GLACIER

Just got home from a glacier show at a punk squat dive bar in Leipzig, tiny venue with a 3x1.5m stage and about 30 person capacity.

I had so much fun, the band was hot and the drinks were cold, they played a long set with encores, oh wow what an awesome experience. The venue did not allow photos or else I’d share some.

If you haven’t seen glacier live yet, do yourself a favour and do so!!!!

Cor-Tek 5P switch logic solved

Dear all,
I couldn’t find any information about this switch online so I’m putting my findings up here in the hope that I can help someone else.
This switch was in my made in Indonesia 2005 ibanez Gio HSH guitar. The switch is best suited to that pickup configuration (correct ibanez diagram attached).
I checked it all with a multimeter and mapped the switch connections.
Ibanez used lugs 1-3 as pickup inputs, these connect to the output lug 4. The other side of the switch is used to control the coil splitting by grounding the series link via lug 7 which is connected to volume.

I used mine in a HH config and jumpered lug 1-3 to have pickups active in all positions.

Future modders with this switch, you’re welcome ☺️

Help with Cor-Tek 5P switch

Hi there,

Currently modding my HSH ibanez to a HH and have run into problems with the wiring. I have a Cor-Tek 5P switch in it (I thought it was a 2502N but it’s not). I wired it all up according to the diagram attached, but my result is, neck to bridge;
5: all 4 coils on
4: all 4 coils on
3: all 4 coils on
2: dead
1: bridge humbucker

The 5th lug with the red and white wire from the bridge humbucker (in the diagram) is certainly wrong and I’ve disconnected it already (it was not connected to anything when the HSH wiring was still set up)

Has anyone got any experience with these switches? What positions can I get out of a HH guitar with this switch?

Thnx in advance 🤘🏻☺️

WIP jacket

Hey y’all what do you think of my WIP jacket? The gojira and parkway drive patches on the back are cut out of old band T-shirts. I love lots of different genres and want to represent that. All the patches/shirts were bought at concerts.
I know I need more, it’s been slowly coming together for about 10 years now

30” vs 34”

I’m shocked right now, for years ive been firmly in the short scale bass camp, but ive had the 34” for less than a week and I’ve fully accepted that it’s superior.

Maybe it’s cos I had a cheap beginners shorty (Cort action jr) and I now have a mid-high range 1990s Ibanez TR 34” bass, but hot damn it made a MASSIVE difference to my mix. I need less plugins to get it to sound good, it has clank for days and it’s got so much punch power it’s like the agents in the matrix.

String winding on gotoh tuners

Should the strings look like this wound up?
Previous owner out them on new before selling. Will winding it like that cause the strings to slip?

Identifying a TR series bass

Hi there! I picked up this MIK TR series bass and I can’t figure out which model it is.
It has a 7 digit numeric serial number, made in Korea, passive PJ pickups (pole pieces covered), it has as far as I can tell the headstock from a MIJ TRB3 (logo style and placement, cylinder style string retainer). The finish is gorgeous, it’s a solid piece of wood.
It doesn’t really match up 100% with any TR basses I can see in the pictures on the ibanez.fandom.wiki page.

Can anyone help me identify it? My guess is that it’s some sort of transitional model with MIJ hardware, made right after production was shifted to Korea. It would be cool to at least know what year it’s from

Thanks in advance!

New bass - TR series Ibanez MIK

Ibanez TR Bass with PJ pickups, made in Korea, presumably in 1995. Got it for 160€. My first 34” bass, and wow i was not ready for the difference in d standard to my 30” bass. So much clearer and defined on the lows!
I am just not sure which knob is tone and which is pickup blend, pretty sure the one near the bridge is tone. What does the pickup blend do? Is the P on all the time and I bring the J up? Or do I need it in the middle to hear both full?

Ibanez TR series bass 1995

I’m going to test out and probably buy this bass tomorrow, for 160€. It’s a made in Korea 1995 Ibanez TR series PJ passive bass. The seller says the neck is straight, the pickups work and the strings are newish.

Has anyone played one before? Am I right in thinking the asking price is very reasonable? Are 90s Ibanez MIK instruments excellent quality? Would this be better than a new Harley Benton MV4PJ for example? What things should I check while test playing it?

Thnx for your help

Edit: this will be my first 34” bass, until now ive only played owned and recorded with 30” basses

Antique table identification (Germany)

Hi there, i need help identifying this antique table. It’s hardwood, possibly oak, the drawer and one drawer rail is missing, the table top is worn but has those little spots on it that really old wood gets. My guess is at least 100 years. I can’t see makers marks anywhere. There are some black lines on the inside of the beams which hold the table top…
It was given to my brother in law in Germany by an old couple who didn’t want to move it out of their apartment. It is very heavy!
Does anyone have any idea what period it is from, where it was built, and what it’s possibly worth?
Thanks in advance

Lyrics that have stick with you for 20 years

I’ve been listening to the re-recording of bring me the horizons Count your blessings and there’s a line in a lot like Vegas that I realised I’ve been using and saying for 20 years now

It’s not a party if it happens every night

Has anyone else adopted a lyric like that without realising it? And said it a lot over the years?

More HM-2 hardcore metal

I’m having cravings for Snarly HM-2 death metal tone metalcore and hardcore like:

Fuming mouth

Has anyone got any more bands like this to help me scratch that itch?

Humbucker pickup rings - can I just remove them?

Hi everyone, swapping my bridge pickup soon and I’m wondering - can I just leave the pickups rings off? Do I need other screws if so? Will the holes from the pickup ring corner screws be heaps obvious?

Old Ibanez gio - fix/mod or replace?

Hi everyone. I’d like some opinions from the community here. I have an Ibanez GRG270b made in Indonesia from about 2002. It was given to me by my sister-in-law who didn’t play it anymore.
It’s the only electric guitar I’ve ever played intensely, and I really like the feel of it. It’s fully decked out with shielding it has a Seymour Duncan jazz pick up in the neck. But the bridge is a bit busted; The trem arm does not fit in the slot anymore and I got really sick of the cheap Floyd Rose anyway so I blocked it with coins. The input Jack is a bit Thingy too. And I’ve realised the stock pickups are pretty bad after getting DI tracks from another guitarist who uses DiMarzios.
So the question is, is it worth replacing the bridge with an aftermarket Gotoh unit and replacing the bridge and middle pickups with mid range ones (Tesla/Gotoh).
Total invest for parts would be about €200 to “fix” it, plus fees for somebody to look at the jack and install the trem system and replace the pick up (probs at least another 200€?)
Or should I just replace the instrument with a second hand Ibanez RG hard tail with decent pickups?
