why did killing voldemort end the war?

maybe i’m ill informed on these things, but i feel like throughout history, dictators have had loyal followers who would gladly take over for them if they died. ofc, i suppose they wouldn’t have the same amt of power (ie, i feel like the main person who’d want to continue voldemort’s legacy would be bellatrix, and she isn’t canonically immortal or as powerful of a witch - also >!she dies in the battle, so i suppose this is a moot point.!<), but when the death eaters attack hogwarts at least in the movies there are so many of them, surely not all of them cared so little about the cause that they’d jump ship as soon as their leader was dead. i suppose harry has the elder wand now, but draco was easily able to disarm dumbledore when he had it, couldn’t another death eaters do that and take possession of it? again lmk if im stupid and this isn’t even a question haha.

do we think i can justify going to the la show?

hey y'all! so i want to go to the la show so bad, but i'm sure y'all know that it is a litttttle pricey - just under $60 per person. yes, i know that many live shows for comedians, musicians, etc. are much more than this, but i'm on a tight budget. imy gf and i make under $50k a yr combined, and we pay about $2.6k a month in rent, so we have less than $20k a yr to spend after paying rent. if i wanted to go with my gf, we'd have to sit in the very back if we wanted to sit together, but if i went alone (half the cost, although maybe less fun to go alone), i could sit in the second section to the front - since i wouldn't go if i wasn't paying the lowest ticket price. for context, i've been checking pretty much daily, and they haven't sold out of the cheapest la tickets quite yet. the la show is also the day after joe's birthday, which would be fun to go to. i've never been to the youtube theater - i've been to the forum, which is an actual nightmare to get picked up from, and they're right around the corner from each other, and it would be an hour and a half on transit, so i'd have to figure out transport, esp since parking is like $40, so if anyone is local or familiar with the venue and has insight on that lmk pls. the basement yard is my favorite podcast of all time, they're the only currently running podcast i'll watch every episode of, and they're my favorite comedians right now. my concern is that i'll regret the ticket price, because i've seen comedians live - or even a live taping - and not liked it as much. kurtis conner, for instance - love his youtube videos, couldn't get through his stand up (sorry kurt). i'm not 100% sure what the live show is gonna look like, and ik none of us do, but maybe i like them in the pod/santagato studios format but i wouldn't like them live? i kind of doubt i wouldn't enjoy the show, but i just get nervous bc what if i don't have a good time lol idk. there are a bunch of tiny comedy theaters in la that do a ton of shows with ppl like smosh, dropout, etc., and those tickets are never more than $20-30, and it's a rly intimate setting where there are no bad seats. this would be the biggest theater i've ever seen comedy in - i mean, it's so big that there's an orchestra section and a balcony section. the theater i go to often has less than 100 seats - the youtube theater has 6,000. i like the idea of sitting close, even if i'm by myself, i just wish i could sit with my gf up close but ik that isn't an option, and ig it would be better to only pay for one ticket anyways. i guess if anyone went to the first tour if you could give me insight on how similar it is to the pod, if you went to a big venue and if that detracted from the experience at all, if you went with a friend or smthn or just by yourself, how much the ticket was and if it felt worth it, and any other insight you want to offer? i'm sure the la show will sell out eventually, and i really really want to go, but we're in a financial situation where even with food stamps, we have like $300 to spend on groceries for both of us per month max. i secretly am hoping that someone in my life (idk like parents or smthn, but they aren't in the best financial situation either lol) will surprise me with tickets. ofc, maybe they wouldn't know exactly where i'd wanna sit, but for free tickets i'll sit anywhere lol. pls give me insight, advice, etc. if you can. do we think i should do it, or is it a stupid financial decision? ik ppl are probably gonna try to convince me to go, and yes ofc i want to, but i want someone to give me like as objective a take as possible haha. ty guys in advance :-) also for context i'm 24f and my gf is 23f

f24 in lincoln heights looking for friends <3

hey all! just found out about this sub yesterday. i'm a lesbian in my mid-20s living with my gf and our cat in lincoln heights. i'm autistic, leftist, and love animals (especially cats!!!).

i work from home 10 hrs a week, but looking for smthn new with more hrs! we are hoping to move closer to pasadena in april-ish. i'd love to make new sapphic friends close to my age! i grew up in oc and went to school in oregon, but i haven't found my ppl in la yet.

i also love webkinz, and i want to be a writer - i majored in it in college! i love writing at little cafes, being in nature (but not in a strenuous hike type of way), going to rly rly cheap thrift stores like deseret industries, getting food (i love mendos), watching little movies and shows (been into true crime recently, i also love camp comedy & camp horror), and playing little games (card games, board games, etc.)!

definitely introverted in the sense that when i have a few rly close ppl, i'm super comfortable around them, but it can be harder for me to open up around ppl i don't know or know less except on the rare occasion when we really click right away. not super into nightlife, but i have been to the club 2x, and enjoyed it one of the two lol, so not opposed to trying that again.

heavily into commentary youtube (danny drew kurtis vibes) & the basement yard, and i rly like music specifically sapphic music (rly excited for phoebe bridgers' new album this thursday!). i love getting little snacks and sweet treats, and i also love live comedy & music & theatre & improv & stuff, esp the stuff at little theaters in the area.

sry if this post is too long haha, but if you think we'd get along, feel free to reach out!!! <3

edit: pls do not msg if not queer :-)

cheap thrifting on a sunday?

hey y’all! so my gf (23f) and i (23f) LOVE deseret industries, but they are closed on sundays. we’re based in lincoln heights, but willing to travel to other nearby areas. where is a good thrift we can go to today that would have comparable or lower (if it even exists haha) pricing to deseret? we like the downstairs area too with the non clothes stuff (we like to look for webkinz plushes with tags), but it’s not a requirement. we’re gonna be in burbank to start our day, so if it’s close to there even better, but not a requirement. and before u say public estrellas, we’ve tried it, and although there are gems they don’t have a ton of variety unfortunately :-( and also before u say goodwill or st vincent de paul, the goodwill is small enough that we’ve already kinda scoured it, and st vincent is rly rly pricey
:-( ty guys!!!!

interacting with employees are the highlight of my day

24f, just wanted to say how appreciative i am for everyone who works at trader joes being the best vibes. yesterday, a girl around my age came up to me to subtly tell me that my shorts were hiked up, so sweet and i rly appreciated it. obvs it varies on who i interact with, but largely they are all so kind and i especially love when they point out something i'm buying at the register and say like "have you tried this? omg i love these" and i feel so validated in my purchase haha. ofc you get the occasional unwelcome interaction like a man asking maybe a few too many personal questions, but for the most part they always make me rly happy, which is great bc they don't have a self checkout option so i have to talk to them so i'm glad they're so nice!

i haven't driven in three years (i live in la)

so i (24f) have my license, i got it after taking the test 3x a few months before i turned 18, right before college. i went to school out of state, so i only really drove when i was home for the holidays/summer, although i sometimes drove my friends' cars. i used to drive my gf's (23f) car, but then i scraped it a few times (terrible depth perception) so her mom told me i can't anymore. i grew up in oc, went to school in the willamette valley in oregon, and now we live in la. living in la has made me infinitely more scared of driving. not only are the roads designed so poorly, everyone is a terrible drive. i know everyone says this, but i cannot believe it sometimes. i swear no one is sober any hour of the day, my gf (who is the best driver i know) has been in multiple accidents, everyone runs red lights, no one uses their turn signal, people speed on residential streets and in parking garages, i swear we almost get in collisions every day. it causes me intense anxiety to the point that i'm constantly jumping out of my seat when riding in a car, even if there's no apparent danger. my gf said that she can help me practice with her car to get back into it, but i probably have a panic disorder considering how i've felt recently, and idk how i could ever get to a point where i'm comfortable driving in la. maybe somewhere else - we're both from oc, so we're planning on practicing there bc driving there is soooo much easier - but we're gonna be here at least until the olympics, and i rly hate relying on other ppl for rides esp bc lyft is so expensive and public transit sucks. any tips to get past this? ty

thinking of moving to south pas/pasadena next year, any advice?

crossposting from the south pas sub since this one has more ppl in it but that ones more specialized!

hey y'all! so i (24f) grew up in south oc, but i've lived in la w/my gf (23f) for a little over 3 yrs. we lived in south central for a few months, then downtown (westlake/financial distrinct) for 1.5 yrs, and now we're in lincoln heights. we just renewed our lease bc $, but it'll be up again in april.

we have spent a lot of time in pasadena (specifically south pas) since moving here and we love the area - much more nature, a little more suburban but not too suburban, many things we love in the area (trader joes, vroman's, mendos, roots & rye, walking around old town, etc.). we know it'll be a bit pricier than our current situation, but we don't wanna leave la until after the olympics, so this seems like a rly good place to land for the next few years. here are some q's:

- our current combined after-tax annual income is just under 50k. my job doesn't give me many hours, so i'm hoping to get a new job soon (she works full time). do y'all think we could get a 1 bed w our current income, and if not, how much do u think we should be making?

- are there any specific areas or apartment complexes yall recommend? ideally, we'd have an elevator (if there are multiple floors), reserved covered parking, in-unit dishwasher/washer & dryer, & central ac

- is this a good area for our demographic? we are lesbians in our early to mid 20's, very leftist, we have a cat, autistic, and we love live music/comedy, going to cute little cafes to write, and nature!

- is the area walkable? ik that walkable is hard to come by in any part of la, but i'm curious if anyone has lived the places i've lived and can compare south pas/pasadena's walkability, or even if you haven't lived in those places and just wanna share ur perspective.

- anything else i should know before moving? we are semi-recent college grads so we aren't very established in our careers and only have a few years of experience with renting (she has more than me, at my school we were required to lived on campus for 4 years unless we had a reasonable exception, and housing was included in tuition, so when we had to sublease our old room i had to learn quickly haha)

tysm for any input anyone has!

flavor of india (new restaurant)

hey y'all! so my gf (23f) and i (24f) go to the republik coffee in downtown at least twice a week, and we noticed there was construction across from the ben & jerry's for a while, and then in the last few weeks we noticed that a new restaurant opened up behind the cafe called flavor of india. has anyone tried it?

we were gonna do a celebratory dinner tonight because it's the last day of her summer job (kind of), and we had plans to go somewhere else but i'm considering recommending this one, just to try it since we both love indian food. we're both autistic and appreciate knowing what we're getting into before trying new foods, esp with our limited budget.

despite this, i don't think i've ever gone to an indian restaurant and not liked it tbh. i only ever order the chicken tikka masala. i used to have the frozen one from trader joe's like multiple times a day, but got really tired of it and the last time i had it i could barely get thru it, so ig as long as it isn't similar to that i'd enjoy haha

anyways ya lmk hehe

daisy chain fields - do we think there will be multiple performances happening at the same time?

tldr: is the ticket price worth it if you can’t actually see all 14 performances?

my LESBIAN girlfriend and i really wanna go to DCF, but we are debating if it’s worth it. we don’t make a lot of money and the economy’s bad rn so we’re both scared of losing our jobs, but $250 for GA is honestly not terrible considering the lineup. we are also both from the oc and both our parents still live super close to irvine, and it’s only one day which is way more our speed and sounds more chill than coachella type festivals. as lesbians, the idea of lilith fair in 2026 is a dream come true, esp with the amount of sapphic ppl in the lineup.

HERE IS OUR ISSUE. i noticed on the map that there are 2 stages - dandelion & magnolia. do we think that means there will be active performances simultaneously on both stages? if im only able to see half of these artists, im a bit more hesitant to spend $500. we are fortunate that lodging and travel would be a non issue, but it would be over a quarter of my savings i’d be using. i was hoping this would be cleared up before the midnight standby (which im unclear on how that works tbh) or at least the 10 am presale, but im getting stressed that this isn’t being addressed.

lmk if anyone has any tips or insight! xoxo

SAPPHICS OF LOS ANGELES: is akbar silverlake sapphic???

TLDR: will there be a lot of other sapphics at akbar, particularly on a gay night?

hey y'all! this is my first post in this subreddit. i was looking for a sapphics of los angeles sub or something like that but couldn't find one :-( anyways, i noticed that there's a themed night this friday called "the plastics" from 10-2. the instagram post basically said "come if ur gay", but the mato event (the app it's on) doesn't say anything about it being specifically queer. i know it's a gay bar, but i've seen it pop up on a lot of posts on subs where the op is a gay man. i've also seen it mentioned as a rec for wlw, but i just don't want to go if there are going to be enough men for me to notice LOL. i've only been to the club twice in my life - the first time was jackie's in pdx, it wasn't a queer space or night, so many men, i had a panic attack and left at midnight. the other time was futch at el cid (sapphic night), i loved it and stayed until they closed. there's no cover, so there's a lower risk, but my girlfriend is very anxious about going, and i want to be able to reassure her that there won't be a bunch of men there and that it's true to the silverlake vibe and a truly sapphic space. i've seen on some subs that it's just been overrun by straight people, but idk if that's true. can anyone give me insight?? sry that this is so long, i'm incapable of being concise. :-(
