My mom said “It would be irresponsible to let you transition after only thinking about being trans for 3 months”. Is it actually irresponsible?

When I came out to my mom as trans, she said two things that specifically apply to this question.

1: “No doctor is gonna put you on estrogen after only considering being trans for 3 months”

2: the quote in the title.

Im MTF, and I feel like I have done enough thinking, research, and experimentation to understand that I am trans. I’ve already had my egg cracked and opened. I have looked at almost every possible negative of being trans and none of it has scared me away. I enjoy being a girl and I know that.

But does she have a point? Do I really have to have thought about this for some arbitrary amount of time before I can even socially transition, let alone get on HRT?

My Mom is telling me that being trans is just a lens, and that I should stop seeing through that lens. How do I prove her wrong?

So when I came out to my mom, she said that I just have a “lens” on that makes me think of my life in a trans way. like having one of those color lenses on a camera that gives everything a colored tint. She said I should stop thinking through that lens and should try and approach my gender identity differently. But I know I am trans, I have thought it over and experimented and learned information. I want to prove her argument that being trans is just a lens wrong, but I don’t know what to say that would actually disprove her point without making me sound like a moron. Any ideas?

Healthcare workers; How hard is it to get a job in the medical field as a trans person?

So recently I came out to my mom, and she said “how are you gonna get a job at a hospital when they’re catholic/religious institutions?”. And as much as I hate to say it, she might have a point. I’ve heard of the occasional story of a trans nurse, but not many. So how hard or likely is it to get a job in the field as a trans person?

I’m gonna go to school for respiratory care, since I want to be a respiratory therapist. They make good money, have like a week off, and I dont have to change old people diapers for 20 years. And I am based in Washington state, so it is pretty liberal over here thankfully. But still, places like Providence might not want to hire me. But then again I think they can’t turn me away for discriminatory reasons, but they can always find other ways I bet. So if that info helps at all to gauging how likely I am to be allowed in, it’d help a lot.

Also, if not, do you have to just wait till you’re passing and have your documents all changed? And just try and act like you’re cis and hope no one finds you out, or what? I’m really not sure what to do here, so anything helps. Thank you in advance!

Came out to my Mom. She said I need to go to therapy and that me transitioning right now would be irresponsible. Idk what to feel.

So yesterday I came out to my Mom. I told her I was trans. And she immediately said “ok, you’re going to counseling” like I had just said something insane or ridiculous. We then had this big fight where she said that I’m not a girl, that my biology doesn’t match that of a girl, that true trans people only realized it when they were little and have always known. And when I explained to her that I’ve always never felt right with super boyish stuff and felt jealous of girls, and that it’s normal for people to realize it later in their teenage years, she pulled out the classic “think how this affects me” argument.

It really hurt, and she did apologize after so idk if I’m still entirely angry at how she acted. She’s super liberal and LGBTQ friendly, so I think due to exhaustion from work and the shock of it made her just say stuff she didn’t mean. And again, she apologized like 5 times afterwards and visibly felt bad. I’m mainly mentioning the above because I just need to get it off my chest.
Anyway, she still stood by that I should go to therapy before I “make such a big decision“ as transitioning, even socially. She said this mainly because this summer I’ve been having more emotional and mental issues due to my new meds. I’ve been getting medicated for ADHD and Anxiety for the first time in ages, and trying to find a right dose is rough. So she thinks that I’m only trans or thinking I am because of said meds effect on my mental state. So she wants me to do therapy for a year before I start doing any transitioning. And that I should go in without a filter of any gender, boy or girl.

Now after some thinking, I’ve realized that the therapy itself isn’t so bad. I know I’ll rediscover I want to be a girl anyway, no matter if I go in without a filter or not. And I’ve always wanted therapy anyway. But I still feel like, grey and empty inside. I feel like I’m in mental or emotional shock over this whole thing. Idk if it’s because I expected her to be more accepting or what. I just don’t want to do anything, or think anything, or remember anything.

idk what’s going on with me anymore or what. If I should still try and be trans anymore or if I should just forget about it and just be This boy forever. Or if I’m depressed again or not or if I’m in shock or what. Any advice or anything would be nice. I just don’t know what to do or what to think or what.

So how undead are the zombies in the movie?

So I’m rewatching the movie for the first time since reading the book. And I just noticed that the zombies in the film are weirder than i remember.

So in the book, the zombies were the slow, 100% risen dead type. But in the movie, considering they just die after a few shots I always figured they were just infected like in 28 days later. But considering the zombie colonel in the South Korea scene is still alive, and just a minute later the rangers say that the doctor was sent to respond to an AWOL soldier who had been zombified and then shot, only to come back again.

So how undead are these things? are they like risen dead like the book or are they infected with just like such strong adrenaline that they just keep over riding any pain until they die?

What do Xenomorphs eat?

They seem to expend a ton of energy. Running, crawling in vents, hunting, etc must take a lot of energy to keep up damn near constantly. Now I know they’re supposedly the “perfect lifeform“ but energy doesn’t come from nowhere. So what do these things eat??

Me personally, the answer that makes the most sense is that they eat whatever they kill. People, Yautia, etc. They already relentlessly hunt them down due to being bioweapons, so why not just eat them too? But I’m reluctant to say that’s true since we havent really seen Xeno’s eat anyone. And we do see bodies just left around anyway, not eaten or anything. Take the building massacre in Alien Earth for example. That thing just sliced people up and kept going.

So what do you guys think? Alien lore tends to be all over the place so again, don’t really feel confident enough to come to a good conclusion myself.

So I know the Jamestown incident was a major disaster and just went awfully. But I just started season 4 and so far they haven’t said what happened to them after the incident.

Were they disbanded? are they still just guarding the moon? are they even seen again? if they are but it’s a major spoiler, just say yes or no please since I’m not done with the show yet.

Any books about people taken from Feral Worlds, and then being put into the sci fi warfare of the 40k universe?

Basically title. I’ve heard in videos before that there are plenty of people from feral worlds who grow up using iron or even stone weapons and tools and then being put in the guard, and made to fight tyrannids with things like lasguns. So considering that fun fact, are there any books where this is actually a central plot point?

Like it sounds perfect, a guy who lived essentially in the Stone Age is plucked out and made to fight on the lines with the guard, learning a new language, using insanely advanced technology, etc, all the while fighting aliens. Could use a mix of what he learned down in the Stone Age but also using the cool tech.

So are there any books like this? And are they any good? Any help would be much appreciated

My imposter syndrome is going wild after I realized I’m trans. Any advice to help?

So for some context, over the past week I’ve been very on the fence about whether or not I’m a trans woman. I’ve been a man all my life, but after starting to pick up the clues (the fact I am jealous of women’s features and wish I had them, the fact that I feel much more comfortable around women than men, the fact that I love girly things a lot more, the fact im reconsidering my gender at all, the fact I want to wear women’s clothes but not as a boy, the fact I’ve never been opposed to the idea of being a woman, etc etc etc) made me realize something is probably up. Eventually, I had what was probably my egg-cracking moment where I truly understood what I wanted as a woman and what I felt being a woman and imagining my life as a woman, and how euphoric and truly happy I felt. That was a good few days ago. I haven’t come out to my family yet, and don’t plan to for at least a month so I can have time to truly understand my feelings so I can properly explain to them what I’m feeling and why I’m transitioning.

My issue though, and the point of this post, is that I’m having a very hard time getting my mind to realize I’m trans. I don’t know if it’s how quickly it happened, or how different it is to be a woman when I’ve been a man my whole life, or what. But my brain, or I guess my imposter syndrome more aptly, keeps telling me im a fraud.

I keep thinking im a fake, or that im confused, or that it’s safer to be a boy. That being trans is terrifying, especially now. That i dont even look or sound like a girl, that I’m just making up characters in my head when I try to talk how I want to talk and use my preferred name.

I know that I’m just lying to myself though. I know they’re just anxieties and worries. Since the exact same thing happened to me when I was understanding that I was gay. And i can say confidently that I am, in fact, into men lol. (I guess I was right tho, I am straight now, due to being a girl). The main thing though is that due to me not looking anything like a girl right now, nor having that good of voice training experience, and having to behave like my old self (aka a boy) around my family all day, makes the thoughts only worse.

So since I imagine plenty of you have probably experienced something like this before, I was hoping you guys could tell me some advice or some things to help me out. Not be therapists per se, but give some tips and tricks youve learned over your journeys. I feel like doing more things to affirm my gender might help, but since I can’t get a feminine body nor voice nor hair over night, and I have only dude clothes, I don’t really know what to do.

How do I know what clothes go together well as a trans woman?

So recently I had what I think was my “egg cracking“ moment, where I went from being on the fence about being trans to fully realizing how much I prefer being a girl. But considering I’ve lived as a man most of my life, I don’t have the clearest idea as to what clothes go well together for girls. I have some vague idea, like colors should go well together, and certain skirts only look good with certain tops, etc. But besides that? I’m frankly in the dark here. Any help would be appreciated, especially from other trans girls who have much more experience than me. Thank you in advance to all those who reply!

How to practice being Trans without dressing up?

So I‘m starting to really think I’m an egg, and might be Transfem (I’ve heard lots of trans people use that term so I hope it’s ok to use. let me know if it’s not though) My main issue though is that I’m not quite where I want my body to be, and I don’t have a way to get womens clothes in secret or any that would fit me well without me wanting to vomit. I also have no makeup and no idea how to use it. And my hair isn’t quite grown out yet.

So do you guys know any ways to practice being trans without those things? I know it’s helpful to dress up because it helps you test things out, and I’d love to do that, but just later when I’m in better shape (as in look like a girl) and can actually get the clothes and wig I want. So what can I do to get that similar feeling of testing it out without dressing up? Any Help would be appreciated

What comes out when a Trans woman orgasms?

This is probably a very stupid question but dear god is it ripping my brain apart.

So I’ve been kinda sorta maybe questioning (I posted here the other day if that says anything) so I’ve been researching bottom surgeries and like how good of an idea it is to get one (not quite on the procedure itself since I don’t want to see grizzly medical pictures after a full meal). But in my research one question kept bugging me. If cis women orgasm by releasing that like nameless clear fluid (I can’t find a name for it), Trans women are still able to orgasm after bottom surgery, and they have the testicles removed, then those 3 pieces combine to me asking: What the hell comes out when a trans woman orgasms????

So the testicles are gone, right? so it isn’t male semen, there’s none being made and no storage. But (and this is my lack of knowledge of female anatomy) cis women orgasm by releasing a clear fluid. So you have to make that somehow or use a substance that’s similar enough. Especially if you want to be able to orgasm like a cis woman. But the only other thing I can think of is Pre-cum, but even that doesn’t work since it doesn’t quite match in consistency, and I DOUBT you can produce that much. But then again I could be wrong, I am no surgeon.

Like I feel like the answer is right in front of me, but I just can’t figure it out or trust my own judgment.

Any response and help understanding would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ahead of time for any answers you provide. I imagine this isn’t the easiest question to answer so I really appreciate the help.

I don’t know if what I’m feeling is actually being trans or something else. How do I know what I’m feeling? Find my way through the fog?

To explain what I mean, I should set this up first. I recently came out as Gay to my parents and friends, about a year ago. I’m much more of a femmy gay than a masculine one. I’ve been really getting interested in becoming a femboy, I love wearing makeup, and I wouldn’t be opposed to wearing girls clothes and having long hair. And a lot more recently I’ve found myself wishing I had a female body. But my main apprehension in saying I’m trans (despite what seems like pretty obvious evidence) is that I don’t internally feel like I’m in the wrong body. While I don’t like my body, being a guy isn’t the issue. I don’t mind being a man.

I have a few main worries that my “transness” isn’t entirely genuine. I do tend to overthink and over worry, but I’ll lose my mind if i don’t get this off my chest.

1: I’m worried it’s because i feel like the sex would be easier. If I had a vagina, sex would be much easier. I wouldn’t have to prep myself or wait and prepare, I could get right to it. So I’m worried my desire to have a female body is because of ease and not gender identity reasons.

2: I’m worried it’s because I feel bad about being a girly man. I wouldn’t have to worry about being girly in public if I was a woman, there’d be no shame and no embarrassment for doing what I like. So im worried it’s because of the ease of that instead of genuine identity reasons.

3: I have no gender dysphoria. I don’t feel like I was born in the wrong body, I have no issues regarding my genitals or the fact I am a man. I just think being a woman would be nice. To have been born a biological woman would be not such a bad thing. Sure, I’d have to deal with creeps, A LOT, but I’ll have to anyway if I go the femboy route. But my main concerns are that I’m not really trans, that I’m just wanting to be a woman for the sake of ease. But then again, I feel like I’m way too up for the idea of being a girl than to say I’m just confused.

If you folks have anything you can say to help me figure this out, it’d be greatly appreciated. My best friend, who is trans, makes it sound like I’m not off my rocker and that discovering my identity could take a long time. But also I begin to feel scared whenever I think about changing something like my gender. Whether fear of rejection, fear of attacks, or just fear of changing something I thought I knew my whole life. So please, help me understand what’s going on

Edit: Another thing I noticed is that I don’t entirely feel like a woman. But I’m not sure if that’s being me scaring myself away from it or just not understanding how girls are supposed to think or what. I’m so fucking confused

Is Deacon just Neil Perry from Dexter?

This is a spoiler less for Days Gone and more for Dexter. so if you want to watch the show, just don’t look at this.

For those who stayed, my theory here is very flimsy and more of a joke tbh. But I’m still gonna stand on it like it’s the last grain of sand in the ocean.

This mainly revolves around the shared actor between the two. The amazing Sam Witwer. He is the face model, voice, and body double (I think) for Deacon St John in game, and the actor of Neil Perry in Dexter. Now since this part of the post is still visible from the top where my warning is, I won’t quite yet mention who Neil Perry is, but he is played by Sam Witwer.

Ok now I can say the spoilers. Neil Perry is the impersonator of the Ice Truck Killer in season 1 of Dexter. Now Neil Perry is not a serial killer (from what I know, I’m not quite finished with the season myself yet) but he is not against killing at all. He kills his mother due to her abuse, and he tortures hookers for fun. But as for the connections to Deek, there are more than a few.

First, Deek and Neil are of similar age. While the Days Gone wiki says Deek was born in the early 80s, and the Dexter wiki says Neil was born in ‘74, The shared actor was born in between, in 1977. So judging age wise, Deek could be born a bit earlier than the wiki says, and still be old enough to join the 10th Mt and fight in Afghanistan. Now Neil Perry was arrested in 07-08 and was sent to jail, but how does he get into the army on a criminal record? Well, he gets out of jail and simply changes his name. He learns murdering moms and hookers dont get him anywhere but jail. So he satisfies his dark passenger by joining the army. He takes advantage of the war in the Middle East to kill as much as he can. Then when he’s out and can’t kill anymore, he joins the next best thing to get his kill in. A Biker Gang. Then he falls in love, gets married, everything we see in the flashbacks in game. The love he feels for his new wife keeps him from needing to satisfy his bloodlust, that and his work with Boozer. But then the freakers appear and he loses everything. Now, he has nothing to stop his bloodlust except to kill. Thankfully, there’s plenty of things to kill. And now there’s no police to have to hide from and be weary of. Only people who let out their dark desires as much as him. And in the apocalypse, who has the ability to fact check birth records in the area? Who is going to try and find out if Deacon was actually from Oregon while trying to survive a literal apocalypse?

That’s about all the connections. Besides that, these two are completely different. Neil Perry is just as likely to be Starkiller or Darth Maul as he is to be Deacon St John. Still, thought it‘d be a funny thing to think about. Deacon being not At all who we thought, almost being a Dexter figure himself? Kinda cool to theorize, even if for fun. If you guys can think of other connections or something, please say so. It’d be amazing to be able to start some sort of conversation here, especially on a game I love so much.

Book recommendations on Stone Age humans/hominids?

I‘ve looked through other previous posts but haven’t found too many good recommendations for what I’m looking for specifically. I’m mainly looking for books about humans and other ”homo-“ species during the Stone Age, from like the earliest known humans after homo-erectus to the end of the Stone Age, like what we know about their societies and dna and all that. Preferably books that aren’t outdated and are good for someone who is just trying to get into the subject.

Thank you so much for any help you give 😁

Watching Episode 1. Either Dexter is full of shit or I am falling for his lies as perfectly as he’d want people to

So Dexter constantly says he’s empty inside. Says he feels nothing. That he is completely devoid of emotion. But I’m starting to think this guy is at least partially full of shit.

Now I’m no expert on the show, but I do know the basic premise. And also he doesn’t shut up about it. He feels nothing and is emotionally empty. But I’m starting to think he’s full of shit. That or he has more emotion than he lets on.

Theres this scene in this episode where he hands a donut to library/file lady. And as he gets a file from her, he says doing whatever he does with the file is “fun”. And she says “Well you have a very interesting idea of fun”. And he, very self awarely and snarkly says “Yeah, I bet you’re right”. That isn’t fake jokes or whatever. We see that him being a fake-person is something very noticeable by people. But that little joke was not that. That was a genuine joke, something he did because it was funny. There’s no reason to do it to this lady, because he’s obviously referencing how he likes to kill serial killers. But she doesn’t know that. This joke is funny to LITERALLY only the audience and himself. That isn’t faking an interaction, that’s him genuinely making a joke for his own enjoyment.

Now I could be very, VERY wrong. Maybe that was a thing for the audience and I’m reading way too deep into it. But that and generally how he behaves this episode is not concurrent with a guy who feels nothing. It more matches with a guy who thinks he feels nothing and is just an edge lord. His interactions with some people are very fake. But with people like his sister in the motel? Yeah, that is 100% genuine.

So either I am falling for exactly what Dexter wants people to believe, or Dexter is just an edge lord who’s too “cool” to admit he does feel things, he just doesn’t like his colleagues and has a fucked up sense of justice.

Ways to practice ecology/conservation without going into it as a career?

I‘ve been getting more interested in Animals, conservation, and the science behind ecosystems. But considering the job I want to pursue seems really good for me (and probably because I’m just too scared to change the plan after struggling so much to even get this one figured out), I was wondering if there’s some good ways to participate without making it my full career path. Not to say not dedicating my time or energy, but just not have to change the career path of my life.

I would be able to have a good amount of time off and make a good bit of Money too, so if the things you guys suggest need time or money, it wouldn’t be too hard I think.

Things like volunteering? Or able to participate in science studies or whatever without working there? Do scientists like Ecologists even bring along non-ecologists? I really want to help, but I just don’t know how without switching my whole career
