Preppy sneakers that are thick, comfortable, and walkable? (Read description)

Ok so… I’m trying to dress a little more preppy, and the last thing I need to figure out is my shoes.

The problem is that one of my feet has an issue that makes walking sometimes a bit painful, so I need shoes that are thick, soft, and honestly kind of chunky. The more cushioning the better, especially around the sole and sides. Think New Balance 574 (my current shoes).

Unfortunately, that seems to rule out most classic preppy shoes. Loafers, boat shoes, canvas sneakers, and similar styles are all pretty low-profile and don’t have the support or padding I need.
Are there any shoes that still fit a preppy style while meeting those comfort requirements, or am I basically screwed when it comes to footwear? Thanks.

TLDR: Need thick comfy sneakers, but would like them to be a bit preppy.

Eve smart plug still worth it now that Ikea Grillplats is available?

Regarding matter over thread smart plugs, is the Eve plug still worth the higher price now that the much cheaper Grillplats is available? I’m interested in hearing about people’s experiences with both and what, if anything, justifies the price difference. Thanks!

Any completely silent smart plugs that don’t make a clicking sound?

Just a smart plug that doesn’t click. I believe these are called solid state relays? Amazon Alexa ai is claiming to me that meross smart plugs use SSR and is completely silent, but I’m not sure if it’s just hallucinating that detail or not. Does anyone know of any smart plugs like this? Thanks.

Why does my Tapo smart plug (labeled Fan) always have this orange warning triangle right when pulling down control center?

This happens whenever I pull down control center or open the home app after haven’t opening it for a while. It does this orange triangle thing for 4 seconds and I can’t control it until it finally connects. It’s getting really annoying. Is it a cloud thing? My random cheap smart plug before this always connected instantly; there was never an orange triangle. Please tell me how to fix this otherwise I’m going to return it.

Why does my tapo smart plug take a few second delay to connect to HomeKit?

The smart plug is labeled Bedroom Fan and is on the bottom of the control center. Why is there always a several second delay before connecting? Cannot turn it on or off until it connects. Conversely, my cheap random Chinese smart plug always connected instantly and never had this delay.

And are there any suggestions for a smart plug that doesn’t have this connection delay (preferably works without a hub)? Thanks.

What color should no-show socks theoretically be?

Before you tell me what a dumb question this is, here's some context: I have a foot problem in which one of my heels stick up a bit (can't go totally flat on ground). Thus, even when wearing no-show socks with my sneakers during the summer, one sock will always slightly peek above the shoe. My question is what's the best color to hide it? Should it match the color of your shoe or the color of your skin?

Wearing a dress shirt like a casual shirt?

I try not to buy new clothes when I’ve got old ones I can repurpose. I found an old white dress shirt of my dad’s, and when I tried it on, I thought it fit pretty well (at least better than some others I own). Do you think it’d work as a casual piece, styled something like this? It runs a little long, but I think I could just hem it. Let me know your thoughts, and open to any other feedback too. Thanks!

who’s in charge of the UI design of the ChatGPT mobile app?

Constant and frequent changes to the button placement and menu screens. Sometimes they change something about the layout that makes it objectively worse, only to change it back to the original way a couple months later. Like what are they doing?

Stainless steel Timex T80 with brown canvas strap

Although I prefer analog watches because of aesthetics, I find myself wearing digital watches more often because they’re easier to read the time at a quick glance. This time I decided to get a higher quality stainless steel one with a nice strap.

Are these black line marks permanent?

I got my chambray shirt hemmed but I see these black lines where the original stitching used to be. What are they and I’m assuming they’re permanent?

Straight hem or preserve the scallop shape when shortening shirts for untucked wear?

Thinking of taking my chambray and OCBD shirts to a tailor to shorten them for wearing untucked. But I’m getting mixed advice on Reddit; some people are saying traditionally only straight hem shirts could be worn untucked while other people are saying make sure the tailor preserved the original scallop shape. Which should I do? I’m leaning toward straight, but will that look wrong on these shirt types? Thanks.

Here’s an example of a shirt that I have.

Do I need to add side vents when hemming a straight edge shirt?

I have an Oxford button down shirt I’d like to hem to be an untucked straight edge. But a lot of straight-edge hemmed shirts I see have side vents, or splits, on either side. Would it be weird if I didn’t include these? Are they optional as long as the fit is good? They just seem hard to make is all.

Is anyone else getting messages from ChatGPT saying the image you’ve tried to generate may have to do with s**cide or self harm?

It’s suddenly telling me this now even though the images I ask for have absolutely nothing to do with any of that.

Is a simple straight stitch enough to take in pants inseam?

I’m interested in taking in the inseams of my chinos. It seems like a straightforward alteration since the inseam uses a plain seam rather than a flat-felled seam. However, I noticed that the stitching doesn’t appear to be a standard straight stitch. Not sure what it is but it resembles a chain stitch on one side. Is there a reason this stitching is used on pant inseams, or would a regular straight stitch work just as well? Durability is my main concern. Thanks.

The first image shows one side of the pre-existing seam, and the second image shows the other side.

I'm gonna quit applying to instructional designer jobs

It might be my fault or a gap in my skills, I honestly don't know. But I'm an entry-level Instructional Designer with a couple years of experience, and I haven't been able to land a job lasting more than a month and a half (only one contract job) since I was laid off three years ago. Time and again, interviewers cut things short and jump straight to "do you have any questions?" And of course, no one's going to tell me why.

I always research how to do better in interviews: practicing likely questions, walking through my design process. But between these interview patterns and how wildly different the skills/tools requirements are from company to company, I'm starting to think this field is just too inconsistent or niche for someone at my level to break back into.

After another interview where it was cut short, I think I'm done. Since no one in this field wants to hire me, I'm going to try to move on into something else...

Uneven stitches immediately after thick seam

I’ve tried thread tensions from 4 to 6 and used a hump jumper (and yes I’m using a denim needle), but I’m getting the same result. When sewing over a thicker denim seam, the bobbin thread starts showing on the top side immediately after the presser foot comes off the seam.

It seems like the top thread doesn’t take up slack right away. As the needle drops back down to the lower fabric level after the thick seam, the top thread stays relatively straight for a few stitches instead of following the sudden change in height, which lets the bobbin thread pull through.

Has anyone run into this before or have suggestions on what might be causing it?

Trying to understand the watchOS 27 Siri AI compatibility

I have an SE 3 and an iPhone 16 Pro and I'm wondering — does the SE 3 actually support the new Siri AI features, or is that limited to Series 10 and newer? I've seen conflicting info where some sources say the SE 3 supports watchOS 27, but others suggest Apple Intelligence features are only on Series 10+. Can anyone clarify what Siri AI functionality (if any) the SE 3 actually gets?
