Kitchen refacing Chicago.
Has anyone performed some kitchen refacing in Chicago recently? I'm curious what factors went into costs and about what they cost these days. I'm not ready to do one for a couple of years at least so I have no idea how much to actually save for a job like that.
Anyone in the Chicago area has an S550? I have a caldera open and bokeh closed to trade listens with. P.s. Mods we need more options for flair.
Just checking again and seeing if someone in Chicagoland has a pair of S550's for a listening trade.
I know people will say buy and return. But holding $1100 in my account for 30 days is not ideal.
If you want to listen to a caldera open or bokeh closed for an extended period of time let me know.
Chicagoland, SE Milwaukee, northwest Indiana, or cedar rapids iowa area are all places im good for a meet up.
Live stream recap. What are you excited about?
I've been waiting for a bifrost 3 update. I use my Walkman for my dac these days so I might just get ahead of that early.
I've been debating an amp and dac combo. My headphones aren't super demanding so a bifrost 3 and an jot 3 sounds appealing. I would rather put a little extra on the tube amp.
This video features a casual "Beer N Blather" session from the team at Schiit Audio, hosted at a studio in Corpus Christi. The team, including Evan, Tyler, and Jason Stoddard, discusses their company culture, manufacturing processes, and future product plans while enjoying local craft beers.
Key discussion points include:
Manufacturing Verticalization: The team highlights their commitment to bringing manufacturing in-house, specifically focusing on their SMT (Surface Mount Technology) lines (11:45-13:00).
They discuss the logistical challenges of scaling, such as air filtration and negative pressure management in their facility (13:16-14:00).
Product Philosophy & Updates: They emphasize a philosophy of creating products that are "fun, unique, and affordable" (46:07). The team touches on:
The upcoming Bifrost 3 (21:20-21:35) and the continued support for modular card upgrades. Their successful $99 product line and a tease for one more $99 product coming later this year (24:04-24:20).
The shift to Delta Sigma architecture in the Iggy DAC and the ongoing refinement of Multi-Bit technology (42:24-43:30).
Community & Transparency: The team shares their evolving approach to product announcements, aiming to be more disciplined by only sharing information when releases are imminent (20:34-21:05). They also discuss their interest in creating "DAC University" style content to better educate their community on audio technology (57:48-58:15).
Are single family homes rare in Hyde park?
We have a 3 bed 2 bath in Hyde park. It's 200k and we make 240k gross but creeping up on 300-305k gross. It's our first place and we wanted to move in 5-7 years to a single family 4 bedroom with a little more room.
I'm wondering if it's just Worth hanging out where we are and pay this condo off and chill for a bit. I look consistently and I typically only see single family condos with no true balcony. I wouldn't want our next place to be more than 300-500k.
Decibel audio Chicago will have demos soon.
Just wanted to put it out there that in 2-3 weeks the new prestige classic series will be on demo. I think the hemp as well.
Just wanted to point that out.
What is this zx-507.Worth?
I have a zx-507. It has high gain available and works fine. I would say I've used it quite a bit so the battery probably doesn't hold the charge perfectly but gets the job done.
How are you liking your hybrid?
I have a 2017 Prius 4 touring and I don't think I like the new Prius. I'm disappointed in the lack of space in the trunk. I can currently for two bikes *inside* without taking the wheels off I doubt I can got one inside the new version. Alas here we are. I am slowly saving for a car in 5 years.
Our total combined income is 245k. I imagine it will.be higher in 5 years and we are dink
I live in Chicago.
I don't like car notes
My gf doesn't mind the Prius so I might be able to avoid hearing. "Luxury".
How do you manage payment switch?
I recently switched to capital one and thought the payment switch for accounts would be useful. The issue I'm having is that it won't let me switch when there is a payment pending. Does anyone have any tips on how to handle this? Should I just use my credit card and transfer payments from the other accounts? Then collect the cashback I would get from it by consistently using it?
You guys are quick.
You guys are quick. Scored the moon. What did you guys get?
What's working for "me"
I recently set up a system that seems to be working for me but it takes patience.
I have an bills account through BofA
I created 3 spending accounts via capital one.
Groceries and transportation
Personal spending
Dating and leisure
Savings:
Car reimbursement
Travel
Engagement ring
House projects
Every week I put a bucket of money into capital one and distribute it to the right accounts automatically on Saturday morning since I get paid every Friday.
Pros is that I know where all dollars are going.
Con, is that I need a bit of seed money and patience. If you spend as the money is being split up you can't really so much, so letting a month or 2 pile up helps you build a buffer.
Grocery $350 a month.
Transportation $100 a month
Engagement ring $150 a month
Travel $250 a month
Dating and leisure $750 a month
Personal spending $321 a month
31k loan pay off starting in January.
So I have a 31k loan that I can put more money to starting in Jan or February. I will have roughly $2500 left after bills, travel budget, dating budget, house project budget etc.
Should I snowball it? The loan has about 4.5% interest.
I will be getting married in about 3 years. And in about 5-6 we will likely go in on a house together.
I will also need to get a down payment on a used car. (I'm thinking corrola cross, or BZ perhaps idk) Definitely used. Maybe 12-14k. Me and spouse will likely share this.
Opinions please.
Next drop stabilized or resin bokehs?
Can't remember if I need to wait until Nov or if then ext drop gonna include some stabilized bokeh closed?
Any Intel folks?
I'm also on the hunt for an aeolus just a regular one.
Should I collect reimbursement for travel Or get car rental?
New job where I have to super communicate 500 miles a week for 4-6 months. They will reimburse me $366 a week. Gas will cost me $50 a week give or take. So I stand to net about $7,484.
I have 137k miles on my 2017 Toyota Prius and would end up at the 150k range at the high end. I would get some new tires.
-$450
-$700 (body work)
- TBD for struts.
- not sure what else to get checked at that mileage.
Or I could save the miles and pay the difference for car rental. Car rental is $378 a week.
I know I would spend 2,500k for maintenance.
So I'm guessing about an extra 5k.
1k would go to me for hobby stuff.
$4k split between house projects, engagement ring, etc
What provides the most value?
So me and my gf have a condo in a building that was built in 1970 in Hyde park. I've been contemplating what sort of things bring more value to the unit. We only plan to be here maybe 5-6 years. We are on year 1. It's our first place so I'm not trying to get everything perfect.
I tend to focus on more pragmatic fixes like our aging AC units (they are in wall and span multiple rooms). Each one is about 3k after parts, shipping and install (islandaire units).
But we have other things:
getting screens in the windows
getting the wood sanded and shined,
facing the kitchen cabinets
adding a coffee nook,
replacing the kitchen and walkway tile.
We're saving about 1k a month.
Any idea what we should prioritize?
Listening exchange (Chicago)
I'm wondering if anyone would swap listening to a caldera open for a grado s550 in the Chicago area?
Tomorrow I start a new journey.
I start my new role as director of business systems tomorrow. I've been struggling with a bit of imposter syndrome and "am I ready for this?"
It's a huge leap in pay and responsibility. In 2022 I looked at my paystub and maybe 36k gross. This tomorrow I start at 140k with profit sharing, and implementation bonus. So possibly 150-160k this year.
How do you guys deal with that?
[Selling] pink 50/50 coolant for Toyotas, Hondas. $12
Unused bottle full bottle. I'm in the Hyde park area.
What models are these?
I'm curious what models are pictured here?
Fear of failure is creeping in.
I'll keep this short. I'm starting a new role that is a big step up and I'm nervous as all get out. I've had some bad leadership the past few years and I think it affects my confidence a bit.
In 2021 I was making 37k
I just signed on for a role at 140k. How do I be patient with myself?
