I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Media Production a few months ago and I’m hoping to start working as a permittee in the Winnipeg union 856. I would love to hear from anyone who is in the trades and what they think would be a smart choice for a backup career + something that could amplify film experience. I’m really shitty in maths and imagine there’s a good amount of basic maths in most educational trades programs. I also considered doing a Master of Fine Arts with a focus on fabrication and set design, but I feel that it would be a waste of time a funds when I could just do a trades program. I have a few interests:

- Cabinetry and Woodworking
- CAD / drafting (I have some experience with Unreal Engine)

Has anyone else moved away from Winnipeg and than moved back and was truly happy? I have to move back after living in Ontario for 4 years and I'm having a hard time imaging myself back. I grew up in Winnipeg and it always seems like the only people that are truly happy are those with money and able to go on vacations or have a cottage. When you come from a lower middle class to poverty background it feels so depressing and almost like you're trapped. I left the second I turned 18, so my only perspective of Winnipeg is through my childhood. What do people do to stay happy as adults in the city? I don't mean to say anything bad about the city and I’m so privileged to have been able to move away for school. I’m just curious what lower income people like myself can do to stay well.

I’ll be attending a SSW program in September after completing my BA for 4 years. I’m looking to hear from anyone who completed their SSW and your first job. I was thinking of taking a gap year and trying to get into a 2 year MSW but I don’t think I have enough experience in social services as I’ve studied media production and have done non-profit work related to predominantly social media. Should I just wait or would going to a college program be beneficial?

I have a BA in media production and I’ve had a change in spirits for my career interests. I’ve volunteered doing communications and social media work for a few non-profits. I want to go into a helping profession and front line work, but I’m extremely quiet and have issues with communication and processing speed. I have Autism and it would be great to work with other Autistic people. The reason I thought of going for an SSW is because it’s lower stakes if I find that this path is not for me. Does anyone find that their communication skills improved through going to school for social service or social work?

I'll be going to Seneca @ York campus for Social Service Work in Fall or Winter and I'm interested in hearing people's experiences. I'm most nervous for the counselling courses because I'm very introverted and have a hard time with communication because I'm Autistic. I've already completed a Bachelor of Arts in Media Production and am making a career pivot. I've done 4 years of volunteering for non-profits and hope to gain more social service experience.

I want to do the DSW HyFlex program while in Manitoba and I’m wondering if I can do placements in Winnipeg even though this is an Ontario college. Has anyone done a HyFlex program out of Ontario?

I recently finished my Bachelor’s of Media Production from TMU and I'm considering switching career paths. I'll be living near Sheridan and am interested in knowing about the coursework. What's the percentage of group work vs independent work? How many presentations are involved? What are the classroom sizes? Are there any counselling or roleplay courses for practical learning?

I'm trying to gauge if I'm making a mistake going back to college after university.

How is the Developmental Service Work program at Durham? Is it similar to the Humber program or does it seem less professional? I do like the idea of it having 3 placements.
