how did you get started?

hey, I'm a college student in need of a side hustle and I used to pet and babysit in my hometown. I just moved to a new city and would like to get started, but I don't know what's the best route to take. I really dont have the money to pay for the apps that get your name out there.

[US] calling a bank to confirm if a check is real

Hey! I am a college student who does dog sitting part time. I recently was asked to dog sit for a family who is moving into town soon, but their dog is arriving the day before them. They are mailing me a check so that I can get necessary supplies for the dog before it arrives. The thing is, the check won't clear before the dog arrives due to timing, and I don't have the money to waste if I get the supplies and then the check doesn't clear. Because I've never met these people, I was wondering if I'd be able to call the bank the check is coming from once it arrives to see if its legit? Let me know, thank you!

soap in my basement sink

hey, my partner and I moved into our apartment a few months back and we have a basement but its extremely creepy so we don't really use it. it has laundry hookups but we dont have a washer or dryer yet. Today I went down there to use it as storage and noticed that there is a lot of soap bubbles in the sink? I know for a fact neither of us have been down here. Is there a chance someone's shower or washer backs up into our basement sink?

help making rent after family loss - gofundme

I'm a college student in Pittsburgh and having to care for my grandfather after losing my grandma has cost me hours at work, and I will be $300 short on rent at the end of this month. I am not able to donate plasma due to health issues. Because of advice by other users I have started a gofundme, so here is the link for that. Please consider donating. I am doing what I can, picking up extra hours, putting myself out there for babysitting and housework locally. I have no one else to ask. I appreciate this community!

college student short on rent

hey, my situation just changed drastically and I'm going to be short on rent this month so I could really use some help in the form of $200. I'm a college student in Pittsburgh and I work as much as I can, I can't donate plasma atm due to a health issue, and I have to take at least a week off work to go help my grandfather who is ill. I have exhausted all of my options, applying to cash assistance programs with no luck.

I live with my partner and I pay rent to her through venmo as it is her lease that I will be joining ASAP. I have been working a lot and I'm even borrowing money from my sister but I'm still going to be $200 short. I could just really use some help. Whatever payment method you are comfortable with is fine.

I'm a college student and I had taken a new part-time job recently but my situation just drastically changed and I'm going to have to turn in my two weeks soon. A family member of mine is terminally ill and I need to help care for them in Erie. I have to be able to travel to Erie as much as possible this summer to help them, while still making it back for mid-week classes (all my others are online luckily.)

That being said, I still need to afford rent. I share expenses with my partner so luckily my portion of rent and utilities are MAX $650 a month. Just applied for SNAP so hopefully groceries will not be such a financial burden soon.

I just need advice on how to still earn some money this summer while traveling so much. I am an amateur artist so I'm gonna try and do some vending at markets. I also put my name out for pet/home sitting, lawn care, etc in Erie, just not sure how to do that in Pittsburgh but would love some advice. Gonna "donate" plasma soon. I'll probably grab a few shifts at my old job in Erie too if they'll have me. Going to work at my current job for May and turn in my 2 weeks going into June and save as much as possible, and then after that I'll have to make things work for at least the rest of summer.

I live in the Perry North area and take public transit if thats helpful. I can very easily get to Northside, Downtown, and McKnight Rd (new to Pittsburgh so excuse my buffoonery)

TLDR: Need advice on what kind of gig work a college student could look for in Pittsburgh on short term notice
