how much dev resource does composable commerce need?

Starting to look seriously at composable after hitting the usual Shopify Plus ceiling on multi-brand management, but can't get past the dev overhead question.

From what I've found, composable architecture examples all assume a 30+ dev team and at least a year of migration runway, which at our current headcount isn't realistic, but the newer platforms seem to have closed that gap compared to early commercetools setups.

And I've seen threads here mention SCAYLE (built by the About You team apparently) and Elastic Path as options better suited to retailers who don't want to build a dedicated platform engineering function.

Can't tell yet whether composable is viable below €100M GMV with a small-to-mid dev team, or whether the answer is to max out semi-headless Shopify Plus and revisit once the tooling matures, so what determined the call for yours?

Update to my "got lean and doubled my ApoB" post: I took your advice and finally got the CAC scan

Throwaway account: Update because the last thread genuinely got to me, and a lot of you took the time to weigh in. The blunt version of the comments was that I'd loaded up on saturated fat without clocking it, butter in everything, fatty cuts, coconut oil, and that I should stop obsessing over the carbs and just fix the fat. Fair enough.

So since then I've actually changed things. Pulled the saturated fat right down, swapped the butter and coconut oil for olive oil and avocado, went back to leaner cuts and oily fish, and properly leaned into soluble fibre which I'd been ignoring completely, oats, psyllium before meals, beans and lentils back on the plate. Kept training the same. It's only been a week and a half though, so I'm not going to pretend my bloods have changed yet. That retest is booked for the 12 week mark, through the same Lucis panel I used before so it's comparable.

The thing I moved on straight away, because a few of you pushed it hard, was book a CAC scan instead of arguing about numbers online. It came back at 4. Not nothing at my age, but low enough that I could stop catastrophising and actually sleep, and it turned the whole thing from panic into a plan. I've since seen my doctor and we're talking about a low dose statin to bring the ApoB down faster given the family history, rather than betting everything on the diet.

Mostly posting because the last thread changed what I did in real life. The mirror had me convinced I was fine, and it took a load of strangers pointing straight at the saturated fat for it to land. I'll do a proper numbers update once the 12 week retest is back. Cheers for the reality check.

Anyone relate to this ?

Lets say i did a post here to find a partner.

Then a girl or two or x girl dmed me.

Isn't it weird to talk to them at once try to see who could be a match.

I dont know, I just find it weird, especially for men or women asking for marriage.

Then they would need to respond to the DMs

Its consuming and for me I need to have the mind of an octopus to do that.

Like I'm not sure if you feel me or its just me. But i prefer talking to people one by one. So at least im talking to that person and being available and give it the full chance and if it didn't work then go to the next one.

What building an AI interviewer taught me about the rest of the market

Launched Synmatch last week so i'm putting some of this into words for the first time, because one thing about how the market is built has been bothering me since we started.

Every AI recruiter we tested while building this scores candidates on typed answers in an unsupervised chat, so there's no way to know if what you're reading is what the candidate thought or what they drafted with help they didn't mention.

And the weird thing is that this was the exact problem AI interviews were supposed to solve, because CVs had already become performances you could tune with the right keywords and everyone in the industry knew it, and the AI layer was supposed to get underneath that.

Except most of us just built a slightly more articulate chat interface for the same self-report problem.

with synmatch we made the interview a recorded voice call reviewed by a human, which was a deliberate call against the chat-input format everyone else was using, and it's how we catch things that format structurally misses, like a second voice audible in the background or a speaking style that doesn't match the CV vocabulary.

We're at around 400 interviews a month and 90% of candidates finish, which we didn't predict, and the 4.4 out of 5 satisfaction came mostly from candidates saying they liked knowing they were being assessed on the record, because being on the record made them take it more seriously, and we hadn't planned for that.

I cold-emailed a man who'd been dead for over a year and his wife wrote back

I do cold outbound for a living and i've always been a little proud of how clean i keep it, meaning tight lists and solid data, a setup i'd have called professional right up until last week.

Then last week one of my emails bounced back with a reply from a woman telling me her husband had passed away over a year ago and asking me to kindly take his address off whatever list i pulled it from.

I'd sent that man some version of (hey, hope you're doing well…) probably 4 or 5 times across different campaigns, all of them cheerful little check-ins, and he'd been gone the whole time.

So his wife was the one opening them, watching his name come up in her inbox with my chirpy subject line next to it.

And all that clean data i was proud of never once made me see these people as real, they were rows, addresses to push through FullEnrich or Apollo and move on from, and it took a dead man's wife asking me to stop for it to land that every name on every list is a person with a whole life i know nothing about.

So i don't really know how to keep doing this job now.

How do you translate your videos into English without re-recording, on a budget?

So I make videos in French and I want to reach English speakers too without turning it into a second full-time job or spending a fortune. Re-filming in English isn't happening, my spoken English is fine but not on-camera fine.

I've spent the week comparing options and I'm still stuck. The cheapest route is auto-captions (CapCut does them free) but people scroll past subtitled talking-head videos. Then there's the AI stuff, Veed and Rask can translate and even lip-sync, and Argil lets you regenerate the whole thing as your own avatar speaking English. The proper studio dubbing services look great but the per-video price is more than I make on the video, so those are out.

For anyone who's taken content across languages on a small budget, what did you land on, and did it keep your audience or did it feel fake to them?

best woocommerce alternative for a large fashion catalog?

Woo has carried us from launch to a few thousand SKUs, but the seams are showing.

Catalog size is where it breaks down, filtering and search crawl once we cross a certain product count, and the plugin stack we've bolted on for variants and multi-currency is one update away from taking the site down.

Fashion makes it worse, because every product has size and color permutations that balloon the variant count.

If you've migrated off Woo with a big catalog, where did you land, and was it worth the pain?

We have it down to commercetools and SCAYLE for the catalog and multi-market side, though that's mostly on other teams' word so far, so I'd rather hear unfiltered migration stories than take another sales call.

The variant explosion is my real worry, so how it holds up under a big fashion catalog is what matters most.

Which iron supplement is actually gentle on the stomach? standard sulfate is unusable for me

Right, I need help because I've now got a small pharmacy of iron on my shelf and I'm more lost than when I started. Low ferritin, and the standard ferrous sulfate my GP gave me (Ferrograd) turns my stomach inside out, nausea and cramps by day 3, so I never last long enough for it to do anything.

So I went looking for a gentler one and somehow made it worse. I've now got Solgar's Gentle Iron, a bottle of Floradix, a NOW and Nutrimea bisglycinate, and the Spatone sachets someone at work swore by, all sitting in the cupboard. Half are bisglycinate, one's a liquid, the Floradix is some herbal iron tonic thing, and I can't tell if the "gentle" part is real or if I'm just paying extra for the word on the label.

The thing no one agrees on is whether the gentle ones absorb enough to move your ferritin, or whether they feel gentle because there's barely any usable iron in them in the first place.

So before I start swallowing random ones, has anyone got their ferritin up on one of the gentle forms without their stomach hating them, or does everyone end up back on sulfate or getting an infusion? Which of these would you even start with.

how do you keep a next.js storefront up during a flash drop?

Building the storefront for a streetwear sub-brand inside a bigger fashion group, with Next.js on the front (App Router) and a headless commerce backend behind it.

The traffic shape is what's wrecking my rendering plan, since we run 4 to 6 drops a year and each one spikes to around 40k concurrent the second it opens before selling out in about 15 minutes.

Normal days are quiet, so the whole build is designed around a handful of 15-minute windows.

The Next.js side is eating most of my time, starting with the product pages, which are ISR while inventory moves every second during a drop.

On-demand revalidation at that write rate either serves stale stock or melts the backend, which is pushing me toward keeping the page static and pulling the live stock number client-side.

From there it's the edge-middleware waiting room so we don't dump 40k people into checkout at once, then checkout itself, where cart and inventory have to stay consistent while the API throttles and the frontend still has to fail softly.

That last part is what's pulling the backend decision into it, and it's down to SCAYLE or commercetools for the composable route.

With commercetools we'd wire more of it together ourselves, whereas SCAYLE comes more assembled out of the box, and either way a custom SNKRS-style build is out because we don't have the headcount.

So if you've run a Next.js front over a headless backend through a real drop, I want to know what broke first and whether the fix landed on the frontend or the backend.

do we need swiss AHV registration for one remote hire in zurich?

One of our senior data engineers is moving to Zurich in September and my inbox is now full of swiss-specific questions i've never dealt with before.

She's staying on our payroll but the swiss tax authority will care about her physical presence there, not our headquarters in london.

My working assumption was that we'd route her through an EOR so we don't have to open an AG entity for a single hire, though the wrinkle is that swiss AHV (the state old-age insurance) needs to be registered against a specific employer.

And it's not obvious to me whether the EOR handles that registration directly, or whether the AHV registration follows the work relationship and gets flagged as us dodging the entity requirement.

We're on Workmotion for our current EU hires, moved over from Deel earlier this year for reasons unrelated to switzerland, and their swiss coverage looked promising in the pre-sales though the initial conversation didn't get into the compensation office (AHV Ausgleichskasse) registration details i'm now wondering about.

The sub-question underneath is around AHV specifically, so for anyone who's hired one remote swiss employee through an EOR without a swiss entity, has the AHV registration ever been the thing that got questioned?

And if you've paid pillar 2 (BVG) contributions through an EOR arrangement, did the pension provider ever push back on the client-employer setup?

zurich or zug matters for cantonal tax but not for AHV as far as i can tell, and want to double-check that too before we move.

Is berberine actually worth it for blood sugar and weight, or is it overhyped?

I keep seeing berberine pushed as some kind of natural Ozempic and I'm skeptical by default, but my last bloodwork had my fasting glucose creeping up (still in range, just higher than I'd like), so I figured I'd look into it properly.

From what I can tell the research is a mixed bag, some decent studies on glucose and a modest effect on weight, but a lot of the online hype runs way ahead of what's been shown. I picked up a French brand (Nutrimea) to try for a couple of months alongside cleaning up my diet, taking it before meals.

For those who've run it a while, did it do anything measurable on your glucose or weight?

[M30] Support Engineer seeking a lavender marriage open to relocating to Europe

Hi all,

I'm 30, male, based outside Europe, working as a Support Engineer (remote-friendly field, tech background). I'm stable, easygoing, and have never had reason to consider moving abroad until recently , now I'm genuinely open to it.

I'm looking for a lavender marriage arrangement with a European woman. A bit about what I'm after:

Mutual respect and clear boundaries, this is a partnership, not a romantic pretense

Someone open to discussing logistics, expectations, and what each of us needs from the arrangement

I'm flexible on country/region within Europe

A bit about me: reliable, direct communicator, working professional, easy to talk to. Happy to answer questions openly before anything moves forward.

If this resonates or you have questions, feel free to DM me — happy to chat and see if we're a good fit.

Not all guys are the same

Through my communication with girls I always hear that all guys are the same.

Well, I wanted to share this story.

I did know a prostitute. And when she shared her story with me I did relate to it in 2 points, she doesn't have a Diploma and she is stuck in the prostitution cycle.

I did tell her that me too I have no diploma but I was able to land a good job after I did study some stuff and that I was stuck in a call center for 5 years and I was able to get out of it

I don't compare her situation with mine, just mentioned to her how I did feel her.

She speaks modest english and then I did tell her about reddit and tried to explain to her that meanwhile she can try what she does online and offline it's very risky for her.

So i helped her make an account and I suggested to her to do a post.

When she did, out of our surprise, a beautiful girl did help her without even asking for details and even her profile was anonymous so it could be anyone.

Also 2 other guys did help her without asking anything in return and started to tell her about options she can do especially her father has dyalise and she needs to send him money every month to help him with expenses.

It was really amazing for me to see that some guys are really beautiful and they just helped her

Other guys for sure asked for something in return which was fine as she did mention in her post that she can do stuff in return.

Well not all guys are the same
