Dan Campbell confirms Cade Mays and Brian Branch are practicing today and starting their evaluation clocks.

Dan Campbell says they've tried to be as smart as possible with S Brian Branch in his return from an Achilles injury and wanted to make sure he was absolutely ready before returning to the grass.

Campbell on the report that contract talks with TE Sam LaPorta have stalled: "All that stuff, that's the last thing on my mind right now. ... Just because there's a report of that doesn't mean that's some big issue or big deal. I love LaPorta. We love LaPorta."

Dan Campbell said he thinks CB Keith Abney and S Jalen Mills are two DBs that could have a bigger role this week.

Campbell says he hasn't given any thought to adding a senior defensive assistant coach to the staff, but left the door open by saying that next week's bye week will give him a chance to look at everything.

Campbell said they held both Blake Miller and Monroe Freeling "in high regard" at the draft. "High grades on both." Both had athleticism, length, power in the run game. Said it came down to Miller's experience when choosing between the two.

Campbell said he's never seen Jared Goff's mobility as a hindrance. “Goff's game is cerebral. He's prototype. He can see. He's got a big arm, and he's an accurate passer." “We run the offense we run, and we're very good at it because of Jared Goff."

Dan Campbell on OT Blake Miller: "He's what we thought he would be and that's that he's a consistent, steady player for a young guy." “He learns from every error." “We love where he's at right now."

Campbell said he doesn't see a need to bring back reviews for DPI: "It's so subjective." “You do enough of these, now the game gets extended...I'm all good with it not being a challenge anymore. Those guys gotta make the call and you gotta live with it."
