(Not self promo, I have no affiliation with this project aside from being an early adopter/tester)

I know a lot of folks felt super disappointed when Arc was abandoned put into maintenance mode so that Atlassian The Browser Company could focus on trying to make AI browsers a thing, myself included. A number of Arc-likes have popped up, but almost all of them are either AI slop that get quickly abandoned (Viola, Search, etc.), or have some issue that is hard to work around (e.g. Zen being Gecko-based and lacking DRM content support; Dia being very AI-forward, lacking a mobile app, and not carrying over all Arc's features, etc).

A new project popped up a few months ago that I started playing around with early, and it's reached a state where it actually feels like a true Arc successor: Crest.

Openly and proudly inspired by Arc, it includes many of the best features:

• Spaces
• Vertical tabs/sidebar-first UI
• Essentials instead of bookmarks
• Split view
• Peek
• Quick window (Little Arc)
• Link routing (Air Traffic Control)
• Command Palette
• Huge list of keyboard shortcuts
• Sync (via iCloud)

...while doing a lot of things in a unique way, or expanding on what was there:

• SwiftUI interface
• Dual-engine support
  • Super unique feature I've never seen in another browser (currently only available in the developer release, but coming to stable soon). (Ungoogled) Chromium is the default engine out of the box, but you can choose to use WebKit instead if you'd prefer, or assign particular sites to a particular engine. It also auto-detects if a page has DRM content that isn't loading (as it doesn't have a Widevine license yet), and will automatically fall back to WebKit, which is able to play DRM content thanks to Apple FairPlay from your OS.
• ULTRA customizable without needing custom CSS or JavaScript—lots of templates to pick from, but you can tweak damn near everything as you please.
• Free and open source
• Mobile UI that reflects the desktop UI (personally I always hated Arc's mobile app—felt dissonant, where the desktop browser was a feature-rich one for power users, while the mobile app felt oddly stripped down and barebones)

The current stable release is a bit behind—still using WebKit only, though with support for Firefox and Chrome extensions (though this feature was a bit buggy, given the complications of implementing an extension built for one browser engine into another, and has been removed since the switch to Chromium)—but in my personal experience, the developer release is incredibly stable. I've yet to have it crash on me, and the bugs I've found are extremely minor, with the developer quick to release updates to fix them.

Really not trying to spam, I'm just super excited about this project as it's the first browser that REALLY scratches the same itch as Arc, and it being an open source project only makes it more exciting. It is currently limited to the Apple ecosystem, and the UI being built in Swift means porting it to Windows/Android/Linux will be a massive project, but the dev hasn't ruled it out. I know MKBHD/Waveform were big Arc fans, so I figured I'd share here in case anyone else might be interested 🙂

Firstly, the rest of the mod team and I would like to thank everyone for your patience as we've worked on expanding the team, responding to leaks, sorted through major new content announcements, etc. All 10 of us love this game and want to ensure this community stays a welcoming, positive, accessible one for all Pokopia fans 🫶 We're still taking feedback on how the sub is run on one of our other pinned mod posts, so sound off in the comments section over there with anything you'd like us to consider! With that being said, we have a few updates we wanted to share with the community, and felt that today would be the perfect time to do that!

🛡️ New Moderators

We have now completed our new mod search, with myself, u/Amiibofan101, and u/MeganLeigh1122 joining the team. You might've seen us around already, but we're all excited to be joining the team and look forward to doing what we can to keep this community great!

🫧 New Design

We've made some modest tweaks to the subreddit's design, such as a DLC-themed banner (which we will update accordingly with future releases!), easier access to the wiki (where we keep the FAQ and the full rules) and Discord server in the sidebar, a new Bubbly Basin post flare, and more. ♻️ Rule Refresh

As with the look, we've made some adjustments to the rules. You can access the latest rules any time via the subreddit's sidebar or in our wiki. To summarize the latest updates, here's what's changed:

NEW: All posts must be in English. While we welcome fans from any part of the world, the majority of this subreddit is English-speaking. As such, we ask that posts be made in English, and that any screenshots not in English have a translation provided, so that all members can engage with your content.

UPDATED: Our spoiler policy has been updated to reflect the Expansion Pass era we're now in. The major base game content spoiler policy remains the same—no untagged posts about what happened to the humans, any major story beats, unannounced events, and game completion rewards. While we understand (and relate!) that many of you are very excited about new Pokopia content, many others prefer to experience new content blind, without any new details being revealed before they see it in-game. Our goal is to satisfy both groups, creating spaces where "spoiler" content can be discussed, but making it easily avoidable for those who don't want to see it yet. To that end, we've now added DLC content to this rule—here's how it will work:

• All posts related to RELEASED Expansion Pass/DLC content MUST have a spoiler tag until further notice. We are still determining the appropriate amount of time for this requirement; please feel free to share your thoughts. For now, though, just plan on spoiler tagging these posts until this rule is updated.
  • Please use the "Bubbly Basin" post flair on anything you submit related to Bubbly Basin. (This should also automatically add the spoiler tag, but make sure you double check before posting.)
• All posts related to UNRELEASED/FUTURE Expansion Pass content MUST go in the appropriate megathread. We will keep a link to the latest megathread on the Rules page of the wiki. You can access the Bubbly Basin megathread here.

CLARIFIED: We've added some clarifying language around what constitutes "(not) safe for work" content. In short, we ask that you keep in mind the fact that many young players of the game wind up Googling their questions, and landing in this subreddit. Please consider this when posting to the sub; while the bulk of our audience is teenaged or older, we'd like to keep the subreddit safe for players of all ages, particularly in terms of posts. 

CLARIFIED: We've added some clarifying language in the "Basic respect is required" rule. Thankfully, we haven't had many issues in this subreddit, but wanted to highlight that bigotry and hatred in all its various forms—racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.—will not be tolerated.

We also made minor adjustments to the other rules, however these changes were not substantive (i.e., the rule itself hasn't changed; we just tweaked the wording or formatting for clarity). We want to make sure the rules are clear to understand and evenly enforced, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out and ask; we're always happy to provide guidance on what is allowed and what is not.

🎁 Wrap up & Looking ahead

A couple of housekeeping notes as we look ahead to Bubbly Basin and beyond:

• We will post and sticky an announcement when Pokémon Pokopia v2.0 and the Expansion Pass Part 1: Bubbly Basin DLC are available to download. While no official time has been confirmed, we are expecting it to release at 10:00 AM JT on Wednesday, August 5, based on past Pokémon DLC releases; click here to see the conversion to your time zone. (For our US friends, this corresponds to 6:00 PM PT/9:00 PM ET on Tuesday, August 4; for those in Europe, this would be 3:00 AM CET on Wednesday, August 5).
  • The release announcement will also be the temporary hub for general v2.0/Bubbly Basin-related info; we will add the official patch notes as soon as they are available, and will work on building out a Bubbly Basin FAQ within that post as we evaluate which questions are most common (we will add them to the FAQ page in the subreddit's wiki at a later date). Once it is out, you will be allowed to submit posts outside of the stickied threads about Bubbly Basin, so long as they are spoiler tagged and NOT just a repeat of what is in the stickied post (i.e., no "it's out!" posts or patch note posts).
• As a reminder, there is still time to submit your artwork for consideration in Smearguru's Summer Canvas: Pokopia Island's First Art Contest, organized by our friends in r/Pokopia's sister Discord server, Pokopia Island! The latest version of Dia for macOS has brought back Spaces, a way to manage multiple profiles in a single browser window. It's a bit different than Arc, as 1 profile = 1 space, however you can share data between sets of profiles if you'd like, effectively allowing multiple spaces within one profile.

They also announced that the Windows version of Dia will be dropping this Fall.

I'm still missing a lot of other Arc features, but honestly, single-window profile management was far and away the biggest thing for me, so I'm giving it another go as my default browser for now.

To start off, we'd like to say that while it may seem quite likely that August 5 will be the release date of the DLC, we currently do not have an official announcement from Nintendo confirming this (at time of writing).

We know that a lot of the community members here will be excited at the idea of being able to access DLC features on the 5th, but we feel that it's only fair to say that we're still waiting for confirmation. We will update this thread if/when we do get confirmation.

Moving forward, our team here at r/Pokopia (like all other Pokopia players) have just found out about the apparent release date and over the next few days, we'll hopefully be announcing some plans for making this subreddit work for the community at large 💙

Currently, part of this plan was to create a megathread within this topic to discuss the hype regarding the upcoming DLC, which is what we're doing here. For the next few days, we ask that all content that involves anything related to the DLC remain within this thread, as we know many players want to stay spoiler free with anything that involves new content for Pokopia. 🌱

About me:

I'm a 29 year old gay guy who has been living in this apartment for over 7 years now. Graduated from college in 2019 and currently work full-time at a university and am finishing a Master's program this year. I work M-F, 10AM-6PM, with a hybrid schedule (usually in-office 3 days a week, WFH 2). Extroverted but need my recharge time to myself as well. Into video games (mainly Nintendo), tech, plants, Drag Race, decorating the apartment, and playing with my cat, Franklin.

One of my roommates is planning to move to his own place at the end of the lease; the other roommate is staying (his 6th year!). I'm likely to look for my own place myself next year, but still need a year to save up for that!

The apartment is usually pretty quiet, but I do enjoy having a couple friends over on evenings/weekends (almost never more than 2-3, and most of my friends are pretty quiet too lol). I have a cat, so I'm looking for someone else who loves furry friends :) (He's SUPER nice, and has never met a person he didn't want to be besties with! Pics of him at the end) Both me and the roommate who is staying are more on the "home body" end of the scale, but generally keep to ourselves and aren't home ALL the time.

I'm reasonably flexible, but dealbreakers include:

I know little enough that most guides I've been able to find online are not helpful, because I don't know how to identify things like porosity, type, pattern, etc. (and guides on figuring those things out tend to confuse me, as I'll have qualities from each option).

What I (think I) do know:

• I have very fine hair (been thinning since an early age, too) that I believe would fall into "Type 2A" classification.
• My scalp tends to be semi visible in the best case scenarios, highly visible much of the time
• My hair tends to fall flat against my head
• My hair often looks straight since it's not too long, but it does get wavier the longer it gets
• When I've tried to cut back on shampooing in the past, it's left my hair constantly looking greasy, even after a couple weeks.
• I dye my hair (naturally dirty-blonde, been going red the last couple of years), and it holds color for a LONG time; I don't usually need to dye more than 2-3 times a year.
  • When I dye it, it does feel a bit "dead" for a couple of days, but generous use of leave-in conditioner helps minimize how long this lasts
• I get very sweaty, very easily, ESPECIALLY on my scalp.

My current routine:

• I wash and condition my hair daily. I'm not married to any particular shampoo or conditioner, but I've been using Wella Invigo Brilliance Shampoo for Fine/Normal Color-Treated Hair (and the accompanying conditioner) for some time now.
• After my shower, I gently towel dry a bit (just patting it mostly), then let it continue to air dry a bit more while I shave.
• After shaving, I spray some leave-in conditioner (Together Beauty Whatever Wherever) and some sea salt spray (Level 3 Sea Salt Texturizing Spray) into my hands, work it into my hair, and then brush.
• I blow-dry on medium to low heat with a diffuser attachment, doing my best to style my hair while I do it.
• If I'm planning on going outside for basically any amount of time, I add some texture powder (Level 3 Styling Powder) and "scrunch" my hair up into the style/position I want

The issues I have:

• Wind absolutely obliterates my hair, often to a point that I need a full shower to "reset" it and work with it
• My hair starts "clumping" together into greasy-looking sections pretty easily; it's rare that I make it to the end of the day without this happening, unless I don't leave the house and don't exert myself very much.
• Most products I've tried either leave my hair (1) crunchy, shiny, and stiff, (2) looking and feeling very dried out, or (3) looking and feeling very greasy and heavy.
  • Gels and hairspray generally fall into that first group; powders tend to fall into the second; oils fall into the third

What I want to know/my goals:

• What products and styling techniques can help me style my hair the way I want (that natural "tousled" look, similar to the pic where I have headphones on), while either holding up in the wind or at least leaving it fixable without a shower when it does get blown around?
• How can I better identify my hair's porosity, density, and texture?
