Looking for new monitor

Hi all,

Looking for some up to date advice on monitors to give context I’m looking to upgrade from a 1080p 240hz to hopefully the same refresh rate but also better resolution, but today there’s so many different panel types (OLED, QOLED, etc)that it’s hard to know what’s the ‘current gen’.

Today I do have dual monitor setup so ideally I would want to get one good main one again and a secondary monitor OR a massive ultra wide I think Samsung have an odyssey line or something close to that?

Any recommendations are welcome price range is anywhere up to €800 really as I see they get expensive fast now.

Cisco (Galway) SWE interview , what is the company like?

Hi all,

As title states have an interview for Cisco coming up looking to see if anyone works there currently or in the past and can give their two cents on them such as culture work life balance etc.

Glassdoor reviews can be handy but good to get views on here also.

Thanks

Junction boxes

Hi all, silly question here installing some cameras at the weekend and got junction boxes. Where I had envisioned routing the Ethernet cable there seems to be felt layer ? I will just cut through it to pass through my cable but is this an incorrect way to install cameras my guess is not just don’t want to f up.

Refurbished Mini Pc worth a return ?

Hi all, bought this mini pc from a refurbished website works functionally fine so far but noticed the front of the chassis by the power button looks like it got burnt or dented to a certain extent ? But also seems to be a bit of corrosion on the power button should I just return while I can or keep?. No issue with it being a refurb you expect cosmetic damage etc but just a bit unweary that this might be water damaged somewhere.

Images attached of what it looks like

Soft / Hard clutch

Hi all, rather then relying on what Google spews nowadays just wanted to see what could be wrong with my car.

I’ve noticed as of late my clutch is very soft / easy to press when it’s initially turned on and changing from 1st to second is tough as there’s no resistance coming back up but once I reach 5th gear and stay at it for a while and have to shift back down the clutch gains resistance again and isn’t soft to press. What could this be as it just seems to go from soft / easy to press, then to a normal resistance

Finished MoCA network along side free to air channels in one common run!

Finally have been able to get our MoCA network setup at home and are getting great speeds with almost little to no loss in speed. I did have a bit of a special requirement in this case as I needed to maintain the free to air channels and also provide MoCA, call outs for u/plogger and u/COREY_FOX in this past post https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeNetworking/comments/1u1ei5y/setting_up_moca_network_ireland/ for advising on what to purchase the full list of products I bought are linked bellow if anyone is needing to do the same:

TV amp: https://amzn.eu/d/0apADumF

MoCA rated splitter: https://amzn.eu/d/0aRLT5W9

MoCA POE Filter: https://amzn.eu/d/0f508sm3

MoCA adapter (UK listing specifically to ensure I got a 3 pin plug): https://amzn.eu/d/09CtPUpU

Cable crimping kit: https://amzn.eu/d/0eP6slP9 essential or if you dont want to use that use twist on F connectors but wont be as reliable

Diplexer (was required in my use case as I need to separate terrestrial signal and MoCA): https://amzn.eu/d/02nM4CER your local shops might have better just taking an example from amazon.

Bellow is the overview the network

Tplink be230 router crashes with MoCA adapter attached

Hi all I have a easy mesh network that consists of 4x be230’s from TPLINK (I only found out these are routers post me buying them) and I have recently established a MoCA network in my home and I noticed when I plug a MoCA adapter into one of the lan ports after a few seconds the routers lights turn off along side every other mesh node. I do have the main router running in ‘wireless router’ but connecting the first MoCA adapter into the lan port just crashes the network. I’m using gocoax MA2500D as my adapters any help would be appreciated !

Why is the dual port PoE power brick not sold separately?

As title states why on earth is this not sold separately I see the standard gen 4 comes with the ability to use a third party router and ditch the Starlink router and trying to chat with support rather than offer me the ability to buy / send out one they recommend me to buy a non Starlink brand or pay 200€ for the “advanced” power supply which is the price of a new kit?

Does anyone know if they might sell this soon as it’s a pain using my gen 3 router purely just for a PoE injector

First time renting

Hi all as title states I’m potentially moving to Galway in the near future and I’ve never rented before ever. This is probably such a silly question but what should I be aware of lookout for gotchas etc. Yes I know the market is to find a place to stay but I’ve only ever lived at home so I’m not too sure what to be looking out for and what normal renting brackets to expect ie house share , single bed apartment etc.

Why do you use Ubiquiti for your home network and why not another mainstream brand?

Hi all as title states what is your personal reason for using ubiquity in your home network? I recently bought A UDR7 to start changing my home network from TpLink due it having some performance issue with mesh causing speeds to slowly drop until they are restarted crazy I know.

But now I’ve gotten past the mesh issue and have added MoCA adapters around the house so hopefully this bug goes away but before I change my mind on ubiquity and return my udr7 why did you choose unifi as your home networking solution I do have some base knowledge of networking so noob friendly answers to try and convince me to fully commit swapping to unifi as their brand comes with a price.

Where / how are you actively looking for jobs?

Hi all just a question where are everyone looking for jobs in today's day and age? feels like everything its just gone so chaotic to the point of not knowing where to start. On the horizon I am considering a company change but feel I'm siloed into the current experience that I have as for instance I see nice interesting job postings pop up around me but require xyz languages frameworks etc which dont match my current experience and just feels like I can't move from where I am currently, with also AI starting to possibly shift from a cost perspective companies might want to start hiring again?

Socket testing

Alright lads everyone’s favourite thing in DIY playing with electricity I have to add a new coax socket into a room and the hole is there already it was just never connected years ago. Slight issue though there’s mains cables behind the screw hole for the new socket so I need to move them ever so slightly. I plan to get a multi meter and one of those socket plug in tools that will say a current is live. Is there anything I should be aware of if the mains cables touch the new screw going in?

Thanks

What poe injector to get to replace router for gen 3 dish?

Hi all as title states I’m a bit of a newbie when it comes to power over Ethernet and I know that’s how my gen 3 dish is power and it happens via the port on my Starlink router. But today I am just bypassing the router and purely using it for poe injection and it’s taking up too much space as I’m just routing an Ethernet cable from it into my homes main router and I think replacing the router with a poe injector would be cleaner as the router is also in bypass mode. Take in mind I live in the eu so volts etc are different iirc if you know a working poe injector i can use.

Also silly question will the Starlink app no longer show my dish if I do the above ?

Setting up MoCA network - Ireland

Hi all as the title says I’m trying to setup a MoCA network in Ireland these are very much common over here and I’ve MoCA adapters on the way but I’ve decided to take a look into the attic and saw my current splitter is not MoCA compliant but before I buy the splitter I need a sanity check to make sure it’s the right one Amphenol 8-way Digital Splitter MoCA 2.5 ABS318H, Silver.

Or should I be looking for something that can amplify and is MoCA compliant this is a grey area for me so it’s much appreciated.

What mesh system allows forcing of particular wireless node uplink?

Hi all,

I am trying to figure out a solution here our home is quiet big and I have a mesh network currently consisting of 4x Archer BE230 (Tp link) while they work great Ive noticed that the internet connection is dropping at one end of the house and its due to one of nodes connecting to the main which is at the other end of the house. I. naively believed that the nodes would connect to the closest rather than doing a direct skip to the end of the house.
This tends to cause the network to drop a lot, this does seem to be a common problem online but is there any mesh solutions that allow forcing a connection between nodes in a mesh style without defaulting to the parent / main node.

Thanks

What is something that is a hidden game changer that isn’t highlighted enough.

As the title says what is something you feel that is a game changer in making espresso / coffee making in general that you feel should be something that everyone should know and not just tribal knowledge to yourself

Eureka Mignon Libra AP - worth it or is there an alternative for GBW [600€]

Looking at getting the Eureka Libra / AP version currently still have only the grinder inside of my sage barista pro and I've gotten into the good habit of always weighing beans post grind to ensure I have the right amount grinded. I know that grind by weight (GBW) is a luxury but it would be a nice to have as other's who make coffee in my house fray away when they see me measuring how much I have grinded. If others have any other options I'm all ears! thanks
