[B][USA-MA] Looking to buy an xe3 or xe4

Currently in the market for a used xe3 or xe4. I do not care if the camera has cosmetic damage as long as the screen/viewfinder has no cracks or scratches. I would prefer the sensor have no imperfections. Strong preference towards the shutter count being under 30k. If you’re able to meet in person I’m willing to commute to anywhere in the Boston metro area.

Rough budget for each model is as follows

Xe3 body- 500-600

Xe4 body- 700-800

Willing to buy lenses as well for additional money.

MacBook Neo comparison to 16 inch 2019 MacBook Pro

Hi all,
Not sure if this is on topic but I just wanted to get a frame of reference here. Just started medical school and was hoping to get by with my iPad Pro 13 inch and my 5080 pc setup for the time being but turns out I need a dedicated laptop.

Currently have my MacBook Pro 16 inch from late 2019( 2.6 GHz 6-core Intel Core I7, 16 gb ddr4, intel UHD graphics 630 1536 mb) that I purchased for undergrad that has dead keys. It also just generally goes crazy slow. Checked with Apple and it’ll be about 900 dollars to repair which is an obvious no go when I could buy a nicer computer for that amount.

My dilemma atm is that I really am trying to wait until the oled Macs come out to buy another MacBook Pro. Every screen I own is OLED(tv, iPad, phone, monitor) so I really would like the Mac to have the oled screen too even though I have heard the current miniled screen is amazing.

My current thought process is that I could pick up a neo for my first year of med school and then just trade it in for the Mac pro(or ultra whatever they’re going to call the oled Mac) when it comes out.

Just curious about a relative power comparison between my current Mac and the neo. If worst comes to worst I could always just get an air, but the Neo seems very appealing to me as to my understanding I shouldn’t need anything crazy powerful. Any thoughts appreciated.

Tips to appreciate/critically engage with movies more as a voracious reader?

Hi all,
Recently was gifted a small number of my favorite movies on 4k Blu-ray by my uncle who is an avid physical media collector as congratulations for getting into medical school. Historically I have enjoyed many movies but I find they just never hold my attention as much as books do. I typically find the only way I can really get into a movie is by going to see it in the movie theatre.

While I’m not going to have a huge amount of time now that school has started, I do want to try to get into movies to allow for some escapism from all the studying I will be doing and was just looking for any tips on how to appreciate/critically engage with movies more.

When it comes to fiction, I love experimental and classical works but I just haven’t found the same appreciation for these kinds of movies. Even last year I probably read around 50 books and only watched around 10 or so movies. I oftentimes find that I will read the book a movie was adapted from and then just lose all interest on even watching the movie. Even when I do watch the movie, I typically end up hating it because I find it so disappointing compared to the book(looking at you blade runner).

I will fully acknowledge here that I probably have had the education to be able to appreciate classical literature to a greater extent than I have had the education to appreciate cinema. I’m just trying to think of ways I can find to enjoy/appreciate/engage with movies more.

Any thoughts appreciated

Does sitting closer to a tv meaningful improve perceived brightness?

Recently switched to a new 77 OLED that should be about 3x as bright as my old one. ATM tho I’m really not noticing any difference when watching hdr movies with at times it being even dimmer than before. Big thing to note here is I sit about twice the distance as I used to from the tv(4.5 ft->9ft). Would going back to my previous seating position meaningfully improve perceived brightness?

Are some 4k Blu-ray’s just dim?

Recently upgraded my whole tv setup and my uncle(who’s a huge physical media collector) gave me some of my favorite movies on 4k bluray. The thing I’ve noticed however is that when I set the tv up(77 inch OLED) with all the recommended video settings, hdr is markedly dim on all my discs(the big offender is The Northman).

From my reading it seems that this might just be the case for how the creator intended the movie to be seen. Is this just something I’ll need to get used to?

S95F very dim in hdr

Hi all,
Recently relocated to Boston and decided to treat myself to a tv upgrade. 77 S90D-> 77 S95F. To celebrate my move and after hearing I got a new tv my uncle who’s a big 4k movie collector gave me some Blu rays as he’s downsizing his collection. Currently just running them off my ps5 pro.

In an effort to get the best quality out of this physical media, I went to RTings and followed all their settings. The thing is said settings made the tv brutally dim. When I first got the tv I genuinely had to turn down the brightness because the whites were searing my eyeballs but now I find I can barely even see details in movies the tv is so dark. It would be different if this was a problem during the day as I would just tweak the settings to brighten things back up, but even at night in a pitch black room the tv is so markedly dim. I think my phone even at the minimum brightness is still noticeably brighter than the tv. I am by no means a brightness fanatic(big reason I returned the G5) but I feel like I genuinely cannot see the movie very well despite the fact that I have better than average vision. Is this something I’m just going to have to get used to if I want the best picture quality?

Few things to note:
-the big offender seems to be contrast enhancer. Even when set to low the tv gets markedly brighter. I keep reading about how contrast enhancer causes details loss on the extremes of the spectrum but is this really that significant?
-In my new living room my sitting distance is markedly more far away from the tv than previously. I sat about 4.5 feet away from the 77 S90D and sit around 8 feet away from the 77 S95F. I can definitely move the couch closer if this is a good solution.
-the movie that is the big offender for me is The Northman which is I’m well aware a somewhat dark movie but wow could not see shit that was happening.

How does Sonos handle DTS-HD master audio 5.1 on 4k blu rays?

Recently was gifted a 4k blu ray of Everything everywhere all at once by a friend(it’s my first ever blu ray) and I was blown away by the increased quality of both the movie and audio. I’ve been thinking of buying a few more of my favorite movies on 4k blu ray, but I saw today that older movie 4k blu rays often times come with DTS-HD master audio track which i know Sonos does not support. How does Sonos handle receiving that audio signal? Online it says that the system will convert it to Dolby digital 5.1; does that mean the audio quality is being down converted to match the quality of streaming services? For a movie like Alien(one of my favorite movies of all time), I own it on Apple TV on my Apple TV 4K which is one of the highest quality streaming services to my understanding. On there it has Dolby atmos audio. Does that mean it has better audio than the 4k blu ray running through a Sonos system?

Bent Coax port on s95f

Hi all, not sure if this belongs here. Just received a new s95f for my bedroom and the one connect box has a markedly bent coax port. What is this even used for? If I don’t have cable is it a big deal?

When did the r/4ktv become so anti Samsung QD-OLED TVs?

Not sure if this is considered a relevant topic here, but I’m very curious as to when that sub became so anti Samsung OLED TVs? Between the auto comment basically saying not to buy any Samsung TVs to them consistently removing posts/comments asking about Samsung QD-OLED TVs, it seems like they have a major grudge against Samsung as a tv manufacturer. It’s a shame when the subreddit really for picking out a tv has moderators who so clearly have an intense bias against one of the major tv manufacturers

Used BDI media console, worth it?

Hi all, I’m moving across the country(from atl to Boston) and I’m working on getting all the things together for my setup in my new condo. Just pulled the trigger on an s95f 77 inch(upgrading from a 77 inch s90d) and am currently in the market for a tv stand. Previous tv stand was this way fair garbage stand that while looking nice was a piece of crap quality wise.

I’ve been really struggling to find any new quality solid wood stands, and a friend of mine recommended I check out Facebook marketplace(especially since I’m going to be driving up almost the entire east coast meaning I could pick up the stand on the way). I’ve seen BDI stands come highly recommended, and I’ve found quite a few on fb marketplace for significantly off.

All of these however are discontinued models. My setup will be the s95f 77 inch, arc ultra, sub 4, and 2x era 300s(Ik not very home theatrey). I do have a pair of kef r3 metas with an SVS 3000 micro revolution for critical listening that I may at some point transition to be the sound system for the tv(I have a marantz m1 at the moment for the amp).

Do BDI stands hold their quality well? Is it a bad idea to get a discountinued model? Big concern here is the s95f is about 95 pounds not including the arc ultra so I need something that has a sizeable weight capacity. Any thoughts appreciated

S95f vs S90f

Hi all, currently in the market for a tv to replace my old 77 inch s90d. Was initially considering the a95L, but after seeing it at Best Buy realized I’d rather go with a newer panel. In terms of qd oled I’m mainly considering The s95f or s90f. I was very very impressed by the s95h at the store, but I have no interest in buying it as it’ll just lose half its value in a year. Have been trialing a G5 for two weeks, but I really think I need to just go back to QD-OLED

To my understanding the main difference between the two is higher refresh rate, brighter panel, matte screen, and one connect box on the s95f. Currently looking at a roughly 1000 dollar gap between the two for the 77 inch(1400 v. 2400) but the price of the tv is a relative non factor.

Room I’ll be using it in will be bright but not markedly bright. I found the s90d to be bright enough for my previous apartments living room that was significantly brighter.

The rationale behind considering the s95f is that the higher refresh rate and one connect box(seems very appealing. The one thing I’m uncertain of is the matte screen, it seems pretty unclear if it raises black levels in a completely dark room. I don’t know why it would, as that doesn’t really make sense, but it seems some people do report that. It also is markedly brighter than the s90f, which after seeing in Best Buy realized is something I might want.

Would the s95f be worth the extra 1000? Anyone who has experience with the matte screen have any reviews of it? Any thoughts much appreciated

S90f vs Sony a95L

Hi all, I recently sold my 77 inch s90d as I am moving across the country for medical school. The deal I made with my parents was that they would cover the difference between what I sold it for and a new tv. I’m currently debating between two tvs for the new tv: the 77 inch a95L and the 77 inch s90f.

The s90d was the perfect tv and I felt no need to upgrade, my parents just didn’t want to go through the hassle of moving such a large tv across the country.

My living room currently is brighter and has more windows than my new living room which will have no direct sunlight and be overall darker(I may also get blackout curtains). I found the s90d to be more than bright enough for my bright living room and from what I understand both tvs I’m considering are brighter than the s90d.

For the tv, I want to prioritize it being the best for movies as I have a 32 inch 4k Qd oled(pgucdm3) that I mostly game on.

It comes down to this: is the Sony a95L worth the 1700 price increase over the s90f? After my parents contributions and my money from selling the tv it’ll probably put the price difference around 800 dollars between the two( so I pay nothing for the 77 s90f or pay around 800 for the Sony a95L). Is it really worth paying that just for Dolby Vision? My current 32 inch 4k old oled has Dolby vision and idk if I notice much of a difference when it is on. Any thoughts appreciated

Moving and deciding whether to upgrade S90d or not

Hi all,
Currently in a somewhat unique situation. I’m moving from Atlanta to Boston in about a month for medical and am wondering if I should sell my 77 inch s90d before the move. I know I won’t be able to get much for it on Facebook marketplace but the hassle of moving it has me very stressed. My mom has even offered to pay the difference between whatever I sell it for and getting a new tv. This obviously is within limit as I don’t believe she has a concrete understanding of how much oleds cost. I’m kind of stuck with this decision though. I love the s90d and it meets all my needs. Also, from what I’ve heard, Samsung has fallen off hard in the tv department since it. Neither the s90h nor the s90f seem appealing for me at all and I have no need for the matte screen of the s95 series. The lg c series to me would just be a downgrade in comparison to it as well. The only tvs I could see competing would be the lg g series or the Sony a95l(tge Bravia 8 II would fit here if it wasn’t capped at 65 inches)
. What would you all recommend? Should I just bite the bullet and sell it then upgrade when I get to Boston? Am I wrong in thinking that there’s not TVs worth upgrading to over the s90d? Any thoughts/opinions are much appreciated

Edit: also important to note I have healthcare worker discounts for both lg and Samsung so get TVs from both of them for a decent discount

Kef kc62 vs SVS 3000 micro revolution

Hi all,
Currently debating on whether or not to pick up a kef kc62 or SVS 3000 micro revolution for my current system. I have someone who will sell me a barely used kc62 for $900 while the SVS 3000 micro revolution is around 1000 online.

My current system setup is a pair of lsx iis and a pair of kef r3 metas which are both located in the same room. I plan to simply just switch the subwoofer between both sets of speakers as my amp sits on my desk next to my lsx iis making switching connections easy. The subwoofer will primarily be for my R3 metas as strangely enough my room setup boosts the lsx iis bass significantly while nulling a lot of the kef r3 metas bass.

Which subwoofer out of the two do you think would be better for my setup? While the SVS would be more, I also would be buying it new with a warranty vs the kef which I’ve seen and heard(it works great) but would lose the warranty due to kefs policy on a second hand ownership. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Samsung S90D, worth it to get an ASUS Pg32ucdm3 for my desk?

Basically the title, currently gaming on my 77 inch s90d and am considering getting the ASUS to use as both a monitor for my MacBook Pro and my pc.

When I ended up building my pc in November of last year I couldn’t justify getting a monitor too when I had the s90d already available to use. I have loved using it as my monitor as it has given me the console vibe I was looking for/coming from. However, with the release of the new penta qd oled and the inclusion of Dolby vision on them as well(which the s90d lacks) I’m feeling very tempted to start using my desk again with a monitor.

To be clear, I plan to get a cpu cart and just roll my computer around between my desk in my bedroom and my living room so the s90d will be be used as I have no doubt a 32 inch screen will not compare to a 77 inch screen. Just wanted to ask what y’all’s thoughts were here as I have never owned a gaming monitor before

Hi all,
For context I currently own an audiotechnica lp120usb that’s about 11 years old and am debating on if I will get markedly better sound quality if I upgrade to a new record player. The reason behind my potential upgrade is I just setup a whole audio system(KEF r3, Marantz m1, and SVS sb-3000 revolution) and I don’t want my record player to limit the quality of the system. The system is primarily for streaming and wired audio playback from a Mac/ipad, but I have been planning to hook my record player up as I have thousands of dollars in records I haven’t touched in a few years. Any recommendations would be much appreciated not looking to spend over $700 for my budget and I live in the US. This will be for near field/desk listening

Hi all,
I’m currently in the market to purchase a pair of bookshelf speakers and I’m struggling to decide on what to choose. Currently in terms of audio I use an expensive pair of IEMs and multiple pairs of sennheiser headphones with my primary being the HD660s2. For my tv sound system I have the full high end Sonos setup for atmos(arc ultra, sub 4, era 300s).

I’m currently deciding whether or not powered speakers are right for me. My budget right now is 2500 pre tax which could currently net me a pair of Klipsch the sevens II and their respective stands. The big appeal of these is the level of connectivity present: AirPlay, usb c audio, chromecast, Spotify cast, Bluetooth. I do not plan on using the speakers I purchase to replace my Sonos system and do not care about my system connecting to my Sonos system(via the Sonos amp). The sevens II have gotten glowing reviews so far but I just keep seeing significant negatives surrounding powered speakers in terms of longevity. This worries me as a I have speakers from Sonos over 10 years old at this point that work just as great as the day I got them. For reference I live in a studio apartment and I plan to have these speakers in an entryway projecting into my bedroom. In the realm of passive speakers, I’m not worried about the amp so much as I have experience with headphone amps and dacs, but I do worry how much a nice amp will cost that has all the connectivity features that the sevens II have. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Basically what the title says, I currently own a pair of Sennheiser hd660s2s and momentum 4s and am debating if I want to get a pair of closed back wired headphones. I like the hd660s2s, they are very comfortable and sound great but in all honesty they sound VERY boring at times. I own a pair of kiwi ears astral IEMS that I love for shorter listening periods but IEMS just typically irritate my ear canal if I wear them for too long. Kind of looking for a pair of closed back wired headphones that match the kiwi ear astrals in terms of sound and are very fun sounding with very good bass. My research has led me to the Fiio ft1s which seem great because I would only have to drop 150 on them. I’ve also debated the 620s due to it being only 220 at Best Buy atm but the whole reason im getting a closed back wired pair of headphones is a way more fun sound. What are y’all’s thoughts? Would prefer to spend less than $300 and want a sound the opposite of the Sennheiser 660s2
