Crying level

Baby is 5.5 months old. We tried sleep training at 4.5 months and I couldn’t deal with the amount of crying. Open to trying again now. We have a solid schedule 2/2.5/2.5/3.

My question is, how much crying is normal? Is it possible she’s just not sleep trainable? Her cries sound like I am torturing her. It’s very dramatic and goes on a longggg time. And yes, I have played around with awake time. I did a few days of 10.5 hours awake and it made no difference. Out of the 14 days we tried, she had 3 days where she went down easily with minimal fussing. I did nothing different these days. It doesn’t make sense to me why those days she could do it but the other days were extreme scream crying for 40+ minutes.

Part of me thinks her temperament is not cut out for this. But I need to do something because her sleep is unsustainable.

Baby Chronically Congested

My 5 month old has sounded “congested” or snorty at times. It happens a lot when she’s eating or sleeping. She has some mild reflux but nothing serious. No visible boogers. It sounds more like it’s deep in her throat. This has been going on since she was born. Sometimes it gets a little better then comes back. Has anyone experience this before? Ped doesn’t seem concerned.

She has CMPA. Diagnosed at 1 month old. I’ve been dairy free since but we recently started trialing formula and now it sounds worse again. But even when I was dairy free she still had it to a lesser extent.

Confirm Gene?

I am trying to find a match for rs121908120 on my 23 and me raw data. I found chr2:219755011. Is this the same thing? I am specifically looking for WNT10A, F228I c.682T>A.

rs121908120

Just found out my baby is homozygous

Gene: WNT10A
Variant: c.682T>A (p.Phe228lle)
rsID: rs121908120

She’s only 6 months old. What should I expect? Is this a sign she will have some manifestation? Is Ancestry reliable?

How to know if formula is working

Baby has cmpa. Previously breastfed only and slowly transitioning to formula now at 5 months. I started with 4 ounces of formula for a few days and have slowly tapered up. It’s been about 9 days and she is up to 10-12oz of formula a day and so far no bad reactions besides some increased gas.

Is this enough to say the formula I’m using is a good fit? I’m scared to fully switch over and have her become symptomatic and have to switch to something else.

Formula trial?

Baby is EBF but I’d like to switch to formula. I’ve been giving one bottle a day (4oz) for a few days and I haven’t noticed any major symptoms other than gas and she’s occasionally picking her legs up like she’s uncomfortable. How do I know if I should consider it a success or not? Is 4oz enough to tell? She has CMPA. Formula is Hipp HA.

Baby chronically congested/snorty

Baby has been chronically congested and snorty since birth and is now 5 months. I’ve been dairy free for 3 months and the congestion never went away. There’s no visible boogers. It’s deep in the throat and she sounds like there is something more so in her throat. Any ideas?

Hipp HA

Is it worth trying with 5 month old? Diagnosed at 2 months old and recently had blood in stool. Burnt out with cutting diet. Worried alimentum won’t work because of the soy and she doesn’t like pepticate or nutramigen. Still ebf for now until I figure things out! I was hoping maybe now that she’s getting old she could tolerate a less hydrolyzed option better?

Eczema

How quickly does eczema show up if a trigger food is eaten? Baby has had mild eczema but after giving oats for the first time I noticed a new, red eczema patch while getting her dressed. It was about 6 hours after eating them. Did the oats likely cause this?

Quitting breastfeeding?

My baby has CMPA. I’ve breastfed as long as I can but it’s becoming too much to constantly cut food out of my diet. She’s 5 months now.

I’m looking for advice on how to quit. Baby is extremely attached to breastfeeding. Uses it for comfort, to fall asleep, often becomes unconsolable and the only way to stop her is by nursing. I have a hard time imagining how this will work and if she will ever accept it’s not an option anymore.

Science behind ST?

On the nights we use a sleep training method my baby sleeps longer stretches and is easy to transfer back into the crib. We tried sleep training for a week but she was crying too much before falling asleep so we took a pause to reevaluate. As soon as we went back to our old ways she wakes every 2 hours and I can’t transfer her back to the crib after wakes. Why is it such a drastic change? I assumed the skills she learned from the week of training would stick but she immediately reverted back to old ways. I find it strange that when she screams and falls asleep independently she becomes a different baby at night.

Still reacting? Weird poop/mucus

I can’t get back to baseline with 5 month old. Was hoping to cut everything before starting solids to avoid giving her an identified trigger. The last two days the only things I’ve eaten are chicken, banana, peanut butter, arugula, salt/pepper, sweet potato, kettle corn (Skinnypop) and an Abe’s muffin which are allergen free. Today she had a very weird looking diaper and I’m assuming this is a reaction to something?

Normally her diapers have been mucus, liquidy brown/yellow with green specks in them.

I’m at such a loss, idk what to cut from that list or where to go from here.

Starting solids help?

Did starting solids help figure out triggers? We’ve never really gotten back to baseline after cutting dairy, soy, egg. I have suspicions for other foods but it’s a challenge to truly pinpoint what it could be. Wondering if I will get clarity once we start solids or if I need to be extra cautious before giving foods it could be ? (Oats, beans, beef, eggs)

To me it sounds easier to just give the baby eggs and be sure right away if there’s a reaction vs constantly wondering if it’s safe to eat while breastfeeding.

Calculating awake time

I’m revisiting my 4.5 month olds schedule since so far, sleep training has been a fail concerning too much crying before falling asleep.

We are trying a 2/2.5/2.5/3 day today. She wears an
Owlet to bed so I averaged out her last month of sleep and awake time. On average she is actually sleeping 10-10.5 hours a night. Feeds and wakes add an additional 35 minutes-1 hour.

When I am calculating how much time awake she needs to I include the overnight awake time?

24-3.5 hours of naps-10.5 hours sleep=10 hours awake

Or do I go by the cumulative in bed time and use the night wakings into the calculation?

Sorry, I’m a bit in the weeds with this and trying to do what’s best for her!

Giving up, 4.5 months

Not really sure what else to do. Baby is 4.5 month, I follow schedule meticulously. All day my life revolves around wake windows and capping naps to avoid crying at bedtime and it’s not helping.

Night 6 and she cried 35 minutes again before I quit. I guess I ended up doing a form of pick up put down and sang a song until she eventually fell asleep.

She has always been an extremely sensitive baby and easy to escalate/upset. She is sleeping so much better since starting sleep training but I don’t feel the level of crying is decreasing and it is intense scream crying. It gets even worse during check ins.

I guess I’m looking for advice on if I’m doing something wrong, if her temperament isn’t a good fit, if she’s too young, or if there’s a schedule issue. I moved feed 30 minutes before since she has a strong nurse to sleep association.

Usually 1.75/2/2/2/2.25. Wake at 7:45, bed around 9/9:15, cap naps at 3.5 hours. She doesn’t have an issue falling asleep with these wake windows with assistance. All naps are contact naps. She wakes immediately when I transfer to the crib for naps.

The last few nights she’s needed a bridge nap around 6:30 in order to make it to bedtime. I don’t think I can stretch her wake windows to 3 naps yet. She’s already fussy towards the end of what they are. I’m also waking her up from naps because she will go over the 3.5 hours if I let her since they’re all contact.

I’m so exhausted, I’m really trying and I don’t know what else to do. I’ve tried cosleeping and she ends up waking up between cycles trying to nurse back to sleep so it’s not sustainable.

Tracking WW forever?

Might be a dumb question but once sleep training is complete how serious do I need to be about 10 hours awake and capping naps/tracking WW? Will she eventually be able fall asleep independently with looser tracking? Asking because I’m becoming a bit crazy about making sure her naps are timed and wake windows are appropriate and it’s a bit exhausting. We’re on day 5 of training.

CIO day 3… not good

Night 1: cries 40 minutes
night 2: 15 minutes, mostly fuss
Night 3: currently screaming for 30 minutes. No breaks in crying.

Is this normal? I’m about to call it if she doesn’t stop in 5 minutes.

Meticulously tracked schedule. Woke at 7:10, bed at 9:00. 1.75/2/2/2/2.25, 19 weeks old.
