Impact Resistant Roof

Insurance is buying me a new roof due to hail damage! They're paying for Class 3 impact resistance, but I'm wondering if an upgrade to Class 4 would be worthwhile. It bumps up the out of pocket cost about 3700 for the upgrade; with insurance discount of Class 3 vs 4 that equals out in 12 years.

We're not planning on moving in 12 years, but you also never know. Is it worth it? Does it add anything to resale value?

Spotted: Sheriff abusing taxpayer property and endangering a child

Pulled into the Crawfordsville Casey's just off the 74 and what do I see? A Sheriff Department K9 SUV with an off duty trooper getting into it. Not super unusual, rural Sheriff's take their vehicles home all the time and while they're not supposed to run errands in them sometimes they do.

But then I see him help his son, maybe three years old, into the car seat *in the front seat*. Quite explicitly against the law but also likely something this officer has written tickets for himself. Plus in an accident that child is at lethal risk for both the collision and the airbag.

Only wish I had gotten a picture of this middle aged white male officer with a buzz cut showing such disregard for both taxpayers and his child.

What data field/screen is this?

Not my picture, swiped it from an article about it.

Training for my event this lovely pace meter held my feet to the fire, so I was surprised the PacePro strategy I created for the event didn't include it. And I definitely felt it's lack.

What's the data field name so I can add it to my default screens?

Duathlon (swim-bike) with a course?

I'm trying to get a swim-bike multi event that will also include bike navigation. But I can't figure out how to do it! Fenix 8 if it matters.

I have a sprint triathlon coming and they just announced the bike route will be reversed and I have NOT practiced in reverse so I'd like to do it here. And it has to be a duathlon or the Garmin Coach will yell at me. Thanks in advance!

Today was a good day

Short story up front. Dec 31, 2025 I was barely active, overweight, and hating myself for both of them. So I decided to do something about it, but I actually stuck to it since then. The next week (had to let the Y empty out of fellow Resolutioners) I started swimming. I SUCKED at first, only managed 300yds total with about half that 20 minutes gasping for breath. But I kept at it, and have had all of five days this year without at least a twenty (thirty since March) minute activity.

Then in April I saw a flyer for a sprint triathlon. 400yds swimming. I got that, I thought. 10 mile bike. Too easy, said the guy who hasn't rode a bike since college. And a 5k run. That might be hard, the overweight vet with bad knees thought. But I loaded up ol' Coach Jeff on my Garmin and proceeded to see that I sucked at running just like swimming. But just like in the water I got better. Turned out biking wasn't really an issue after all, it is only 10 miles of course.

Anyway, that triathlon is next weekend. I've lost thirty pounds. I've shaved three minutes off my run miles. And today? Today I shattered every single swimming personal record.

Today is a good day, and I'm thankful for all the advice and encouragement I've received from this community both while lurking and making a few comments here and there. And two Mondays from now as I'm recovering from this first triathlon, I'm going to start looking for a 10k one.

Cycling Trainer Questions

I've been training for a sprint triathlon, the first time I've really ridden a bike with an intensity since junior high. Both on my cheapo Walmart bike and the Stages trainers at the gym.

Anyway, I like it. I like it enough that I'm tempted to lean into the "more money than sense" aspect of my personality. If I'm getting the Garmin ecosystem I can either get a standalone like the Tacx NEO Bike Plus; or get a physical bike, take off the rear wheel, and attach it to a either a Tacx NEO 2T or 3M.

Training with your own bike seems ideal, but what is the community thoughts of standalone or smart trainer? Do I need power pedals for either option? Do I need a bike computer? How does shifting work? Are there other questions I should be asking?

What was the book between Plum Creek and Silver Lake?

I'm fairly sure I've read it, but now I'm coming up empty. This would be and expanded universe book like the Nellie ones.

Edit: Found it, Old Town in the Green Groves

Bike for first tri

Something tells me I'm going to regret this. **BUT** I only want a finish.

Edit: This is the bike I have for a 40k bike leg. It isn't pretty, but it's what I got.

Kindred scientists

The thing that always stuck me was that vampires were shocked at the appearance of 14th & 15th generations, much less their offspring. But, why? Surely there had to have been a leech with a scientific disposition that forced progeny embracings well before the final nights.

Obviously such experiments would be very hush hush, especially when it was learned that potency had a finite limit, and the greater knowledge of that would be heavily restricted by the Camarilla (and/or Sabbat). But when all the weirdness started, *someone* privy to that knowledge should have been all "Hey remember Bob's experiments in 1241?"

Biggest complaint I have

There's knobs for temperature and fan speeds, but push button for volume. I almost never adjust the temperature, rarely adjust the fan speed. But you know what I'm constantly turning up and down? The audio. Yet I'm stuck here like some kind of peasant clicking the volume up or down one at a time instead of cranking those awesome tunes up!

Still, it says something about the quality of this vehicle that my largest complaint is not having an audio knob.

Edit: 26 SE AWD Hybrid. Apparently the culprit is the Premium Package as the base SE and all LEs have a knob. This package and the XLE Hybrid lose the knob in favor of buttons in order to accommodate the larger screen.

My Coach keeps deleting my activities!

Every day this week my triathlon coach workout for the next day vanishes around mid afternoon. I haven't been increasing my workouts outside of the coach plan, it's just my standard 1,000 yard morning swim. I have all seven days checked for training availability with Sunday my long run day.

This was the first week of peak phase but I've literally had no bikes or runs at all. My legs crave activity. What the heck is happening, and how do I fix it?
