Urgent: 13-year-old male Indian Tent Turtle has dark tissue protruding from vent (photos attached) – not eating or passing stool
Hi everyone,
I'm really worried about my turtle and would appreciate any advice.
I have a 13-year-old male Indian Tent Turtle that has been with us since he was very small. This morning we noticed something dark hanging out from his vent (anus/cloaca). I've attached photos.
Symptoms:
- Male Indian Tent Turtle
- Around 2–3 inches shell length
- We noticed the protrusion this morning
- Not eating much
- Hasn't passed stool
- No injuries that we're aware of
- No egg-laying (male)
The tissue looks dark gray/black rather than pink, which has me really concerned. I'm not sure if it's:
- a cloacal prolapse,
- a penile prolapse,
- constipation/impaction,
- or something else.
I haven't tried pulling or pushing it back in because I'm afraid of making it worse.
Questions:
- Does this look like a cloacal or penile prolapse?
- Is this an emergency that requires an exotic vet immediately?
- Is there anything I can safely do at home while arranging veterinary care?
- Has anyone experienced something similar with an Indian Tent Turtle?
I'm located in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India, so if anyone knows of a veterinarian experienced with turtles or reptiles nearby, I'd really appreciate the recommendation.
Thank you so much for any help. I'm very worried about him.
