This maison has been milking its status of yore. Since Thierry took over leadership, we’ve mostly seen comically large and esthetically questionable pieces.

They can’t even stay true to the design language of their own iconic watches (e.g., 1518, 2499, etc.). While they did recently launch the gorgeous 5610, this is nowhere near sufficient to redeem themselves.

In terms of mechanical prowess, the torch has long been handed over to the likes of ALS, VC, GS, and some high-end niche and spin-off brands.

I share this as an owner of two of their watches: references 5065 and 5050.

This is a question for the veterans out there.

It annoys me to no end that cinemas in Dubai still don’t add English subtitles to movies.

Even native speakers don’t always understand or properly capture all conversations. Especially not in a Nolan movie, where background music can often be louder than the actors.

This is the only reason I don’t go to cinemas here.

We can expect a serious ramp up of political campaigns in the week following Labor Day (Sep 7th) towards mid-term elections which will take place on Nov 3rd. What this means is that Trump and his goons will do everything for the markets to soar during those two months (Sep & Oct) to incentivize folks to vote GOP.

I think Trump’s calendar looks something like this: (1) continue to bully everyone with wars and tariffs for another few weeks, (2) deploy “miracle” solutions towards the end of Aug, (3) shower us with a bunch of pump-stock-news starting Sep, (4) double down on announcing initiatives to grow the economy in Sep & Oct, (5) win the mid-terms, and (6) wishing everyone an excellent Christmas break.

If this is true, just sit back and relax while the world goes down the drain in Aug. The so-called master plan will unfold right after. Given how frantic markets generally are, I suspect everyone who doesn’t have short term gambling deadlines (options, leverage, or otherwise) will fare relatively well or at the very least break even on their pre-summer investments.

I was pondering about this whole price suppression frenzy that’s been going on for the past four weeks, and concluded the following: AI is not a trend, it is a completely new way of life. It will change the world the way steam power revolutionized productivity in the late 18th century. It will change the world the way internet changed communication. The change is permanent, and certainly a segue into unimaginable progress beyond our own lifetime. As long as science doesn’t discover a way of enabling AI other than through memory, demand for the latter will continue to be explosive and relentless.

With this in mind, there is absolutely no way possible that companies like Micron, Sandisk, and SK Hynix will stall or lose value in the foreseeable future. Any price action you see on your broker’s app is institutional players prioritizing the memory sector in their portfolio. The best way to do that is by causing fear-mongering amongst retail investors. It doesn’t matter whether you’re here for short term gains or truly believe in the mission of these companies, large funds with deep pockets will try to shatter your convictions and they know damn well how to go about that. The irony is that they use powerful AI-enabled algorithms to cast doubts in your chests.
