Is there really "1989 production and folklore level storytelling" on The Life of a Showgirl album?

I think there definitely is! I've heard people say "Taylor lied," but I disagree.

For the production that's similar to 1989, I would point to Elizabeth Taylor, Opalite, and Honey.

For the storytelling songwriting, I would call out Father Figure, Ruin The Friendship, and the title track.

What do you think? Maybe I just love this album too much to be objective.

What is the worst Luke moment?

For me, it would have to be the entirety of Vineyard Valentine or when he sees Lorelai in the street and tells her "you're the one who proposed."

Although, hiding April and making Rory and Dean uncomfortable during the double date are up there.

What are yours? I'm of the camp that Luke was awful and Lorelai deserved better!

In my mind, OR3 is called LOVE/SICK

Basically the title. Don't get me wrong - I love that she called it "you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love," and I do think that perfectly incapsulates the album. But in my own mind, it came to me one day listening on repeat that LOVE/SICK would work so well.

Anybody have this clip?

Does anybody have the clip or remember the dialogue when Vic reads Lem's note that he wrote to the team when he thought he was going off to prison (that came along with the box of bird books)? I remember that scene as making me cry when I first watched the series, and now I can't recall it exactly.

I thought the note said something about how Lem was going to miss them, and it hit them all harder now that he is dead. Thanks!

Food Mentioned or Consumed in the show?

Hello all! I'm planning a SATC themed party for a friend's birthday. I'm in charge of the food!

In terms of what to serve that's inspired by the show - so far, I have bagels with no cream cheese, Duncan Hines chocolate cake, brownies, NY style pizza, Magnolia style cupcakes, and fried chicken.

Any other ideas that I'm missing?

Thank you guys!

Birthday Party Ideas?

Hello all!

I have a friend turning 28 soon(ish) and she wants a SATC themed birthday party.

Any thoughts on food, decor, colors, drinks, etc.?

I figured here would be the best place to ask! My apologies if a question like this has been asked before, I did search our group and couldn't find a ton of info, but feel free to admonish me!

Which Showgirl song(s) will you staunchly defend and which Showgirl song(s) can you not bring yourself to defend at all?

Basically the title.

One I'll always defend: Wi$h Li$t (I think it is catchy and has such a cute bridge!)

Cannot defend: Wood (seems like a Sabrina rip-off and I think the lyrics are a little too cringey for my taste)

Best Fried Clam Strips?

Hello!

I live in NYS and am on a quest to find the best fried clam strips in NH. I am not a fan of whole belly clams (don't make fun of me!).

Any recommendations are helpful, from anywhere in the state. Thank you!

Jumpin' Jacks

Hello!

I have lived in Schdy for quite some time, but I haven't visited Jumpin' Jacks in probably 7 years. The last time I was there, I felt like the quality of the food and ice cream had gone downhill. (For example, the ice cream had chunks of ice).

Has anyone been recently? How is the food and ice cream? Worth a visit?

Thanks!

What do you think is the "best" example of Taylor's songwriting skill on each album?

I've been working on a research piece regarding 21st century songwriting, and Taylor Swift is obviously a large portion of that. I was wondering what others considered to be the "best" (richest, most descriptive, strongly narrative, etc.) example of her songwriting prowess in each album.

My picks are probably:

Debut - Our Song

Fearless - Love Story

Speak Now - Last Kiss

Red - Treacherous

1989 - Blank Space

Reputation - Getaway Car

Lover - Cruel Summer

folklore - my tears ricochet

evermore - tis the damn season

Midnights - You're On Your Own, Kid

The Tortured Poets Department - But Daddy I Love Him

The Anthology - The Black Dog

The Life Of A Showgirl - Ruin The Friendship

Here's mine:

Least Favorite - Actually Romantic

Grown On Me - Wi$h Li$t (honorable mention to Honey)

Fallen Out Of Favor - The Fate Of Ophelia (honorable mention to Cancelled!)

Maybe the funniest, the best writing, the best fashion, all the characters are completely themselves, etc. The episode you could watch every day for decades and never get tired of it!

I would probably have to decide among The Big Journey, Plus One Is The Loneliest Number, The Post-It Always Sticks Twice, My Motherboard My Self, or The Catch.

If I'm picking just one, I'm going with The Post-It Always Sticks Twice.
