Logistics exec in Dubai thinking of switching to sales — good move or bad idea?

I'm a Logistics Coordinator in Jafza, Dubai, handling customs documentation and freezone compliance, currently making 5,000 AED/month with no raise in over 6 months despite solid industry experience. It's just not enough to survive here anymore, so I'm planning to ask my company for a raise first, but I'm also seriously considering a bigger move into sales — specifically for Yemeni Mocha coffee beans, since I've already handled the customs/logistics side of Yemen-origin coffee shipments and think that product knowledge could be an edge. Has anyone made a similar ops-to-sales jump, and is the earning potential in sales (especially commission-based) actually as good as people say, or is it not worth the risk?

How do I approach asking for a salary raise? (Logistics/Customs role, Dubai)

Hey everyone, I work as a Logistics Coordinator in a freezone company in Dubai handling customs documentation, compliance, and transit declarations, and after being in this role for a while I feel my responsibilities have grown but my pay hasn't kept up — I'm planning to ask my manager for a raise and would love advice on how to find a fair/competitive salary benchmark for this kind of role in the UAE, whether to bring it up over email or in person, whether to lead with a specific number or let them offer first, and how to frame it around the value I've added rather than just cost of living, so any tips from people who've successfully negotiated a raise (especially in logistics/supply chain or in the UAE) would be much appreciated!

Can someone deported from UAE (drug-related case, Sharjah) ever return? Need genuine advice

Hi all,

A close friend of mine was recently deported from Dubai back to India (his home country) after being caught in Sharjah with illegal substances. I'm trying to understand what his options are going forward and would really appreciate insights from anyone who has gone through something similar or has knowledge of UAE immigration law.

A few specific questions:

Is a UAE drug-related deportation always accompanied by a re-entry ban, or does it vary by case?

If there is a ban, is it usually for a fixed period (1, 5, 10 years) or permanent?

Is there any way to check the ban status/duration officially (e.g., through GDRFA or ICP)?

Has anyone successfully gotten a ban lifted or reduced, and if so, how?

Does having a lawyer in the UAE help at this stage, or is it too late once deportation has happened?

He's obviously going through a tough time and just wants to understand what's realistic — whether this is permanent or if there's a path back eventually. Any advice, personal experience, or pointers to the right authority/process would mean a lot.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Anyone else commuting Al Nahda → JAFZA? Let's carpool for a couple of weeks 🚗

Hey everyone,

I'll be doing the Al Nahda to JAFZA commute for the next couple of weeks and honestly would rather share a ride than do it solo or deal with metro+bus every day. If anyone's on the same route, let's team up!

Route: Al Nahda → JAFZA

Timing: 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM (so leaving around 7:30-ish and heading back after 5:30)

Duration: Just a couple of weeks for now

Happy to split/share the fuel cost, no issue there

If this matches your schedule (or even close to it), drop a comment or DM me and we can figure out pickup point and timing.

Cheers!

Being slowly sidelined at work and I don’t know what’s really going on

I work in a trading company that handles import/export shipments. The company is family-owned two brothers are the legal owners on paper and mostly run day-to-day operations, but their father is the one who really controls everything behind the scenes.
I’ll keep this short. I got hired five months ago to handle logistics, and honestly it felt like a comfort zone way less pressure than my previous jobs, and I was happy with the role.
A while later, another guy joined the logistics team. He was brought in because he supposedly had a lot of experience. Slowly I started realizing he didn’t actually have the experience or knowledge he was hired for and eventually the owners and their father figured that out too. At some point it started to feel like I’d been kept around partly to “cover” for him if his lack of knowledge became obvious.
Sometimes the boss would ask me things related to shipping, and whenever I answered, he’d push back and defend his own view. I’d end up arguing with him because what he was saying was often just wrong, based on what I’d learned at my previous companies. During one meeting, at the end of it, he actually told me he liked the way I pushed back and objected to things, and asked me to stick around for a while. I said okay, and told him I wanted to be loyal to him.
Despite all this, they processed my visa without any delays or issues.
But now the situation has flipped I’m being pulled off tasks one by one, while all the work is going to the new guy instead. The owners

I genuinely don’t know what’s happening or where I stand. Has anyone dealt with something like this before?

Seeking assitance for get in touch with DHL france from Dubai regarding a shipment

Hello people i am seeking an advice from all of you regarding a shipment which i have been discpached from DUbai to France 2 months ago and unfortunately the reciverer refused to receive the shipment due to the duty applied on the shipment. Since its a commodity that should be exempted from the duty at destination as per the EU Taric rules and regulations. But the broker or agent at the destination was DHL france and they have not claimed to the France customs that this item should be duty exempted and they applied a 50% of duty and receiver at france rejected this order and we had to bring it back to UAE.

So i need to call and speak with the DHL france team and claim that this is their error and we need a refund.

I'm seeking clarification on duty charges applied to our green coffee shipment cleared through France customs.

We are dealing with an issue for one of our shipment we sent to France from UAE via DHL express, From what we understand, green coffee (HS 0901.11.00) should have a 0% duty rate under EU TARIC — this applies to all origins including Yemen per Commission Regulation 2204/1999 and the latest update (EU 2025/1926). We've double-checked this and the rate definitely seems to be 0% erga omnes.

So here's what we're trying to figure out:

  1. What duty rate was actually charged and which TARIC code was used during clearance?
  2. If the rate for 0901.11.00 is 0%, why was duty assessed on this shipment?
  3. What's the proper process to dispute this?

We just want to understand what happened so
