Big Bend is in danger.
Big Bend National Park in Texas is protected public lands but the protections have been waived.
Big Bend is located in the largest dark sky region in the entirety of the lower United States.
It is home to over 1,200 plant species, 450 bird species, and rare wildlife like the Mexican black bear. The ecosystem is very fragile because it features a delicate, slow-recovering Chihuahuan Desert ecosystem. Human history in the region spans at least 13,000 years, featuring fragile and rare prehistoric resources like hearths, earth ovens, and petroforms with high structural and historical integrity.
I’ve created these banners, feel free to share, to educate about the park. And the travesty is that is currently happening.
I’ve included photos of the beginning of the devastation and a photo of light pollution levels (it’s that dark spot on Texas).
