fit in a pocket, glovebox, or hiking pack

-great for altitude trips, sleep checks, and post-illness monitoring

-lifetime warranty with indefinite replacement

Cons:

-Fingertip design only does spot checks, not overnight continuous monitoring

-no bluetooth on the base model, so readings must be logged by hand

Smartwatches

Withings scanwatch light

Pros:

-Looks like an actual analog watch, not a tech gadget

-30-day battery life, so you don't need to charge it everyday

-tracks sleep, heart rate, activity, menstrual cycle, and stress

-no subscription required for core features in the Health Mate app

Cons:

-no ECG or SpO₂ metrics on the light version

-small display only show short snippets, making full notifications impractical

Amazfit active 2

Pros:

-AMOLED display is bright and sharp that stays readable in direct sunlight

-built-in GPS and 160+ sport modes including padel, climbing, and rowing

-solid battery of about 10 days with normal notifications and occasional GPS

-works with both iPhone and Android with full features

Cons:

-Zepp app feels cluttered and integrates with fewer third-party platforms than Garmin or Apple Health

-heart rate accuracy during high-intensity intervals lags behind chest straps

If I had to pick just one setup, I would go with Hume Band for longevity and health insights without a need to pay for subscription, plus an Oxiline scale for body composition measurements. For athletes I would recommend choosing WHOOP because of recovery, strain, and sleep coaching. if you would rather wear something on your finger, Oura is the safe pick or RingConn if you don't want a subscription

anyone who is into fitness please share what setup is working for you?

best daily fiber supplement, what's worked for you?

I've been trying to figure out what the best daily fiber supplement is for someone who's just not great at eating enough vegetables. My digestion has been off for months and my wellness coach mentioned fiber as a starting point, but the options are a lot..

I've tried a couple of things here and there but nothing has stuck with me. Part of my problem is I forget to take things, and part of it is that some of the powders I've tried have a texture that really puts me off in the morning. I also keep reading many things about psyllium husk, inulin, prebiotic blends and I really have no idea which direction to go.

Has anyone here worked with a coach who helped them actually build fiber intake into their routine in a way that felt sustainable? I'm not even sure if the best daily fiber supplement route is the right move for me or if I should just be focusing on food sources first. Would love to hear what people's experiences have been, especially if you had a similar starting point.

how to get rid of hip dips because i am losing my mind

i have been absolutely fixated on how to get rid of hip dips for like the past two weeks and i genuinely cannot stop thinking about it 😭😭 it started because i tried on a bodycon dress for my friend's birthday party and just stood in the dressing room staring at myself for way too long like the kind of staring where the lighting is bad and you start noticing everything and then you cannot unnotice it ever again
so i was watching tiktoks on how to get rid of hip dips and now my fyp is literally nothing but workout videos and girls doing side lying leg raises and hip thrusts and i have been doing them every single day for two weeks straight 💀💀 my whole room smells like tiger balm at this point and my neighbors probably think something is wrong with me because i grunt a lot apparently
i bought a resistance band set off amazon (the expensive one obviously because i committed) and a foam roller and one of those little massage guns that is so loud it sounds like a dentist drill. i have been doing like forty minutes of glute work every night before bed and my hips look exactly the same. like not even a little bit different i am starting to think i am doing something wrong or maybe i just have the worst bone structure on the entire planet
i also started eating more protein because three separate tiktoks told me you cannot build muscle without it so now i am forcing down a greek yogurt every morning even though i genuinely hate greek yogurt and it makes me miserable every single time 💀💀 i have been doing this for fourteen days straight and i have not missed one day not even the day i had a fever
my friend told me hip dips are literally just how your skeleton is shaped and that no amount of side leg raises is going to move your bones and i did not want to hear that but also like.. she showed me this diagram of a pelvis and where the hip bone sits and honestly it made me want to cry a little in a very specific way
i have seen some girls on tiktok say heavy hip thrusts and bulgarian split squats are the only things that actually build enough muscle to fill them in and others say it is completely impossible no matter what you do and one girl said she got some kind of filler injected in there which sent me into a whole other tiktok spiral for about an hour, then i found a reddit thread that said the filler thing dissolves in like six months and now i do not know anything anymore
i also tried wearing different underwear and high waisted everything and honestly that helps a little visually but that feels like giving up??? like i want to actually fix it not just hide it under spandex for the rest of my life 😭
the dress is in two weeks btw. TWO WEEKS. i have fourteen days and a resistance band and a foam roller and a deep hatred of greek yogurt and i am doing my absolute best out here, HOW THE HELL to get rid of hip dips??
has anyone here actually seen a real visible difference from working out consistently or is my friend right and i need to just accept my skeleton and find a different dress 😭😭

What foods have butyrate in them? Trying to fix my gut and keep seeing this word everywhere

I've been interested on gut health lately, started with trying to fix some bloating issues and somehow ended up reading research papers about short-chain fatty acids. Cool. Normal.

Anyway, butyrate keeps coming up as like the golden child of gut health. My question is what foods have butyrate? Its supposed to be good for the gut lining, anti inflammatory, all that. But every article I find either says to eat more fiber or goes full PhD mode and loses me completely.
Can anyone break it down simply? What foods actually have butyrate or help your body produce it? I know butter has some so is that actually meaningful or just a fun fact? And is there a difference between eating foods that have it and foods that help your gut bacteria make it?

Im trying to eat better, not looking to buy 15 supplements. Any real experience is welcome

Is the healthiest yogurt for weight loss actually plain Greek?

I have been researching everyday nutritional plans online because I want to lose a few pounds before my sister's wedding next month. I am now trying to find the healthiest yogurt for weight loss and add it to my morning routine.
I bought a tub of Fage Total 0% Plain Greek Yogurt from the local Jewel Osco store  last Monday. I have been using a digital kitchen scale to measure out exactly 170 grams of it every single morning. I mixed in a tablespoon of organic flax seeds and a tiny splash of unsweetened almond milk to make the texture smoother.
I ate this exact breakfast mixture every day for two weeks straight. However, I got so bloated, and my weight even fluctuated upward by two pounds, which left me feeling deeply discouraged and anxious. I am trying to figure out if the healthiest yogurt for weight loss is supposed to cause this kind of painful digestive response or if my stomach is just too sensitive. I even tried switching to a dairy free oat milk version, but it tasted like watery chalk and made my morning cramps worse.
I read a few dietetic blogs suggesting that concentrated protein might be too heavy for my digestion early in the morning. Has anyone else experienced this kind of severe bloating with Greek yogurt, or should I just try to find a completely different brand?

how to remove skin tags in one night because i have a date tomorrow

i am having a full breakdown right now because i just noticed i have this little skin tag on my neck and i have a first date TOMORROW and i cannot stop staring at it in the mirror

so i went deep on tiktok at 1am watching videos about how to remove skin tags in one night and now i have seventeen tabs open and some people are saying to tie dental floss around it and some are saying apple cider vinegar and one girl said she used nail scissors and i almost passed out just reading that

i ran to my bathroom and i have tea tree oil and a bandaid and some dental floss and i am literally deciding if i should just do it myself tonight. i already put the tea tree oil on it twice because someone in the comments said that works overnight and now the skin around it is a little red which is probably fine??? i think???

the tag is not that big but it is RIGHT on my collarbone area and i just know i am going to be self conscious about it the whole date and keep touching my neck awkwardly 😭

has anyone actually tried any of these overnight methods and did they work or am i going to wake up with a worse situation than i started with???

Research for the best red light mask

At the start of the year I've been seeing more of the red light masks online. For starters, they had a very eye-catching look… but they also use targeted, UV-free light wavelengths to energize skin. They are best known for boosting collagen to reduce wrinkles, calming skin inflammation, and for speeding up tissue healing promoting smoother complexion. Sounded too good to be true, so decided to take a look at them with ambition to find the best red light masks all things considered. I think I found them..

Omnilux Contour: The dermatologist-recommended gold standard with strict FDA clearance and clinically proven anti-aging wavelengths.
Omnilux Men Led: Features an ultra-deep 1072nm wavelength specifically calibrated to penetrate thicker skin and facial hair.
Bon Charge red light: Offers the highest light density with 240 LEDs in an ultra-lightweight, low-EMF frame.

Omnilux Contour

A dermatologist-trusted, medical-grade mask backed by strict regulatory approvals and clinical-standard wavelengths.

Pros:

  • Certified and trusted: rigorously backed by safety certifications and highly recommended by professional dermatologists.
  • Excellent warranty: includes a generous 2-year warranty covering both the mask and the controller;
  • Flexible build: made from flexible, medical-grade silicone that easily conforms to facial contours.

Cons:

  • Frequent charging: the controller battery only lasts about 3 to 4 sessions per charge.
  • No eye protection: lacks integrated eye shields, and the lights can feel uncomfortably bright.
  • Hardware issues: user reviews occasionally note technical malfunctions or hardware defects.

Features:

  • Global clearances: fully FDA-cleared, CE-marked, and TGA-approved for safe home use.
  • Proven wavelengths: features the industry-standard, clinically researched 633nm red light and 830nm near-infrared light spectrum.

Omnilux Led Men Mask

Engineered to penetrate thicker skin and short facial hair by swapping standard red light for a deeper near-infrared spectrum. Ideal for broad jawlines or anyone with a thicker complexion.

Pros:

  • Calibrated for thicker skin: designed for deeper cellular energy delivery in skin that is up to 25% thicker.
  • Beard friendly: specialized infrared light easily penetrates stubble and helps soothe post-shave redness.
  • Larger fit: built with a more generous profile to better accommodate broader facial structures.

Cons:

  • No standard red light(633nm): Less effective at surface-level skin brightening and providing an immediate "glowing" effect.
  • Modest LED count: Features only 132 dual-chip LEDs, fewer than newer competitors on the market.
  • Bulky and tethered: Uses a hardwired handheld battery pack, and the straps can put uncomfortable pressure on the nose bridge.

Features:

  • Deep 1072nm near-infrared: introduces a unique, deep wavelength that maximizes tissue penetration to target deep fibroblast cells(likely offsetting the lower LED count).
  • 10 minute auto-shutoff: easy to use,single-button timer automatically powers down when the session ends.

Bon Charge

A highly flexible, lightweight silicone mask featuring dense LED coverage, though it sports a unique aesthetic.

Pros:

  • High LED density: packed with 240 LED bulbs for exceptionally dense facial coverage.
  • Comfortable design: weighs just 7 oz(200g for fellow Europeans..) with a highly malleable, flexible silicone fit.
  • Low EMF: emits minimal electromagnetic fields, reducing the risk of EMF-triggered headaches.

Cons:

  • Unverified: lacks an official FDA clearance and independent clinical validation.
  • Sizing issues: can feel too small or restrictive for some users, leaving parts of the face uncovered.
  • Short battery life: the controller requires relatively frequent charging.

Features:

  • Dual-wavelength delivery: combines 630nm red light(surface-level) and 850nm near-infrared light(deep-tissue) at a 40.8mW/cm²irradiance level.
  • Customizable settings: Includes a dedicated controller to easily adjust and personalize treatment sessions.

To summarize, I personally think the Bon Charge model holds up the best. The fact that it also has established a reputation among medical professionals is also a good sign in my book. And with that I conclude my research for the best red light mask.

What do you think? Has anyone had experience with any other mentioned masks?

Progress After Finally Sticking to a Proper Acne Treatment Plan

Sharing my before and after progress. I had been dealing with recurring acne, oily skin, and post-acne marks for quite a while. After trying a lot of products with mixed results, I decided to follow a more structured treatment plan and stay consistent with it.

The improvement wasn't overnight, but over the course of a few sessions/months, I noticed fewer breakouts, less redness, and healthier-looking skin overall. Still a work in progress, but definitely happy with the direction things are going.

Recurring injuries completely changed how I think about training

Push harder. Recover fast. Repeat. But after dealing with recurring injuries over the last few years, my mindset changed a lot. Even when something technically heals, it’s hard to fully trust it again mentally. Now I think way more about recovery, inflammation, mobility, sleep, and longevity than I used to. Funny how injuries can completely shift your priorities over time.

Anyone here know how to increase melanin naturally for skin protection?

I have been researching how to increase melanin to help my very fair skin handle the upcoming summer sun more safely.
I started tracking my daily micronutrient intake on the Cronometer app on my iPhone to monitor my copper and base amino acid levels. I also bought a tub of L-Tyrosine powder online and have been taking it every morning with my tea. It tastes incredibly chalky, almost like drinking dissolved drywall lol
I have been doing this daily for three weeks now. I went for a brief walk in the park yesterday and still got immediately red and splotchy. It is so so so annoying and makes me feel like I am just wasting my time by not knowing how to increase melanin naturally
I read a few papers stating tyrosine should help preparing the skin, but my system seems to just ignore the supplement. the tracking app shows my nutrition is perfect, so I dont know if my digestion is simply blocking the absorption or if I am doing this completely wrong.
Has anyone actually had success with trying to get more pigment this way, ois it just my genetics?
