Dark Souls 2 - Shrine of Amana

I will finish this game since this is the only game in the Souls series that I haven’t done.
Unlike the others, I will never go for NG+.
If there was ever a video game specifically designed to infuriate and torture a player it is this one.
Shrine of Amana specifically is meticulously crafted to kill any fun you thought you were having until now.
Like I said, I will finish the game so I can complete the Souls series, but never ever will I recommend this game to anyone.
I am prepared to be stoned to death by DS2 fans. Bring it on. 😀

PS5 button prompts

I am playing the game through Steam and no matter what I do I can’t get the game to show PS5 button prompts - it keeps showing X-box ones.
Has anyone been able to do this successfully?
I have tried ALL the recommended standard steps and can’t get it to work.

First Person Games

I feel like I’m missing out on a lot of good games by not being able to get used to first person games. It just feels disorienting and claustrophobic.
Anyone else feels this way or better yet, has anyone encountered a game that got you past this issue?

Question for purists

I honestly wish to know how exactly do you know how a game is “intended” to be experienced.
When you claim that, for example, playing a game on anything less than normal or hard difficulty is a “non-intended” way, or using the tools the game makes available to make your playthrough is “non-intended” way - how do you know this?
Such comments make people feel inferior and provide zero meaningful information about the game, from what I can see.
Your opinion does not imply knowledge, so I really would like an explanation about how you “know” this to be true.

Caretaker and Tusk

I sure hope the October release makes this boss less infuriating: I am abandoning the game since I just can’t do it. It has all the elements of what I hate the most in boss design: messy hit boxes, constant teleporting and AOEs, and frankly way too much rng is needed to do it. I can’t upgrade my weapon since advanced late game materials are needed, and I can’t get to those since this boss is a blocker for game progression.
To those who managed it, congrats, but I’m out since this made the game no longer fun.

Challenge vs Frustration

What tips the scale for you and turns your gaming experience from a difficult but fun challenge into frustration and annoyance?
For me it has always been a gratuitous difficulty spike that doesn’t flow with the rest of the game.

Caretaker/Tusk boss

This boss is making me stop and wait for 1.0 in October. I sure hope they fix this fight so it’s actually possible to do with a melee build.
I don’t have DAYS to learn how to beat this - it’s not even fun like other bosses can be.
Too bad. I enjoyed the game so far.

Rise of the Ronin just isn’t clicking for me

Curious if anyone else was disappointed by this game. The combat system is just not clicking for me and my feeling is that the gameplay is poorly balanced. Ex: The mandatory Blade Twin fight at the mansion is just a game stopper for anyone still learning the game. Making people struggle this much this early, before having a chance to explore the game enough to even decide if you are going to LIKE it, is just poor design decision. Wondering if anyone else felt this way.

Which boss made you rage quit?

Which boss made you so mad at the game that you quit and never came back?

For me it was Erlang in Black Myth Wukong: It was so out of character with the rest of the game that it made the game no longer fun and turned a great experience into a disappointment for me.

It’s almost like the devs said “Oh, you’ve been having fun and are almost finished with the game? Let’s turn that off.”

I quit more out of principle than anything else (this game has some gnarly bosses and I managed them all, so I have no doubt I could manage Erlang eventually, but you know what? I don’t want to. There are many games out there that are not pulling this crap and respect player experience instead.)

Taotie Boss

Has anyone beating this thing recently (or post-buff)? This thing is ten times harder for me than Lu Bu - how the hell do you avoid or deal with those red bombs that home in on you from random directions?? This boss is horribly designed and not fun at all.

Dark Souls 2 - I see why it’s considered the worst of the three

Early game, beat a couple of bosses, struggling a bit with gank squads but doing OK. Then with no warning ALL MY EQUIPMENT, my weapons, rings, my armor, EVERYTHING, is broken. Durability = 0. Thousands of souls needed to restore, especially the rings - 7000 + souls, pretty much buying them back. All my work just gone.
So what exactly is the challenge here? Am I fighting a game or some idiot designer.
Really wanted to like it, but I’m done. Worst game design I have ever encountered.
Yeah, tell me it’s a skill issue, but I’ve completed all souls and most souls likes, many of them repeatedly.
This one is a major fail.

PS5 controller on PC

The game has been properly showing my PS controller inputs, but it suddenly switched to (I think) x-box, and none of the setting I’m changing on Steam or in-game seem to be restoring it.
Has anyone seen this? Is this the game or user issue?

Difficulty spikes

I’m noticing some sharp difficulty spikes that I can’t explain: Two bears enclosure in Marin woods - I used to beat them easily but now it’s near impossible when I try to farm for bear claws.
Same with trying to make it through the mine in Lowland Meadows. The two glowing enemies are suddenly ridiculously hard when I try to get through again (after I got surprised by poisoning or something in the next area).
I don’t understand how this is happening. I even upgraded my mace in the interim and now things are like twice as difficult

First person games

I feel like I’m missing out on some great gaming experiences by not playing first person games at all - I find them disorienting, claustrophobic and frankly, who holds their hand up in front of of them like that? 😀And that sword always sticking out in an unnatural way. Combat is extremely awkward to me also - I feel like I can’t see what’s going on.
Did anyone feel like this then found a game that turned them around so you are now able to tolerate all of the above?

Caretaker and Tusk

I hate boss fights that seem designed to infuriate, and this one has all the elements. I’m level 22 using the level 7 fire cleric mace and not getting anywhere with this.
The AOEs and constant teleporting are driving me nuts. I read all the advice, but maybe I just don’t know how to properly play this game. I am at a loss for example on where to find different runes to slot in my weapon.
I accidentally destroyed the first version of it by trying to extract a rune and I’m reluctant to risk it again because that would just make me drop the game entirely.
Enjoyed it up to this point, but right now I’m just annoyed with it.
Should I level up more, respec?

Sold my weapon by mistake

I’m so bummed. Spent HOURS building my mace into an OP weapon and ended up probably selling it by mistake. Didn’t realize the game will slow to sell an equipped weapon!
And the backups don’t go very far, so couldn’t restore to an older backup.

Any miracle PC hacks? 😀

Nameless Pass cranes

I am playing the Together (latest?) and I have been trying for two hours now to work those cranes to make it through the iron gate. Is this bugged?? There is no way to align the crane to be able to jump off to anything useful. Should I just abandon this quest? (I tried climbing up the leaning plank by the door, but that’s not possible either). This game is awesome, and this is the only bad experience I’ve had with it so far. And it really bad.
