What do you think of the characters in my game?

Hey everyone!

I'm making a game where every character comes from a different world, but they're all brought to the same planet where the overall vibe is Western.

When designing each character, I try to blend Western aesthetics with elements from their original worlds.

I want to hear your first impressions:

> What do you think about these designs?

> Who do you think these characters were in their original worlds?

> What do you imagine their worlds looked like?

Weird west adventure game with queer cowboys!

Hi r/LGBTGamers! I wanted to share with you a game that my girlfriend and I are working on.

It's called Talewarden and it's an adventure visual novel about a journey through an alien planet with seven companions, and finding your place in the world.

You wake up on an alien planet stuck in an endless sunset. People from different worlds have been brought there by an unknown force.

You bond with your companions, discover their troubles, and help them with their personal quests, which determine their fate. Each of them is LGBTQ+, and our romanceable characters include a transmasc sheriff, a demisexual sailor, and a nonbinary alien.

If you're interested in our narrative adventure game, please consider wishlisting on Steam! We also have a demo available.

Weird west adventure game on an alien planet with broken time

Hi! I wanted to share with you a game that my girlfriend and I are working on! 🤠

It's called Talewarden, it's an adventure visual novel in which you embark on a journey through an alien planet with seven companions, trying to find your place in the world.

You wake up on the planet Notoria, stuck in an endless sunset. You and everyone you meet were brought there by an unknown force from different worlds. Throughout your travels, you explore locations also snatched from different worlds, trying to uncover the mystery of why you are all here and why time has stopped. In the end, you must decide whether to fix Notoria or return everyone to their own world.

You will bond with a diverse cast of characters and have conversations about creation, loneliness, and belonging. You will have the chance to help them with their personal quests, which will determine if they survive to the end.

If you're interested in our narrative adventure game, please consider wishlisting on Steam! We also have a demo available! 🧡

Do you know any popular AMARE games?

I'm looking for amare games that focus on deep story rather than strictly romance, but still have relationships with characters. Do you know of any?

We updated the capsule for our weird west adventure game.

Since we had almost no organic traffic from Steam, we started thinking about changing our main capsule. Cuz why not? We weren't happy with it anyway. So, we changed it!

With more contrast, we think it's more eye catching now, and the title is more visible. We also wanted to highlight our aesthetic and the vibe of the journey, hence the alien horses. And it's character driven, so we wanted to show the characters' faces more.

But we want to hear your thoughts!

My sprites use layeredimages, and in my game the player’s choices can change how the characters look. And I’m not talking about small stuff, I mean changes of all expressions. Like for example, a choice can change a character’s eye color (green for choice 1, blue for choice 2). This means I’d need to change basically everything in the eyes group.

The problem is I can’t really figure out how to do this cleanly. I tried using if statements but they don't work inside image groups (as far as I can tell). I also tried when statement, but it seems like it only works with attributes and not variables.

So I ended up using ConditionSwitch, but I’m not sure if that’s actually the best way to do it or if I’m overcomplicating things. Do you have any ideas or maybe I don't understand something.
