Saved 4.5k - 6.5k buying a new car in Edmonton
Just wanted to share my experience buying a new 2026 Toyota Camry XSE.
We originally looked for a used car but the used market in Calgary is cooked. Sellers are asking just $5,000 off MSRP for 2025 Camrys with 40,000+ km on them, a ridiculous price for something likely used as a rideshare or delivery vehicle, not to mention some had multiple accidents on their record.
We decided to buy new instead. After getting frustrated dealing with dealerships in and around Calgary, I looked elsewhere in Alberta. Prices in Edmonton and Wetaskiwin were significantly cheaper than what I could find locally. A few places nearby were only a couple thousand more but they were a pain to deal with and required a 2 to 4 month wait on orders. Others were overcharging and refusing to budge on price or perks.
In the end, I hammered out a deal in a single day via text with a salesman at Gateway Toyota and drove the car home the next day. They had no problem with me paying cash and I still got an excellent deal compared to Calgary pricing.
I know driving out of town isn't viable for everyone but if you have the flexibility, it’s definitely worth looking elsewhere!
AdP special on CBC2
Was driving home listening to CBC2 when AdP came on. Thought it was pretty cool but to my surprise, it was a full program dedicated to their music and story.

tsn.caCalgary Chamber: Calgary businesses call for renewed focus on core services, infrastructure
In 2026, business respondents identified the following as their top priorities: core services (52%), public transit infrastructure (46%), community safety and wellbeing (40%), downtown revitalization (35%) and housing (32%).
Recommendations:
Advance an underground alignment for the Green Line with long-term plans to extend the route North to 160th Avenue N.
Develop a plan to address Calgary’s $49 billion infrastructure funding gap without overburdening residents and businesses through property tax increases.
Create a police reporting app for online non-emergency reporting and real-time status updates.
Invest in wraparound supports for vulnerable Calgarians, including non-market housing, day shelters, mental health, addictions and employment services.
Rebalance property taxes through annual shifts to achieve a 60–40 residential/non-residential tax split.
Develop a Nighttime Economy Strategy to grow Calgary’s culture, tourism and hospitality sectors.
Increase funding for sport, recreation and cultural programs to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population.
