Ashokan Prakrit is the Middle Indo-Aryan dialect continuum used in the Edicts of Ashoka, attributed to the emperor Ashoka of the Mauryan Empire. The Edicts are inscriptions on monumental pillars and rocks throughout the Indian subcontinent that cover Aahoka's conversion to Buddhism and espouse Buddhist principles. Ashokan is descended from an Old Indo-Aryan dialect closely related to Vedic Sanskrit, on occasion diverging preserving archaisms from Proto-Indo-Aryan. Ashokan Prakrit is attested in the Brahmi script but it was also written in the Kharoshthi script in the north-west.

Buddhist Sanskrit is a major language tradition used to compose and preserve vast amounts of Buddhist literature, particularly with Mahāyāna Buddhism.

Originally Pali or Magadhi was used for the teachings of Buddha. But over centuries, various Buddhist schools adopted Sanskrit to record, standardize and philosophically develop their canons.

For context: Arwi Tamil is a variety of Tamil written in the Arabic Script by Muslims in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.

Sylheti is a language closely related to Bengali, and most Sylheti speakers are bilingual in Sylheti and Bengali. It is also related to Assamese. Sylheti is spoken mainly in the Sylhet division of Bangladesh.

The Syloti Nagri script is related to the Kaithi script of Bihar but its exact origins are unknown and the earliest surviving manuscripts are either from 1549 or 1774. The traditional story behind how the script came to be is in the beginning of the 14th century, it was developed by Saint Shahjalal and his 360 saintly companions. Other scripts were used too but were deemed as not suitable for Sylheti.

The Grantha Script is a classical South Indian Brahmic Script, found particularly in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Originating from the Pallava Script, the Grantha Script is related to the Tamil and Vatteluttu scripts. The modern Malayalam Script is a direct descendant of the Grantha Script. The Southeast Asian scripts like Thai and Javanaese and Sinhalese scripts are closely related to the Grantha Script.

The Pallava Grantha Script emerged in the 4th Century AD and was used until the 7th century AD. The early Grantha Script was used to write Sanskrit texts. It was also used for Manipravalam which was a language that evolved from the blend of Sanskrit and Tamil. From it evolved middle Grantha and then transitional Grantha by about the 8th century, which remained in use up until the 14th century. Modern Grantha has been used since the 14th century to write classical texts in Sanskrit and Dravidian languages. It is also used to chant hymns and in traditional Vedic schools.
