First Visit!

A perfect first visit! Great hiking in great weather (can't get better than picking wild blueberries mid-hike!), some amazing animal sightings, and great food (a different lobster shack every day). While the scale doesn't compare to the west coast NP's like Yellowstone and perhaps is less awe-inspiring, this park can't be beat for ease of access, proximity of mountains, forests, and oceans, and the food options are way better!

Back ventilation mod

I use my CPL24 for hiking (I know, I know, these bags are too heavy for serious hiking, bla bla bla). My biggest gripe was always how hot my back gets, as the back panel is not very well ventilated. I went to Acadia National Park this past weekend and decided to try this cheap ventilation sheet from Luna Project (size small). 10-11mile hike, temperature high in the 80's, about 7hrs outdoors total. Did my back still get sweaty? Yes absolutely, there's no way around that. BUT that little bit of separation felt nice. I got a little more wind going through, but more importantly, I didn't feel as sticky-icky. My whole back didn't feel like it was pressed up against a wall. It's quite thin, very lightweight, slides nicely into the sleeve in the main compartment when I'm not using it. It was well worth the cheap price.

Amazing day trip

My wife and I had an incredible day trip in the park as we made our way to Yellowstone. I wish we had more time but sadly our flight to Jackson was canceled and we lost a day at the start of our vacation. Regardless we did an amazing hike from Jenny Lake to Hidden Falls, then to the Cascade Canyon Trail!

Great trip! June 13-16

My wife and I recently did 3 days in Yellowstone park and had an incredible time. Beautiful landscapes and even more beautiful wildlife! We stayed 2 nights at Lake Yellowstone Hotel and then 1 night in Gardiner to be closer to Lamar Valley for a sunrise visit. Hiked the tough but beautiful Seven Mile Hole Trail down the canyon. We started from Jackson (although flew into SLC due to flight logistics nightmares) and did a day in Grand Teton National Park before heading to Yellowstone. Finished our trip with a day in Bozeman before flying home! 6 days total. Perfect amount of time!

1 week hike in Yellowstone

Went on a 1 week hiking trip to Yellowstone with the wife. My tried and true TD35 as my carry-on, and using a mirror CPL24 for the first time! I really enjoyed carrying the CPL24, really lives up to the hype. Even on the 2 8-11 mile hikes we took, the CPL24 worked really admirably, once I figured out the best way to carry for me (which was very very high and tight and high sternum strap). I was surprised it felt light and comfortable. Had snacks for 2, 16oz water bottle, 3 liter water bladder, some binoculars, small camera optics, and light outerwear. Shoulder strap passthrough for the water bladder tube worked great. My only cons are no hip belt and a back panel that is not very ventilated. Will I use the CPL on longer 15+mile hikes? Perhaps not, but for 11miles and almost 6hrs, I had no issues with it! Very happy with this purchase!

Evergoods in B737-700

TD35 crammed under middle seat due to bins being full. FA doesn’t seem to have a problem with it. CPL24 fits easily under aisle seat.

Replacing my Nuphy air75 V2

I’ve had a Nuphy air75 V2 for almost 2 years. A V1 for three years before that. They were my introduction into mechanical keyboards and I’ve had a love-hate relationship with them the whole time. While I love them aesthetically and love typing on them,  I’ve had such terrible connectivity issues with them. The V2 has issues from the start, which were somewhat resolved with a firmware upgrade. But it deteriorated slowly over time and in the last few months, it’s become basically unusable. Missed keystrokes, extra lagging, randomly added spaces (Dongle is worse than Bluetooth).
I’ve bought and have been testing 3 new keyboards for the past few days:Iquinix Magi75, Keychron K3 Max SE, and the Logitech G515 TKL Lightspeed.
TL;DR: I’m definitely returning the Logitech, the Keychron maybe beats the Iquinix by a tiny margin, but it’s honestly a toss-up. The typing experience on both keyboards is super pleasant! But I think Keychron wins because it’s lighter and $50 cheaper, and the Iquinix has a chemical smell issue.

**Logitech G515 TKL Lightspeed with linear switches**

I got this keyboard for the Lightspeed feature which is supposedly bulletproof connectivity to my computer. I had such terrible times with the Nuphy connection either on bluetooth or 2.4Ghz, that I thought this would be a great feature for me.  But after testing it next to the other 2 keyboards I haven’t seen any differences in connectivity or lag. Seems like it’s not that helpful.  Other than that, it’s a decent keyboard. The keycaps are more textured and don’t feel as nice to me. Actuation force is right in the middle and feels nice from the get-go.  Sound is the most clacky, but not crazy. It’s just a bit lighter than the Iquinix. But mainly, it turns out I don’t love a TKL layout, I much prefer a 75% layout.  Now that I know that Lightspeed isn’t really all that different, I probably would have been better off just getting the MX Mech Mini.  The built-in place to store the dongle is a nice touch.

**Iquinix Magi75**

Overall it’s a really well built keyboard. The key caps are smooth to the touch and feel really nice to touch.  The actuation force is the lightest of the 3 and I can definitely feel it.  Perhaps a little too light? The sound is the most thocky and muted but slightly higher pitched than the Keychron; creamy is I guess what this is called these days. Space bar has just the slightest metallic clack.  The weight of this keyboard is crazy. I know the specs are online, but you don’t really understand what that means until you have it in your hands and compare it to the others.  If I wasn’t moving my keyboard from location to location, this might be a nice feature, but for me, it’s a bit too much.  No connectivity issues using bluetooth or the 2.4Ghz dongle.
My biggest issue is the cheap foam they used for the fancy case: it smells absolutely terrible, like chemical death.  I cannot be in the same room as that case and I have to keep it wrapped in plastic.  The keyboard unfortunately still sort of smells the same because of that case.  This might be the main reason I return it.

**Keychron K3 Max SE with red switches**

Overall, very impressed with this keyboard, I’m liking it much more than I thought I would! Lightest keyboard of the bunch, but doesn’t feel cheap. Keycaps are really smooth and feel really nice.  The wood accent side panels feel and look great. Heaviest actuation force. At first it felt too heavy and uncomfortable to type on. But after some time, it feels fine now, just needed my fingers to get used to it. Interestingly the same force on paper as the Nuphy Cowberry switches but feels slightly heavier.  Sound is right in the middle of the 3. Not as muted/creamy as the Iquinix, but not as clacky as the Logitech. A great middle ground, and on the lower end of the frequency spectrum, which I think makes it more subtle.  I like the physical buttons on the side.  Connectivity was a bit of an issue at first. Could only connect with bluetooth and not the 2.4 Ghz dongle.  I needed to update the firmware first and then after it worked fine. Now there’s no issues, strong and reliable so far.

Custom wallet design commission for fellow redditor!

u/mfchillin reached out to me to collaborate on a custom wallet design and improve on an existing wallet he was carrying. I'm super proud on how we worked together on every detail: the layout of all of the pockets and card slots to match his exact carry needs, the selections of leathers (beautiful satin smooth Mahogany Buttero exterior, soft pebbled Emerald Minerva interior), the color of the stitching thread, the size and finish of the metal snap. Couldn't be happier with how this came out and I hope this serves him well for years to come!

Reversible lid pill box

This pillbox helps keep track of your daily doses! After you take your pills, you simply flip the lid over to show the colored side.  You can easily and quickly see from a distance when you've taken your pills for the day without having to open the box.  The lids are spring loaded so they mechanically stay locked in place so no pills come spilling out when you turn the box over.  2 types of lid options:  14 day lids if you take pills once a day, and 7 day and 7 night lids if you need to organize pills for the morning and before bed.  There are small registration bumps and recesses so that you can stack multiple boxes on top of each other.  There's also a smaller, sleeker 7 day organizer that can be used for traveling!
