My heart goes out to the ADHD community today

Yesterday Channel 4 aired a hit-piece documentary, designed to misinform the public about ADHD and attack the medical support that so many people with ADHD rely on.

As a trans person, I can't help but recognise the under-handed, manipulatory strategies that were employed by the creators of the documentary: The complete lack of adults with the condition (or friendly professionals) being featured; The comparison of vital medicine to Class-A drugs; The weaponisation of increased numbers of people reaching out for medical help; The "won't somebody please think of the children" pretence whilst trying to make life worse for said children...

It's as though the playbook that was tried and tested against us has now been aimed at new victims. It hurts to see this happening.

I hope I can say, on all our behalves, that we're not falling for it. Fuck Dr Max Pemberton.

EHRC chair challenged on how to enforce single-sex toilet rules | Channel 4

Source: https://www.channel4.com/news/ehrc-chair-challenged-on-how-to-enforce-single-sex-toilet-rules

Transcript:

>Q: Well, earlier I spoke to Mary Ann Stevenson, the chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. I asked her what steps businesses could take if, for example, a trans woman continued to use the women's toilets.

>A: One of the things we've said in the code is it wouldn't usually be proportionate to have somebody on the door of every single toilet and every single changing room asking people their sex before they went in. Obviously, if there's repeated patterns of behaviour and there are complaints from other service users who complain that they feel unsafe or that they feel that they've been harassed, then we would expect service users to take action in the usual way.

>Q: So you're relying on, say, a small cafe owner to tell someone they suspect is using a toilet inappropriately. How on earth they're meant to know that, I'm not sure. But then to tell them that they cannot use that toilet in the future, it would be down to the business themselves.

>A: I'm not saying that. I mean, as I said, it's not, we've made it clear that it wouldn't usually be proportionate to have somebody on the door checking who goes in and out of toilets. However, if there are situations where other customers complain, service providers may decide to take action.

>Q: I'm just curious to know how that conversation would go.

>A: One of the things that we set out in the code is if you're in a situation where you do need to ask somebody about their sex in order to, you know, check whether or not they're able to access services, that should be done in a way that's as discreetly and sensitively as possible. Clearly, it's not a question that you shout out over a crowded room.

>Q: How is the trans person then expected to prove or which sex they are and what evidence can they possibly produce in that situation?

>A: Well, I mean, one of the situations we have is that we don't have a single document that is a reliable indicator of sex. As with many areas of the law, this is something that is based on trust that most people will follow the rules, trust that with clear signage and good alternatives, people will, everybody will be able to find services that they want to use and a sense of kind of proportionality on how it's enforced.

>Q: Does it not seem a bit confusing and contradictory, perhaps, if you're a business owner? You've just said that there may be circumstances in which they need to check, but also there's no real way that they can check. You can see why they're confused.

>A: Generally speaking, human beings are very good at telling the sex of somebody that they're talking to. We've evolved over thousands of years to be able to do that, and we do that on multiple points of information. But most of the time, we are expecting that people will, as they do in every other area of life, follow the law.

>Q: Businesses tell us that they are feeling very uncertain about this. If they had, for instance, only male and female facilities at present, a toilet or a changing room, what is your advice to them?

>A: Very many small providers might, for example, have two individual lockable rooms with sinks in them. One of them marked male, one of them marked female. It would be very straightforward to make both of them unisex. Service providers should already be providing facilities for disabled people, which are usually unisex.

>Q: So you could see single-sex toilets and facilities being scrapped and replaced with gender-neutral ones to comply with this guidance.

>A: There is an issue if you just take your existing banks of cubicles with shared sinks and label them gender-neutral, that that might put women at a disadvantage and they may be able to make a claim for sex discrimination. So when you're thinking about the facilities you provide, you have to think about the needs of everybody.

>Q: If a woman's space wants to be trans-inclusive, is that no longer possible?

>A: It depends what you mean. So if you're talking about a club or association, for example, we set out in the code that you can have an association that involves, that brings together people with two different protected characteristics. So in this case, sex and gender reassignment. So you could have an association that was for women and trans people, if that's what you wanted.

>Dr. Mary Ann Stevenson, Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Thank you very much for your time.

>Thank you.

My GIC is negligently incompetent at HRT

Just had an appointment with the Porterbrook GIC to yet again explain how much it sucks to have low Estrogen levels, only to effectively get fobbed off.

I had a blood test last August, which one of their doctors then acknowledged was below an ideal minimum of 350pmol/L. Though, despite a years-long consistent downward trend in my levels, as well as me complaining about low mood, low energy, and weight gain, he wanted me to have another blood test in 6 months time to really make sure it was low.

Fast forward to February when I get that second blood test, and quelle surprise, it's even lower. I then had to wait *another 6 months* until today to finally discuss the second results with the GIC; and all I got was a nurse who told me that a) She has no idea why my levels are going down, and b) I should get another blood test (that I need to arrange manually with my GP). I explained why I thought that was overkill at this point, but that didn't change anything.

Am I overreacting to think that at this point the GIC is trying to underdose me, despite how dangerous that is? Is this something I can formally complain about?

On the bright side, since I'm not a total chump, I've been DIY'ing homebrewed E for a couple of months, which has given me more energy and allowed me to reverse the weight gain and lose 3 kilos at the very least.

Today has left me feeling totally vindicated in this decision, but it sucks that I had to end up taking this route anyway despite actively trying to do everything the "official" way.

My son came out to me as trans, but I think he's making a bad decision

I've been really sad ever since he revealed he is trans. He was the only femboy representation in my family. I really respected him when I thought he was breaking barriers, but now he's just fulfilling stereotypes.

Just my personal opinion, but I don't think it makes sense for his character. For the last two seasons (winter and spring), he's been talking nonstop about no longer letting others decide his life for him - something his Gender Nonconforming fans really related to. They're going to be so disappointed now that they're incapable of relating to him.

Does he really think liking girly things means that he has to be trans? This ideology is honestly just regressive gender roles but "woke".

Btw I'm still calling him "he" because it was his original creator's vision (mine).

Ideas for a dinner that can be eaten cold?

Slightly usual ask, but I'm going to be out travelling for an entire day next week and won't have the opportunity to cook, reheat, or order food for an evening.

What meal could I prep the night before, and bring with me, that would make a filling dinner?

How to get Economy 2 trading stations on an old save

If, like me, you don't want to start a new save to experience the new Economy 2 space stations, there is a way to update all the trade stations in your world by editing the Sandbox.sbc file.

Within Sandbox.sbc, there are MyObjectBuilder_Station entries with a field named <PrefabName>. The legacy stations have one of the following names:

Economy_Outpost_1        (can be 1-9)
Economy_MiningStation_1  (can be 1-3)
Economy_OrbitalStation_1 (can be 1-7)
Economy_SpaceStation_1   (can be 1-5)

All that you need to do to have these stations replaced with a new version next time they're loaded is update this PrefabName to one of the new stations:

Economy_Outpost_10      (can be 10-14)
Economy_SpaceStation_10 (can be 10-15)

Note that outposts are ground stations, and all others are space stations.

I've tested this and the replacement stations do have the new contracts, shop items, and NPCs.

You can do this manually, but my save had 101 trade stations so I hacked together a python script to do it for me:

import re
import random

def replaceStations(matchobj):
  print("{:<26}".format(matchobj.group(0)), end="-> ")
  if matchobj.group(0).split("_")[1]=="Outpost":
    newPrefab = 'Economy_Outpost_'+str(random.randint(10,14))+'<'
  else:
    newPrefab = 'Economy_SpaceStation_'+str(random.randint(10,15))+'<'
  print(newPrefab)
  return newPrefab

with open('Sandbox.sbc', 'r') as file:
  filedata = file.read()

oldString = ""
newString = filedata
hits = -1

while oldString != newString:
  oldString = newString
  newString = re.sub('Economy_(Outpost_[1-9]|MiningStation_[1-3]|SpaceStation_[1-5]|OrbitalStation_[1-7])<',replaceStations,oldString,1)
  hits+=1

print("Updated",hits,"stations")

with open('Sandbox.sbc', 'w') as file:
  file.write(newString)

Simply place this script in a python file in your save's folder (the one containing Sandbox.sbc) and it will update all stations to a random new one.
