I’m so terrified of surgery I don’t know if I can do it

I’ll be having an ACDF of C5-C7 in October. How do you guys do it? I keep thinking what if I wake up and I’m paralyzed. I have the absolute worst anxiety that my doctor won’t treat me for. I REALLY don’t want to be paralyzed. The thought of my neck being cut open makes me sick. I just can’t wrap my head around it. I know I need it but I’m so scared.

Has anyone ever had surgery with neurosurgeon Namath Hussain from Loma Linda?

I’ll be getting an ACDF with him and was looking to see if anyone else has had him for surgery.

2 level ACDF coming up, I’m so scared

I met with my neurosurgeon today and I’m set for October 5th 2 level ACDF of C5-C7. He said I have a higher chance of being paralyzed from the surgery since my neck is so bad, but he’s confident. I’ll have to stay the night in the hospital for the night to be monitored. I have to stop smoking tobacco or he won’t do it, so I’m quitting today.

How was your ACDF? I’m terrified. It needs to be done though so I’m trying to stay positive!

Email stating payment was sent. EDD says they need my signature?

I got an email last night saying my payment was sent. Then I tried to call to get through because I haven’t gotten it and it says my signature is needed for my payment to be sent? Everything was done electronically. Has anyone else experienced this?

Did anyone with cord compression for a long time ever get feeling back?

It looks like I may never feel my legs and feet again. They have been numb/burning/tingling for a year now and I was just diagnosed with severe central canal stenosis and cord compression from a herniated disc at C5-C6. I wish this would’ve been found sooner. I should know my surgery date next month. Pretty depressing since I’m so young.

Flashes of light only when moving eyes

July 24th I got a terrible headache but it only hurt when I moved my eyes, not my head. I was seeing quick flashes but not all the time. I went to my neurologist today and he said it sounds like ocular migraines. I asked even if the flashes are still happening? and he said yes. I do have a headache today. MRI of brain is clear and no eye injuries. Has anyone experienced the same?

Has anyone had eye problems?

Hi all. I have severe central canal stenosis at C5-C6 with a disc compressing my spinal cord and swelling in my spinal cord. I’m going for a lumbar MRI tonight. I haven’t been able to feel my legs for a year and the numbness/tingling/burning is just starting in my left arm.

The 25th I woke up with a terrible headache with aura. The headache is gone but now I’m still seeing flashes of light when I move my eyes. When I go outside in the sun I see tons of tiny black dots. If I’m laying down inside I don’t see any of either. Since my diagnosis I’m worried everything is spine related.

I have terrible anxiety so I was just wondering if anyone else has had eye changes from a spine problem or I’m I’m freaking myself out. 😅

Eye symptoms?

Has anyone with spine issues had eye issues? I had a headache and started getting aura. It’s only coming on when I move my eyes. I have no idea if its related.

Was anyone else’s MRI this vague?

I went to the ER last night due to cauda equina symptoms. They did an MRI and this is what it says. My MRI I had at another imaging center was much more thorough than this so I’m wondering if this is normal. The doctor said I do not have cauda equina.

Has anyone waited for surgery after symptoms?

I think I’m freaking myself out here a bit. I saw a neurosurgeon and he wants a lumbar MRI and a spine CT. I’m in a soft collar and he said I’ll be fine as long as I don’t fall or get into a car accident. This is what my cervical MRI says. Severe central canal stenosis at C5-C6 relating to disc extrusion indenting/compressing ventral spinal cord. No high grade neural foraminal stenosis noted.

I keep reading stuff online and I know it’s not making it better. I had absolutely no neck pain until I saw my MRI and was put in a soft collar keeping my neck totally straight. I have a lumbar MRI on the 28th and the CT is August 5th. I haven’t been able to feel my legs for a year but I’m just starting to get a tingling feeling in my left arm. Never any other arm or hand symptoms.

I’m hoping to get even sooner appointments if people cancel so I’m going to work on that this week. I’m just terrified I’m going to be paralyzed overnight or something. I haven’t been doing anything other than laying down for weeks. It takes so long to get into appointments here. I’m trying to avoid going to the ER and getting just whoever’s on call that day.

I’m very anxious. I guess I’m wondering if this is progressive or more overnight. I can still walk and use my hands. I would have thought the neurosurgeon would have been like wow this is a huge emergency but he doesn’t seem to think so and he has great reviews at the best hospital in my state.

My MRI for anyone interested

C5-C6 severe central canal stenosis. Waiting on spine CT then surgery but I won’t know exactly what surgery until imaging is done.

Seeing neurosurgeon tomorrow. Question?

I’ve talked to some of you about my recent MRI. severe central canal stenosis at C5 C6, large herniated disc at C5 C6 pushing on my spinal cord and small area of edema in the spinal cord. It seems like everyone is against fusions because of the loss of range of motion in your neck.

I do not want that. I’ll be 31 this month so I don’t want to have loss of range of motion so young. Would it be good to try to avoid fusion? I am planning on bringing it up to the surgeon tomorrow but want to make sure I’m making the right choice. I think I am but I’d like to hear your experience and if your recommend fusion or if you’re against it. Thank you!

I think I messed up can someone give me advice?

I recently applied online for short term disability due to a spinal cord injury. My doctor doesn’t fill the paperwork out online so I have to get the paper forms. When applying I didn’t add my neurologists name or phone number. I figure he would probably be the one to fill them out since I’m under his care. Is there a way I can go back and add his name or does it not matter? No one at the disability office answers the phone so I can’t get through to a person.

Looking for some encouragement

Hi all. I’ve already posted on another sub but I thought I’d post here as well. I’m 30 and just got diagnosed with severe central canal stenosis at c5-c6 and a large herniated disc at c5-c6 thats pressing on my spinal cord with swelling in my spinal cord. My neurologist said he was thinking about sending me to the hospital because this is serious BUT if I protect my neck he thinks I’ll be okay.

I should be able to set to my appointment with the neurosurgeon tomorrow. I was just wondering if anyone had the same and what exactly was done? How was the recovery? I have the absolute worst anxiety and keep thinking if I move the wrong way in my sleep I’ll be totally paralyzed. My neurologist told me to keep my neck straight so I’ve been trying but it’s definitely straining my muscles. My neck never hurt before this which is weird.

My symptoms for the past year have been tingling/burning/numbness in my feet and legs. Definitely worse in my right leg. No symptoms in my arms or hands at all. I’ve been trying to stop being so anxious and stop thinking making subtle movements will paralyze me but unfortunately, that’s not how my brain works lol. I’m absolutely terrified of spine surgery. My only surgery ever was getting my gallbladder removed in April. Thanks for reading if you’ve made it this far and sorry for whining.

Anyone with severe central canal stenosis have numb legs and feet?

I’ve mostly been seeing people whose arms and hands are numb or tingling. I have severe central canal stenosis at c5-c6 and the disc is pushing on my spinal cord. A year ago my legs felt wet when there was no water on them. That progressed into severe tingling/burning/numbness in my legs and feet.

The rest of my spine on my MRI looks okay so I was just cur if anyone has the same. I’ve been getting occasional burning but my legs and feet are mostly numb now and I can’t feel hot or cold at all either. Still waiting to see a surgeon.

I finally know what’s wrong with me.

Some of you may remember my posts here. After a year of struggling I finally found out what’s going on. I got my spine MRI results back and I have severe central canal stenosis at c5-c6, a herniated disc at c5-c6 pressing on my spinal cord and swelling in my spinal cord.

I would have never thought it would be this. Now it explains my completely numb legs and feet. My neurologist called me Thursday and said this is seri and he was wanting to send me to the hospital but if I protect my neck he thinks I’ll be okay until he calls me Monday with a referral to a neurosurgeon.

To say I’m terrified is an understatement!!! I’m only 30, but I guess this is a result of my occupation. I’m so nervous for spine surgery and what comes with it. I’m scared it’s going to rapidly progress and my breathing will be cut off. My throat is already numb so it’s a weird, scary feeling. Has anyone had the same and had success with the surgery?

My MRI results

I’m 30 years old. Severe central canal stenosis and a disc extrusion at c5-c6. For the past year my legs have been going numb and it’s getting worse. Got my results today and my neurologist called and said he’s sorry but this is serious and this is going to move fast. He said he’s going to call me Monday with a referral to a neurosurgeon. I am so so scared.

Please let me know if I’m going to be okay. I’m worried about not being able to walk after the surgery. I don’t even know what they’re going to do yet but I’ve been seeing nothing but bad stuff. This wasn’t the outcome I was hoping for and I am so upset.

Severe stenosis at c5-c6 help

I’m a 30 year old female that’s worked in a warehouse for almost 8 years. The past year I’ve been having progressing tingling/numbness/weakness in my legs. I saw my neurologist and got a brain and spine MRI done and just got my results.

It says severe central canal stenosis at c5-c6. A disc extrusion at c5-c6 and a small area of edema inside the spinal cord. I haven’t spoken to my neurologist yet. Has anyone had the same? I’m trying to calm down but I’m freaking out.

What does this mean??

F 30 I went to the ER a while ago this morning because my leg looks a bit swollen. They did an ultrasound and it says “There is compression of a posterior tibial vein. Impression: There is no evidence of venous thrombosis in the right lower extremity.” So what would be causing the compression of a posterior tibial vein? Could that be from the tech when she was doing the ultrasound? I’m kind of freaking out and don’t know if I should be worried or not.

I don’t have the will to keep going

This last year has been a nightmare. Right upper quadrant pain, nausea, vomiting, unintended weight loss, neuropathy in my legs and feet. These past 2 weeks the numbness I feel in my legs has spread to my mouth, throat, face, most of my torso. I can’t tell when I need to use the bathroom anymore.

I was admitted to the hospital after they talked to my neurologist who wanted a brain MRI done asap. I had another brain MRI and spine done at an imaging center a few days before I was admitted to the hospital. I got very confused and thought I was having a stroke. Brain MRI was fine.

The neurologist I saw while I was admitted said he thinks it’s a nerve issue but they can’t do anything else until I get my results from my spine MRI. I have no idea why they didn’t do one at the hospital. Friday I could barely walk. I’m very dizzy and still kind of confused and having trouble with my right eye. My back BURNS so bad.

I lost my job I was at for years because I can’t stand for long periods. I’m so depressed and feel like such a loser.. How the fuck has it taken so long to figure out what is going on? What am I even going on for? I can’t drive at all now. I guess I’m just looking for some positive experiences maybe. A picture of your pets? I’ve never been so depressed in my life it just sucks and I don’t know what to do.
