With the rise of convention popularity over the last 5-10 years there has also been a rise of volunteer registration needed to help run conventions.
And I HATE it, I don’t hate those volunteering but the culture that surrounds it.
These companies exploit people under the guise of volunteering to not pay them.
Now ofc there’s some benefit to it, meeting guests and working with them, networking and getting free entry to the con. But after a while of doing this these companies still refuse to pay people.
This is also why some cons are run so terribly they don’t have an actual staff, and half the time staff isn’t even paid they’re also volunteers just under the guise of “staff” to make them feel like they have a higher position and to also gas light them into thinking they can eventually get a paid positions.
They can’t.
Literally only leads get paid and it’s usually like 5 people out of 30-45 “staff”. It irritates me because I KNOW how much money these cons bring in and it’s absolutely disgusting to me how they take advantage of people.
To a point it is the volunteers fault to keep doing this when they’re not getting paid.
But you can’t run a con without paying people it dosnt end well because they don’t have a reason to lock in, I’ve seen it time and time again.
I’m not saying pay people 500 dollars a day I’m saying pay them a minimum of $150-200 I know damn well these cons can afford it.
You need to start paying people to get qualified people at the very least you need a core 10-12 people getting paid who actually know wtf they’re doing so that they can lead the other volunteers and staff volunteers.
Wanted to know if there’s free street parking near the Anaheim convention center I don’t mind walking if it’s a few blocks away but if anyone could highlight some streets for me that would be great.

This con circuit has one thing going for it and it’s the amount of guests they bring, it’s usually an insane amount and they usually have a solid line up.
But there’s nothing to do besides that. Like that’s it?? I’ve been to the Anaheim ones and it’s happening again. But genuinely it’s 20% vendors and 80% talent and the attendance is always so small for what it should be.
And that’s because this con has no activities. We’re in a state with the economy where people now go to conventions so just hangout and take photos. There’s no arcade, maid cafe of any kind, TCG tournaments, competitions, cosplay events, photo events etc. idk how they’re getting by because cons aren’t just go see celebrities and leave it’s see one or two and hang out.
This con dosnt do that also they staff so ass because it’s all volunteers like last year majority of them don’t know what to do because (from what they told me) they show up like 30 mins before and get minimal training and that’s it like what😭 how are you having unpaid people work with CELEBRITIES ??? Am I crazy?? I get volunteers helping out BUT ASSISTING??? Nah that’s just crazy
Man idk it’s just such a terribly run con and they cancel guests last min and there’s nothing to do after the first hour or two plus the space is one hall of the Anaheim convention center.
I think what bothers me the most is just the potential this con has but they don’t market or have activities so it sucks 😬

I’ve never read such a well crafted story formatted the way it was, like a tv show or disc drives? It was so captivating and incredible to read. I’m in such awe of it I can’t stop thinking about it.
Every character was so well done and it was such an expansive story that brought in the entire league universe.

Within the next 1-2 years I definitely see CGC making the jump and finally coming close to closing the gap with PSA.
CGC made a smart choice creating their pristine 10, it finally allowed for a version of their card to sell at a PSA 10 price.
From what I’ve heard from people at CGC, they’re planning on using a main facilitator to be at every card show on the west coast since they’re based out In Florida and they seem to be cutting down on expenses as well.
I feel like CGC hasn’t been as present but if they start facilitating at every card show it’ll allow even more access to their name and product.
Not to mention their retail price to grade at economy is $20 and every tier after that maxs out at $100…unlike PSA with their million fees and over charges along with their scandals…
Especially on Stoneman Ave near the in in out area, my dads coming to visit and he’s gonna stay a week but we don’t wanna fork out $35 for the parking overnight for the week…yes we need to save that money

I’m curious to know if people grade and collect CGC at these sorts of shows I know that PSA will be there, and I know most collectors prefer PSA than CGC although it is second to PSA.
Do you think they’ll get any traffic there? I might bring some bulk but not sure if I should go with CGC than PSA, bc CGC has a better turn around time and aren’t in as much hot water.
Curious to know what people think CGC will perform there.

Went out for lunch today around 12/1 pm for sushi with a friend.
I live in California so everyone makes $16.90 including servers/restaurant staff.
Service was not good at all in my opinion.
We got seated and waited 15 minutes before a waiter came up to us (ayce sushi) so you just fill out a form they take it that’s it.
Sushi took 25 mins to come out and we didn’t see our waiter for another 30 mins even though we had been ready to order again and I kept looking around what should’ve been a 1-1.5 hour lunch became almost 3 because we could never find our server 😭😭
It wasn’t that busy I’d say maybe 10-15 people in the restaurant with other waiters around.
My water was never filled up. They got our order wrong twice. Everyone was chill but to me the service was not good so I left no tip…
My friend was like you’re not gonna leave a tip and I said no I’m not this wasn’t good service and either way I don’t really like to tip but begrudgingly do it.
She said that I should tip even if the service wasn’t great and I actually laughed in her face. Why would I tip for bad service?? Isn’t the point of tipping, to tip based on service??

My senior year of high school I got rejected from every single school I applied to.
I only got into 3 cal states and UC Santa Cruz and I remember being so so crushed because I thought I was going to make it to every single school I wanted (I was insane idk 😭)
Every single one of my friends got into a top UC or Ivy League school. Luckily none of them shamed me or made fun of me for going to community college but my first semester was rough, I felt like a failure and loser.
But over time I learned to make the most of my time at CC and getting a car made my life 10x better. I actually think going to CC changed the course of my life for the better because it allowed me to pursue things outside the class that directly helped my college apps.
I got into ucla, ucsd, ucsb and sdsu all schools I got rejected from in high school.
And part of me feels like I don’t deserve it and I have imposter syndrome at times but it makes me cry a little knowing I got into UCLA (specifically) no one’s ever believed in me or my ability to get into universities especially in high school and that only got worse after I got rejected every where but now I did it yk? It’s mostly my family and family friends but now I can’t WAITTT to post this shit and tell these bitches I did that 😛😛😛

As someone living in California I think tipping is unnecessary. The idea of tipping comes from the fact most people working in the restaurant industry make less than minimum wage, I live in LA so let’s use that as the example. Most waiters here make between $18-20 and on the lower end $16.50 now? (Lmk if that’s accurate)
My point being is that most of the time they’re getting paid $18 on average which is about $2 above minimum wage. What’s the idea behind tipping you if you’re making minimum wage?
Like I understand it’s to help people out but there’s so many jobs where people don’t get tipped and make minimum wage and don’t cause a problem because of it, retail, food industry, sanitation etc
When you’re serving people their food that’s your job like why do I have to pay extra for you to just do your job I don’t get it😭😭 I’m not trying to be rude I’m genuinely asking yk?
And I’ve worked in food service, movie theaters, conventions, etc I’ve never worked a job where I’ve been tipped and it’s just so jarring how people expect it. Like it’s really not optional because if you don’t tip you get shitty service yk?

Transferring from PCC, wanted to know if comms is difficult at UCLA because I won’t even lie I’m not having a hard time at PCC, first semester was ROUGH since I was getting adjusted, failed a class but got that figured out and here I am now bless up.
I’m hearing all different things and I’m already stressed the FUCK out because of the cost of tuition and housing.
