UNAS Pro 4

I only have two hard drives laying around, I have one 500 GB SSD, And another 700 GB HDD. I plugged them both into my UNAS, And I noticed that I could only add one of them to the storage pool, and even at that with no protection. Again I'm only testing before I purchase for SSD's, but my question is shouldn't I have been able to use both of the hard drives even though they weren't the same size? I understand I might not have protection because they're not the same size, but I was Only ever able to use one of the hard drives, and I was never able to use the other one even though it was installed.

I am looking to purchase the unify NAS pro four. However I do not want to put HDD‘s in the Dr. bay is as I would rather use SSD. However they do not make 3.5 inch SSD’s. Does that mean you cannot put them in there?

Which Dr. do y’all recommend me yet? The reason I don’t want to use HDD’s is because they’re slower plus in my mind there much more prone to going bad

EDIT: I will need to get the UNAS, plus drives, and SSDs are ALOT of money, you know, getting 4 of them plus the UNAS. What would YOU do here? HDDS are so much cheaper, but I dont want this to be something that comes back to bite me later. I will be storing Photos, videos, and working on Premeire files. Just as you would any NAS.
