A salvaged restored piece for any type of interior decoration!

I found this old wooden box in the trash in a really bad shape, but I couldn't just let it go. It was falling apart, full of random holes, and the lid was broken.

First I removed the old ruined hinges. Then I had to patch up the broken corners on the lid with some scrap wood and filled all the holes I could find. After that, it was just a lot of sanding to get it clean.

For the finish, I used linseed oil mixed with a bit of colorant to get that warm tone, and then finished it with wax. To top it off, I added some new iron hinges and those brass decorative pieces on the front and lid.

It measures around 40 by 15 by 20 cm. It took some work but I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Let me know what you think!

Wall Upcycled Wine Rack !

Hello community of FunctionalUpcycling !!!

I just literally completed this project . A Wall Upcycled Wine Rack / Wine Station ! Took about 30 hours of labor, but now it’s done . So , let’s go to the project :

A trashed top of a dresser ( you know that part where we’ve got 2 drawers and occasionally a mirror between them)
Everything else it’s hand made : 4 bespoke coasters from Brazilian wild walnut ; bespoke glass holders from the same wood ; bespoke brass corkscrew and corkscrew holder from the same wood
The transformation : burned down the wood ; linseed oil and shellac flakes. Measured everything and hand made everything.
I’ve had to take those pics on those bricks because I didn’t want to drill my walls 😎.
That’s it . Another dESign by ESUpcycleDesigns project completed . Hope you like this one !
Thanks !

Paid only €3 at a flea market today for this hand-carved alabaster piece, just found out it’s a mid-19th century Italian Tazza

Hi everyone! Still in absolute shock. I bought this beautiful piece today at a local flea market for literally €3 because the seller probably thought it was just a modern marble bowl.
After doing some research, I found the exact same model listed on Etsy as an authentic mid-19th century Italian antique alabaster Tazza for over €1,120!
It features a deeply undercut garland of grape leaves and vines, a twisted pedestal, and the underside shows the rustic, unpolished tool marks from the artisan. The translucency under the sun is magical.
This is easily my best flea market find ever, and it's definitely staying in my personal collection as a treasure!

I found these 2 vintage beer demijohns with mechanical stoppers during one of my walks through the flea markets on the outskirts of Lisbon.

I found these 2 vintage beer demijohns with mechanical stoppers during one of my walks through the flea markets on the outskirts of Lisbon.
Since I didn't want to drill the glass, I thought about how I should run the wiring: I decided to take the electrical cable straight to the socket. In other words: I drilled a hole in a solid brass socket, passed the wire through, and made the connection inside the socket. Of course, I used a file to leave everything smooth and not sharp so the cable wouldn't suffer any damage.
Next were the metal bands around the demijohns, which were already rusted: I sanded and painted them with an aluminum paint. They ended up with the same appearance as the handles, which are made of solid aluminum.
Next came the challenge of fixing the sockets: here I had a “refreshing”idea (as it was the summer of 2025, hot, I had cooled down the neck) by using the mechanical stopper itself to accommodate the threaded rod that was going to support the whole system. I drilled the stopper in the middle and secured the threaded rod from the inside with a washer and a nut. It turned out Top!
I used black twisted textile cable and a vintage-style switch. In the end, I embedded the signature into the handles of the demijohns. You already know, The Stitch, the testimony of the cure, the mark of the metamorphosis of all the elements present in these pieces, elements once forgotten or abandoned, which now give Light to these new Lives.
Well, in the end, a pair of lamps worthy of a quality Industrial Loft.
What do you think about this type of industrial design?

I thought it will be a nice surprise for my birthday, so I’ve tried this craziest thought of mine : transform a 1950’s toaster into a table lamp ! How did I do?
