What do small Indian sellers actually need from an e-commerce platform?

I'm building and operating a small e-commerce platform in India and I'm trying to understand what matters most to independent sellers.

For sellers who currently sell through marketplaces or social media:

  • What is your biggest pain point?
  • Do you prefer having your own online store or selling through marketplaces?
  • What would make you consider moving to another platform?
  • What are the biggest issues you face with shipping, customer acquisition, inventory, or managing orders?

I'm interested in hearing from actual Indian sellers because I'm considering how to improve my own platform based on real requirements rather than assumptions.

What would you want from an e-commerce platform that you don't currently get?

Request for approval: Indian e-commerce platform for small businesses

Hi Mods,

I’m the founder/operator of a small e-commerce platform based in India. I built and currently operate the platform myself, and it is live and generating real revenue.

The platform is intended to help small businesses and sellers establish their own online presence and sell their products without having to depend entirely on large marketplaces.

I’d like to share the platform with this community and potentially connect with Indian businesses that may find it useful.

I understand the community rules regarding self-promotion, so I’m requesting moderator approval before posting any promotional content.

Platform: https://computelabs.in/

Thank you.

Has anyone here actually found consulting work, a remote DevOps job, or long-term clients through Reddit?

I'm curious about the community's real experiences.

Over the past few months, I've seen many posts offering remote work, consulting opportunities, startups looking for DevOps engineers, or requests to "DM me" for more details.

However, I've also noticed that many posters don't share a company name, website, GitHub organization, or LinkedIn profile before moving the conversation to private messages. In many cases, the discussion simply ends without any real opportunity.

For those who've been around this community:

  • Have you actually landed a real DevOps job, consulting engagement, or long-term client through Reddit?
  • Which subreddits or communities have worked best for you?
  • What are the signs that a post is legitimate versus someone just collecting contacts or exploring ideas?
  • Do you ask for company details before investing your time?

I'm genuinely trying to learn where Reddit fits into a professional job search and whether others have had success here.

I'd appreciate hearing your experiences good or bad.

Has anyone here actually landed a real client, job, or paid project from Reddit?

I'm genuinely curious.

I've been browsing many business, startup, freelance, and hiring subreddits, and I've noticed a pattern. A lot of posts say things like:

  • "DM me."
  • "Looking for a developer."
  • "We have opportunities."
  • "Join our Discord."
  • "Need a team."

But very few people seem willing to share their company name, website, LinkedIn profile, or any verifiable identity upfront.

As someone who's spent a lot of time applying and networking, it sometimes feels like many of these posts never lead anywhere. Some conversations end after a few messages, while others ask for work without providing any proof that they're legitimate.

So I'd like to ask the community:

  • Have you personally gotten a real paying client, job, or long-term project through Reddit?
  • Which subreddits actually worked for you?
  • Did the person reveal their identity before asking you to continue the conversation?
  • Or do you think a large percentage of these posts are simply time-pass, lead collection, or people testing ideas without serious intent?

I'm not trying to criticize Reddit. I just want to understand whether investing time in these opportunities is worthwhile or if I'm approaching it the wrong way.

I'd appreciate hearing real experiences both positive and negative.

From DevOps to SaaS: How Do You Find Your First Paying Customers?

I've spent the past several months building a Python based SaaS platform that helps local businesses create their own online stores and synchronize inventory across multiple marketplaces.

The technical side has been enjoyable, but now I'm facing a different challenge: finding the first paying customers.

For those who've built and launched a SaaS product, what worked best for getting your first customers? I'd appreciate any advice or lessons learned.

Where can I find buyers for my e-commerce platform?

I'm building an e-commerce platform that helps local shops create their own online store while synchronizing inventory across multiple marketplaces from a single dashboard.

My challenge now is finding my first customers. Since the platform is aimed at local retailers and small businesses, I'm trying to understand the best ways to reach them.

For those who have launched SaaS or e-commerce products:

  • Where did you find your first paying customers?
  • What marketing channels worked best?
  • Did you focus on local outreach, online communities, SEO, partnerships, or something else?

I'd appreciate any advice or lessons learned.

When does an on-premises server become cheaper than AWS, Azure, or a VPS?

Everyone talks about moving to the cloud, but is it always the right choice?

For a small business with stable workloads (website, email, file storage, backups, internal apps), does buying a server once and running it for 5–7 years make more financial sense than paying cloud bills every month?

I'm asking because I'm building **ComputeLabs (computelabs.in)** and trying to decide on a long-term infrastructure strategy. If you were starting a small infrastructure for business today with a limited budget, what services would you offer that generate recurring monthly revenue?

https://computelabs.in/

I'd love to hear real experiences from people who run infrastructure or do businesses from home network not just theory or marketing.

Why Is Prashant Kishor Contesting Bankipur When Elections Already Happened in 2025?

Why is Prashant Kishor contesting from Bankipur? Why is there a by-election when Bihar already voted in 2025?

Many people seem confused, so here's a simple explanation:

  • The regular Bihar Assembly election was already held in 2025, and BJP leader Nitin Nabin won the Bankipur seat by a margin of over 50,000 votes.
  • Later, Nitin Nabin became the BJP National President and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2026. Under Indian law, a person cannot remain both an MLA and an MP at the same time, so he resigned as the Bankipur MLA.
  • His resignation made the Bankipur Assembly seat vacant, which is why the Election Commission announced a by-election (by-poll) instead of a full Assembly election.
  • Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraaj, has decided to contest this by-election. It will be his first time directly fighting an election after years of working as a political strategist. He has described the by-poll as a test of public support for the current Bihar government.

So, this is not another Bihar Assembly election. It is only a Bankipur by-election caused by Nitin Nabin moving from the Bihar Assembly to the Rajya Sabha and national politics.

Son Bhandar Caves, Rajgir: Facts vs Myths, Best Time to Visit & Essential Travel Tips

The ancient Son Bhandar Caves in Rajgir are among Magadh's most mysterious historical sites. Over the years, many legends have become accepted as facts. Let's separate history from folklore.

Facts

  1. The caves are ancient Jain monuments

Archaeologists believe the Son Bhandar Caves date back to the 3rd–4th century CE and were likely used by Jain monks.

  1. There are two rock-cut caves

The western cave is larger and contains inscriptions in the Gupta-era script, while the eastern cave is smaller.

  1. The inscription is real

An inscription inside the cave mentions a Jain saint named Vairadeva, who is believed to have built the cave for Jain ascetics.

  1. The site is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)

Son Bhandar is an officially protected historical monument.

Popular Myths

❌ "The cave hides King Bimbisara's treasure."

There is no archaeological evidence supporting the existence of hidden treasure inside the caves.

❌ "The British used cannons to open the secret door."

No reliable historical records confirm this story. The marks on the rocks may have other explanations.

❌ "The inscription contains a secret code to open the treasure room."

Experts interpret the inscription as a religious dedication, not a treasure map by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)

Son Bhandar is an officially protected historical monument.

How to Reach Son Bhandar

📍 Location: Rajgir, Nalanda District, Bihar

By Train

Rajgir Railway Station: ~3 km from the caves

What do people from Magadh think about Prashant Kishor's electoral debut from Bankipur? Can new politics change Bihar?

Prashant Kishor has announced that he will contest the Bankipur by-election, marking his entry into electoral politics. Bankipur is one of Patna's historic constituencies and part of the wider Magadh region.

Do you think this will bring any real change to Bihar politics, or will traditional parties continue to dominate?

Please keep the discussion civil and focus on issues affecting Magadh and Bihar.

Rare clear skies over North Bihar: Could this really be Mount Everest seen from Jaynagar?

Thanks to the unusually clear weather, the Himalayan range was visible from Jaynagar near the India Nepal border. Many locals believe that the peak in the distance could be Mount Everest.

Has anyone else witnessed such views or knows which peak this might be?

P.S. I recently created r/MagadhBihar as a community to discuss the history, culture, languages, photography, and heritage of Magadh and Bihar. Anyone interested is welcome to join and contribute. 🙏
