Stocks and shares or cash life time isa?

Hello, I'm 34 and just about to open a lifetime isa. My dilemma is I don't know which type. I have been looking at money box either stocks and shares or cash.

I am not sure if it will be for a house or retirement. As far as I can tell I can open one and it can be used for either?

I'm not sure if I will ever buy a house although it's absolutely a possibility. I was filling out the details for a stocks and shares one and I read that there are accountant charges so I thought a cash one might be simpler.

Difference between cheap and expensive smart phones

I have a Samsung galaxy and it's time for a new phone. I'm going for Samsung again. The price ranges are crazy.

For the average person who uses a phone for messages, calls, Internet, social media and its camera, are there any benefits in going more expensive?

What price range would be most suitable, cheap, mid range or expensive?

Thank you for all your responses, I hope other people find this thread useful too :)

What do you consider to be rural in the UK?

I live in a town in the north of England and was surprised to read on my GPs website that we are apparently a rural community. It's a town of about 14,000 surrounded by villages, the A1 runs through our town and we have a train station connecting us to the capital of Scotland and London. We can get to 2 different cities in about 40 minutes on a train and 60 minutes by car, with plenty of other towns in between. I would have considered the Scottish highlands to be rural, not a northern English town. It feels like an excuse from the GP website, them saying 'sorry don't expect good care, we are too far away from any other civilisation'.

Got an implant and bone graft at the same time and I think the bone graft is failing.

My gums aren't healing fully and a lot of bone graft has came out through my gums, lots of tiny rocks, probably close to 10 including the ones still in my gum that I'm expecting to come out, they are not sand like granules. I would have thought all the graft was gone with the amount that has came out but my gum keeps pushing more of it to the surface.

My dentist has seen it and we are monitoring it. What happens if my gums push all the graft out, is that possible? I do not have a crown yet. Is it an option to leave it and see if my bone grows around the implant after 6 months or so? Is it possible there is still enough bone graft in my gum despite it looking like a lot is getting pushed out?

Dental implant lump on jawline

10 days after dental implant and bone graft surgery I have a hard lump on my jawline and just above my jawline. All swelling is gone so i dont think its swelling. I can feel it when I run my fingers over my face. It feels like a very hard lump deep in my cheek tissue. About 5 cm. What is this?

edited to add that I've just inspected my gum and compared it to the other side of my mouth. my gum is huge and solid on the implant site. is that normal?

UK people, has anyone requested high resolution newspaper prints?

British newspaper archive says you can request them for a £30 fee but says you need permission from the paper owner. I can't see who owns the local newspaper that I want, so I'm not sure how I will go about that.

Has anyone done this? I would like photographs from around 100 years ago that are on the newspapers uploaded online.

I'm wondering about the process and how much better the quality actually is. Find my past has newspapers, can you also request high quality copies from them?

Is this a normal amount of bone graft loss after 1 week?

I have had this amount of bone graft loose in my mouth twice now. Once a couple of days ago and then this today. I'm on day 7 post surgery. I thought it was a big piece but I just kept an eye on my mouth and it looks sealed by white granulation tissue. It still looks sealed but I'm worried that this is a lot of bone graft particles to lose. I was told I would find sand like particles. Is this normal?

Does animal bone and membrane disappear?

I had a bone graft along with my implant.

I'm pretty sure it was pig bone, not 100% sure but I did hear them say they were using membrane from a pig that my gum would grow over.

Over time will the pig bone and membrane completely disappear and be replaced by my own bone and gum?

What is the timeline of this happening?

Shaky after numbing injection

I think it's normal to have shaky hands and racing heart quickly after the injection, but how common is it? Is there anything the patient can do to stop this side effect? Is it concerning for dentists to see this reaction? Mine asked if I had eaten anything, presumably thinking i hadn't, but it's the reaction I always have.

Would exposed bone graft be very painful?

I had a bone graft and dental implant done 2 weeks ago. It was a complex and long procedure, the swelling on both my gums and cheek was quite severe but that was expected.

The swelling has gone, maybe a tiny bit on the gum remains but I'm positive it's not infected, and the area and pain has improved every day since.

The gum has sort of flaps however, perhaps still a bit swollen as they are lumpy, and a deep v shape. A dark grey texture is visible in the v shape. It looks like sandstone in texture.

I would have thought an exposed bone graft would be very painful but I only have mild sensitivity when hot or cold touch it. The gum has very mild pain/ pressure when pressed so I don't think the gum has finished healing. I have a check up in a couple of days but I'm just worried about what the dentist is going to say. Is this prolonged healing due to the severe swelling (I'm hoping it is), or will this need intervention? I'm hoping the gums will settle and tighten and fill the area. The top of my gum has a white patch which I think is granulation tissue, although it could be stitches not yet dissolved. The stitches have just started to clear so I couldn't see the area before.

I know you really need to see it in person to know, I'm just hoping for some reassurance before I go as I have a fear of going to the dentist.

Why did I feel sick and nearly faint while getting blood taken

Probably not the right sub but I have no idea what sub to ask.

I was fine for quite a while when they were taking my blood. I didn't feel it, I was talking, I wasn't nervous or bothered by the sight of blood.

Then all of a sudden I started to feel sick and faint. I had to get them to stop.

It was my body's reaction not an emotional reaction. What causes this?

Getting an implant on old extraction, what happens to the gums?

I have a missing tooth from a long time ago. I want to look at getting an implant but the gum has receded due to the missing tooth. You can see the root of the teeth either side.

How will an implant look on receded gums. My gums are very healthy, they only receded in that area due to the missing tooth. Its a lower back tooth.

Gap at top of crown

There is a tiny gap at the top of my crown that creates a black line. Can I do anything myself to fix this? The dentist has seen it and didn't say anything, it's more of an aesthetic issue.

Dental appointments during working hours

This is very specific but I'm wondering if anyone knows the reasoning behind it. Or if you think it's reasonable.

My work (in the UK) allows time off for dental appointments but specifically states that it doesn't include dental implant appointments, these must be taken as holiday. It also states that laser eye surgery must be taken as holiday. I don't agree with either but I guess laser eye surgery is optional. I don't get the dental implant one though. I guess work would be happier if I got dentures 🤷‍♀️

Feeling better after distancing myself for a while

Just sharing a little advice if anyone is feeling overwhelmed by people.

I wasnt feeling good for a few months, I was super busy and my head was constantly buzzing and people were constantly contacting me which was too much for me at that time.

For the last month I stopped replying to certain people and even took a step back from people I was seeing in person every day, cut back on being overly social at work.

I feel a huge weight lifted off my shoulders and I have worked out who to fade out of my life and who to cut back on how much I share with them. And who I want to be more friendly with.

I would advise anyone who needs it to take a few months just for themselves, stop texting, stop sharing your life with work colleagues, until you have a clear head again.

That counts as a hobby right?

I'm looking for suggestions for documentary or podcast subjects.

I love history and learning about different ways of life. For example I just watched one about a population in the Philippines who live on the water. My last podcast was the Salem which trials.

Thank you for any suggestions 😊

When I was in high school we were up on a high up field playing tennis. Everyone's hair became static, mine was the worst, the loose bits not in my ponytail were floating above my head. The teacher told us to leave the tennis court. Less than a minute later it was struck by lightening.

I also saw a tile fall off the roof of a 2-3 story building, missing someone by inches who was walking underneath.

I wonder if any of them mean anything or if close calls happen a billion times a day for no reason.

I noticed a grey (actually a bright white) hair today in my otherwise auburn hair. I don't want to colour my whole hair. Do you think this will do the trick?

I did pull the hair I found out but I'm planning ahead for future greys otherwise I'll end up bald!
