Is it worth creating a part number system for my new job?

Bit long but seeking advice

As of this week/7 days ago I began work as a buyer for a ship repair yard, with the only other buyer there having worked there 10 years and near retirement.

Im new to buying but coming from another much more sophisticated shipyard working a much similar role and Im more than aware of the roles function and how to perform it.

This place has no part numbers whatsoever it uses.

Requisitions are just quickly hand written notes of whatever is needed and how much, this information is relayed to the vendor, then once a purchase is confirmed a single row in an excel sheet is made with a summary of the entire order and its cost, as well. (And other details such as program information)

Nothing is labeled with part numbers in the warehouse and mostly relies on a single guy to come in and tell us when somethings low.

Additionally there are no internal purchase order numbers. Instead, orders are identified by the original req being scanned then being placed in the relevant program folder and changing the file name to reflect program name +sub system + its price.

It feels like I went from the year 2500 to a place that uses sticks and stones for everything.

Nothing is used that I would classify as an ERP system.

At the very minimum Ive started designing a supplier database in excel, but should I be doing more? Would it even be worth it to start building a dumb part numbering system in excel to have available?

I also had in mind to possibly build a more detailed purchasing log in which every line of a purchase is written down in an excel sheet including a part number

On one hand I believe these would add a level of needed organization, on the other hand Im afraid of "slowing down processes" when this is just how its been done for 12 years.

Also unsure if this is above my paygrade.

Additional Context: Due to being part of a larger group of shipyards and contracts being involved as part of that; Single-sourcing is the primary procurement method for most all material.

Additionally its cost plus 20 so "savings" arent exactly incentivised

Insane Shipping Cost, what am I doing wrong?

Using the shipping cost calculator, I am using a 22x13x15 box, roughly 12-13 lbs, from myself in Alabama to a friend in Nevada, and its expected to cost $94 at the cheapest!!! (Goes up to $400 at even earlier dates)

Am I doing something wrong? I am just trying to send my logitech sim-racing wheel + pedals to a friend who can't afford it, but at that cost they may be better off finding a used one nearby.

What is the cheapest alternative??

EDIT: Even changing the address from my UPS store to the nearest UPS store to them is the same cost

EDIT2: Not to sound like an ad, but I did end up going with Pirateship and it went from $94 to $44. Thank y'all!

How to fit Moza R9 V3 to GT-Lite Pro?

Unfortunately support hasnt responded to my email in a week so trying here.
I have the Moza R9 V3 and the GT-Lite Pro.
However, as things are, I can only screw in two bolts to secure the base to the rig (front of the base). Unless I'm missing a better spot somehow I dont know a better way to make this work which results in the back jumping up and down when I pull on the wheel, and the front bolts coming loose from moving around too much.

Currently the bar on the rig blocks where the two back screws would be.

Has anyone had success putting their R9 V3 on this rig? If so, any help would be appreciated or even a picture of what holes you're screwing through to make it work.

Going from iRacing to LMU was harder than I thought it would be

So for context: I am still rather a novice Sim racer, (around 1300 irating), who is getting back into sim racing after a 7 year hiatus, and recently decided to try shifting to LMU as a more "casual experience" while iracing was to be my game where me and my team trained for special events, recently completing the 24 hours of Spa.

In that race I would come out with a 2:25 lap average across 162 laps, (2:18 fastest), with 31 total incident points over about 6-7 hours of racing (graveyard shift)

So, what best place to see how my skills translate than the same track and gt3 Aston Martin car in LMU? Well, after 40 minutes I still had not completed a single clean lap... it genuinely feels like im having to get used to a new way of racing/driving entirely. On top of the FFB differences to get used to and trailbraking differences ive become aware of... on top of TC and ABS levels being different

100% a skill issue on my end but certainly didnt expect this level of difficulty switching to another reputable sim. Hoping I can get used it though

24 Hours Spa Timeslot #1 Starting Weather Conditions

So the starting conditions of timeslot #1 were definitely unexpected....
First time encountering this, whats everyone thinking the start of the race will be like?
Are we thinking theres a genuine chance we will have to begin on wet tires then switch to dry shortly after?
Just curious what others are thinking as I'm unsure how to make the decision whether or not to start on dry or wet if we dont have a chance to drive on the track at race start yet.

Seems quali will be rained on and track should still be somewhat wet starting off.

Can't get past create driver profile????

So this is heavily annoying. I just downloaded the game, and I can not do ANYTHING whatsoever in the slightest degree on the "Create your driver profile page"
I dont know what to say past that. Im just stuck pure and simply, nothing reacts to my clicks or typing on keyboard, nor hooking up a controller.

EDIT: SOLVED
Removing "Japanese" as a typing language in windows settings entirely, fixed this issue.

Anything team-related on the Oval Side of things?

To keep it short: I have 4 races total in Oval but want to get into it more.
I largely do road racing endurance events with my team of 6 friends however others on the team have expressed interest with getting into oval.

So I was just wondering if theres anything oval racing that may can involve a team of 2 or more people. From what I can tell it seems most of the events are too short for that sort of thing, but just trying to figure out ways to get a team involved somehow or in some form or fashion.

Question about playing with friends, easy/hard?

So I'm writing this from a place I can't check myself for the next 9 hours or so and I dont have Raceroom.
I'm coming from iRacing, with previous experience AC.
How easy is it to download the game and play immediately just with your friends?
I'm asking asking because in AC its an absolute pain in the butt, and its simply casual friends with no real sim experience, some who drive on keyboard whom I'd like to race with, so I don't want to make them take any financial commitment such as iRacing.

I just want to get into the game, set-up a quick race just for us, and it be easy to do. Is it easy in Race Room?

Is changing tire pressure at pit stops something that anyone actually does?

I am saying this from the perspective of somebody who is new to iracing, sim racing, and new to approaching car aspects such as tire pressure or setups in general.
I just cant think of a scenario where it would be necessary to manually change the tire pressure at the pitstop. Is this something anyone actually does? Is it situational, or do you find yourself actually regularly doing so?

Doing GT3 racing with an endurance team, so we just never change it from 23 PSI on all tires at all times, every time.

Need help justifying my Moza R9 wheel-choice decision

Hello,
So won't lie, made a drunk purchase last night (still going with it now im sober) that I'd get the Moza R9 V3 and KS set. Which is their formula wheel.

However, now that I've had more time to think, I didn't put much thought into if I should really get the formula-wheel, or the CS V2P round-wheel.
I only really do road-series racing, GT3,GT4, Mazda cup and such although I would like to dip my toes into oval racing with friends soon. I have no plans for rally racing or drifting. I would heavily prefer to only stick to one wheel-type due to the cost of each (~$300).

Should I largely be OK on sticking to the formula wheel for my racing purposes? Or should I make a last minute-cancel and change-out. I'm coming from a Logitech G920-round wheel.

Can anyone help me find this video

Going off memory only. But in summary it was something along the lines of "Lamar (or michael) consumes 50 benadryls" and the scene in question Im trying to find was at Michaels house shortly after his wifes trainer leaves, then Lamar phases through the wall saying "Wassup, can a loc come up in your crib", followed by Michael getting scared shitless.

I just remember it being funny as hell, if anyone remembers that'd be cool.

Which rain/moisture setting to practice on for upcoming 6 hours glen?

This is probably a dumb question, but why not you know.
The upcoming Glen has a 45% chance of rain during my timeslot I'm driving, so I've been trying to practice with it raining due to me never racing in rain before.
Is "very heavy rain/heavy moisture" the best mode to put majority of my practice into? Or how does everyone else prepare for rain segments.
Ive been running nothing but "very heavy track moisture" the last few days, just not sure if thats the best use of my time.

Edit: I will say im confident in my dry lap time. I put alot of time doing dry laps as well, just lately been practicing wet due to weather report coming out.

Getting into special event Endurance Racing with friends has been an absolute blast

Just wanting to post about how fun endurance racing has been to get into with a group of like-wise passionate friends.
I'm actually very new to iRacing and getting back into simracing after a long-hiatus, but the last month or so, after completing the 4 hours of thruxton, we've barely been touching the typical daily ranked races and instead been preparing for the upcoming 6 hours of Glen, and 24 hours of Spa.
Its so nice not having to worry/care about the daily ebb and flow of my IR, and instead just being able to put sole focus on the upcoming "big-day" as we compare/compete lap-times, share strategies, knowledge, and other things we learn about the track/car/racecraft.

Especially getting into strategy, as its been forcing me to learn more about tire management, fuel saving, and pit stop strategy in addition to learning more about car-setups.

But yeah, thats all. Fun stuff and I highly recommend it if you can find a group to regularly participate in the monthly events. Its a fun use of time to have something to "look forward to".

Any good discord servers for the upcoming 6 hours of Watkins Glen?

Heyo!
New to iracing, but me and 2 other friends are wanting to prepare for the upcoming 6 hours of Watkins Glen in one of the GT3 cars.

We participated in the 4 hours of Thruxton the other day and there was a good "TCR" discord centered around the car that made for good discussion on the race and car to help us prepare.

I was wondering if there is an equivelant hub to discuss likewise things for either/both GT3/6 Hours Glen as well.

Any "good to knows" for 4 hours of Thruxton? First endurance race, new to sims

Basically the title!
I am new to sim racing but plan to get my friend together with me to ride out the 4 hours of thruxton next week.
Never really have done a long race such as this before, but heavily interested.

Not exactly asking for speed tips, tips at certain turns, moreso than "good to knows" in doing my first endurance race. Especially wondering if theres anything thats needed to be known thats inherent to the simulation level of iracing. Such as car wear over time that might be good to know about or other unexpected things.

Preparing for the brightness of a theatre projector?

Heyo! So honestly I am asking on behalf of my friend who uses Davinci ( I do not video edit).
Our city has been running infrequent independent movie nights where anyone can make a short-film and have it displayed through the projector of our small movie theatre. However my friend sounded frustrated at the fact that the movie looked fine on his laptop screen, but too dark/dim on the theatres projector in certain night parts of his film.

Is there any possible way to ensure your brightness will translate well to a theatre projector, or is it forced to be a gamble you can not account for?

Just curious if this is actually something that can be done.
